I really want to know.
I don't really care if its freeware or you have to go to an electronic store to buy it.

I just need to know what is used to make AMVs

depends on the type of PC you use, if you have Windows you can use Windows Movie Maker that comes installed on the computer. other then that don't know.

I never made an amv myself, but most of my amvmaker friends use these:

VirtualDubMod - for cutting out scenes
Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier Pro - for making the video
and Adobe After Effects too

When i used to do kingdom hearts AMVS or w/e FMV's, used to use Windows movie maker, then later on, sony vegas ;D

Use wmm to start out, then move onto something more "professional" at a later stage (should you choose to do so)

Personally, when I try to make videos, I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio. Pro is good too though.
Best of luck~

You don't necessarily need virtualdubmod to cut scenes, from my point of view, i'd say that WMM or vegas (or its alternatives) are much simpler to obtain selected scenes from clips etc But, vd is a very usefull tool for some applications ;D

As I said, mine is just secondhand information, I'm not really sure, if my friends use VirtualDub anymore, but they did at first :)

As for WMM, one of my friends started out with that, and hated it like hell, cos it always froze on her, and she was the happiest person when she switched to Vegas :D

depends on the version of WMM as long as you don't get early versions that suck anyways shouldn't be a problem lol

While I personally have never ever made an AMV I have edited and made videos of other kind.

Like others have mentioned Sony Vegas Pro is awesome for this. I myself use Sony Vegas Pro 8.0, and I love it!

A video editing software is all you need. You can use the free windows movie maker or other more complete software like vegas, premiere, cyberlink, etc etc.

I stopped making AMVs, but I used to use Sony Vegas.
Not a bad software. More flexible than Windows Movie Maker, but Sony Vegas can take longer to learn how to use.
