| "Wait," said Lucas, "I can hear his heart still beating." Adam suddenly coughed, starting to breath again. "There." Said Joshua. "What did I tell you?" |
| "We have to get out of here." Said Josef. "You're not going anywhere." |
| Lucas picked up Adam, who was still unconscious. "Come on, I've got a theory and I'm gonna test it." |
| Lucas ran back down the stairs, careful to avoid the party to not cause any panic. Josef followed and Joshua didn't bother to stop him. |
| "If I remember correctly, there's a back door." Lucas said, heading down the hallway. "I'm thinking there isn't much truth in this 'seal' thing." |
| They came to the back door in a few minutes. Josef was the one who opened it. "I don't see anything." "You wouldn't." Said Lucas. "It would be invisible but...'' he stuck his hand out the doorway; nothing blocked him. "Joshua probably fed that lie to Adam to scare us." |
| "Yeah well, he was never one to think things through." Lucas said, glancing at Adam; he seemed stable, his breathing only wavering slightly. "I know you guys won't like it, but it'll probably be safest to take him to Alistair's house. It would be the last place Joshua would want to set foot in." |
| "Okay, follow me." Said Lucas. [Move to Alistair's house.] |
| Adam arrived at the house to find the back door was unlocked. He knew his father would most likely be at work, so he entered the house, quickly making his way upstairs to the bathroom in his father's room, where he knew Joshua had kept his anxiety medication. Sure enough, in a cabinet in the bathroom was the bottle of the liquid, which should have been colourless but was instead tinted almost a pinkish red. 'From the demon blood.' Adam thought. |
| Lucas came up to the house and seeing that Adam had left the door open, he knew he had been correct. Adam took out one of the bottles; although he knew it wasn't right, he hadn't ever felt like he did before in his life and he at least wanted something to stop him from freaking out. He took out the needle that lay beside the bottles in the cabinet, and withdrew a small amount of the liquid from the bottle; he'd seen his father do enough times to know how. |
| "Come on, we have to find him." Said Lucas. "The fact his house is this huge will only make it harder." Adam held the needle firmly in his hand and injected the liquid into his arm, where countless other doses like it had gone before. He took out the needle and laid it on the counter, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. For a second, he felt nothing, but then, to his surprise, an odd sensation started to run through his body that quickly turned to burning. He double over over top of the sink accidentally knocked the needle onto the ground and smashing it. When he opened his eyes again, they were all black. |
| "It sounded like it came from upstairs." Lucas said, heading towards the large staircase. He couldn't help but remembering that only the night before he Gwen and Josef reached the top of them just to see Adam being shot. |
| "There are too many rooms up here." Lucas said. "Damn. Okay, how about we split up and search?" |
| "Okay." Lucas headed off to the right, towards where Adam's bedroom was. |
| Adam heard her approaching, but he seemed to be frozen, the burning sensation so intense he could barely move. |
| "Coming!" Lucas' voice came from the hallway. |
| "I didn't mean...it...was supposed to make me feel better..." Adam trailed and his hand slipped, causing him to fall. |
| Lucas rushed into the bathroom. "Holy-what happened?!" Adam looked up at Lucas, his eyes still black. "S-sorry." He stammered. Lucas saw the shattered needle on the ground. "Why did you take that shit?! You know what's in it now! Are you stupid?!" |
| "Ugh, this is crazy." Lucas said. "Are you suicidal or what?" "N-no. It just...I only wanted to feel better." "By taking that? What a joke." |
| "Better? Look what it did to him." |
| "Whatever; we can argue about this once we're out of here." Said Lucas. He looked at Adam. "Can you stand?" Adam nodded and slowly got to his feet. |
| They started back out of the bathroom and down the stairs. |
| As they came around to the back door, Lucas started to head out, only when he reached the doorway he suddenly stopped. "What the...?" He trailed. He put his hand up in the doorway, only when he tried to extend it, it was as if some invisible force held him back. "Oh you've got to be kidding." Adam said. |
| "Are we seriously trapped here?" Lucas said. "God damn it." |
| "The hell if I know." Lucas replied, annoyed. "I'm at a loss. As you may have gathered, my dad's not in the habit of telling me things." |
