| "I've got nothing on Adam for lack of subtly." Lucas said flatly. "But he's always been like that. Not quite so badly, but..." Adam went back upstairs away from the party. Joshua was there waiting for him. "I did just what you asked me to." Adam said to him. "I'm sorry. I couldn't kill him." "What? Why not?" "He's my family dad." "Not anymore he isn't." "Besides," Adam continued. "What's happening to me? You said it wouldn't affect me that much, that I'd still be human, but they noticed." |
| "I did grow up with it." Josef said good naturedly, glancing at Lucas. "This is not the time to change the subject, Adam." Said Joshua. Adam scowled. "I don't care. I want to know exactly what it is you did to me." "I can't tell you." "Why not?" "Because it's not your place to know." |

| "All right, enough with the pleasant reunion talk stuff." Said Lucas. "We have to figure out a way to get out of here. Alive preferably." "Agreed." |
| "Adam seems to know what's going on. And he gets all the word from Joshua, no doubt." "What's your point?" Asked Josef. "My point is; this is Joshua's study, isn't it? Wouldn't he keep his information in here?" "Not my place to know? What do you mean? You did it to me! I have a right to know!" "Not right now you don't." Said Joshua. "But--" "No 'buts' Adam." |
| Lucas went over to the desk. "Yeah well obviously when he locked up his desk he didn't get a vampire proof safe guard." He grabbed the topmost drawer, yanking it. The lock busted and the drawer opened. |
| Just then there was a small hiss from within the drawer, like escaping gas, and something exploded in Lucas' face, showering him with some kind of liquid. "What the?!" He exclaimed. "What is this? Not vervain surely, or I'd be burning right now..." |
| "It's just water." Said Josef, confused. "That's weird. Why would Joshua made a water bomb to protect his information? If he was scared of vampires getting ahold of it wouldnt he use vervain?" "Beats me. Looks like uncle Josh just keeps getting weirder." |
| "Anyway, at least we know there's something important in here." Lucas said, starting to leaf around in the drawer. |
| Seconds later, Lucas pulled out what looked like a notebook. "Looks like uncle Josh kept a diary." He said. |
| Lucas flipped through the journal to an entry just over two years before. "This is the date my parents filed a missing person's report on me." He said. "Joshua seemed pretty upset about it at first it looks like..." |
| "Like he didn't have any suspicions about me at first. He thought I'd just run away; he knew our father was a bastard and he figured I just wanted some time away from the drama." |
| Lucas flipped forward a few pages, scanning the text. He stopped when he reached a certain date a couple months later. "This is the day our parents told him about you Josef." He said quietly. |
| "He said: today my sister confirmed one of my greatest fears; the spread of this supernatural plague has reached even my closest family members. I am not sure entirely what I'm going to do from here but I know that no one is safe, not even my own son. I cannot allow anything to befall the rest of my family and to prevent any further tragedy I have to take action. The only way to fight a devil is with another devil and that is what I'm going to have to do." Lucas paused. "Fight a devil with another devil? What on earth does he mean by that?" |
| "But...Adam's his son. What kind of freak would do that to his own family?" |
| "That's awful." Said Josef. "But then...if Adam's not human, he can't get out of here either..." "I can't believe you're withholding this kind of stuff from me." Adam said, frowning. "I'm sorry Adam." Said Joshua. "I know this is hard for you but I still need to ask one more thing of you." Adam paused for a second. "What?" "You need to die." |
| "Apparently that's just how this stuff works." Said Lucas. "What?!" Adam exclaimed, shocked. "I know it seems crazy." "Crazy?! Is that all you have to say?!" Adam shouted. "Are you insane?!" |
| Joshua took a step forward. "Adam-" "No, stop. Don't even come near me!" Josef stiffened. "Did you hear that?" "What?" Said Lucas. "It sounded like shouting. Upstairs." |
| "Let's go." Said Josef. "Agreed." "Adam, do you want to kill those vampires?" "W-what?! What does that have to do with anything?!" |
| Josef and Lucas pushed through the crowd, running upstairs. "I can't tell you. But you need to trust me." "No!" Adam exclaimed. "You want to kill me, why would I trust you?!" |
| "You won't understand me right now, but you will later." Joshua said. He put a hand in his pocket, as if reaching to pull something out. Meanwhile Lucas and Josef had almost made it to the top of the stairs. |

| Joshua pulled a small pistol from his pocket. Adam's eyes widened and he was about to turn to run but Joshua fired. Lucas reached the top of the stairs just in time to catch Adam as he fell. "No!" Josef shouted. "What did you do?!" |
| Lucas knelt to the ground, resting Adam's head on his lap. "Adam, stay with me here, come on." Adam's eyes flickered closed. "No, no, come on." |
| "Oh no, he's not breathing." Lucas said hurriedly. "He's not...oh god...he's...dead." "Not for long." Said Joshua steadily. |
| "Never you mind. You'll find out soon enough." Joshua replied. |
| "The kind that wants to protect the rest of his family." |
