Its not neccesary, but a shiny coat of paint would be great.
I think it should age a bit longer though.

This is my same opinion for Monster as well. Already a great work, that doesn't need a remake, but would look nice, and bring in a new wave of modern popularity(although, deathnote is still very popular)

No.
No need to give out more pointless project when original still is so good.

Absolutely—if they ever remake Death Note, the soundtrack would be just as crucial as the visuals and pacing. The original OST gave so much weight to the tension and moral battles, so a modern version would need equally powerful, atmospheric tracks to elevate the story. Imagine sharper animation, tighter pacing, deeper Shinigami lore, and a haunting new score tying it all together—that could make the remake feel both fresh and worthy of the original’s legacy.

Fuck NO! Deatch Note is a masterpiece writing-wise and it's animation is visually stunning

I'm already torturing myself enough watching Winx and Cat's Eye get completely and utterly destroyed in both departments by their remakes thank you very much

If anything adapt the light novels so we get some new content

It really doesn't need one. The adaptation has issues, but it's still an incredibly solid work by it's own right.

Also, I hate this mentality of "enough time has passed, it needs a remake". So would you say any show that is a few decades old needs to be redone?

Death Note is great and doesn't need remakes that make it worse; it's perfect as it is, in my opinion. Plus, knowing what a terrible film Netflix made, it's better not to touch this anime.

Only thing a remake can do is to make a carbon copy of the first half of the death note anime and then on the second half fully adapt the manga, unlike the madhouse anime.

The only flaw of the madhouse anime is that the second half doesnt get the same care put into it like it did on the first half bcs it cuts and rushes content from the manga. A remake qould be a chance at doing that. Maybe even add some insignificant pannels of the first half not adapted into the anime, but the key point for a remake is to fix the second half.

The madhouse anime made the first half really great and the second half still pretry good but it could be even better with more manga content, less rush. It would also be a chance to adapt the manga ending too. The problem is that the madhouse anime has the charming ost and a lot of what was done on it is iconic and very well made, from all the people that worked on it. So what the solution would be? to copy? I would to see what the second half would be like in a remake but it would be a lot of work with not much incentive for the ones making it bcs the death note anime madhouse made still feels great and is great, a masterpiece as you put it.

An anime that needs a remake and following the manga is gantz. Gantz has the potential to be a masterpiece in the anime medium with great animation and care out into it

Yes, I often say that a remake would be fabulous after the Japanese TV drama Death Note and the Japanese musical Death Note.

i doubt they would match the old directing and soundtrack, anyway the show although from 2007 is already widescreen and HD, the only real reason to remake would be just for the ending

Wait hold on here, a remake isn't necessary it was made by the best anime studio at the time Madhouse who then went on to make MAPPA which is like currently the best anime studio. And Death Note still holds up basically flawless to this day there isn't any way they improve it, remakes absolutely don't make any sense unless the original becomes outdated or is very flawed and needs to be remade. Like there's a higher waiting list for other anime which could've actually been remade instead

Death Note is a masterpiece, but it’s also almost 20 years old now. The animation still holds up, but imagine a modern remake with today’s production quality, pacing, and maybe even some expanded storytelling. They could fix some of the rushed pacing in the second half, flesh out the worldbuilding around the Shinigami realm, and maybe even explore more moral complexity between Light and L. Would you be down for that, or do you think Death Note should be left untouched?

again...............

It would be interesting. But I'm afraid they would mess it up and end up being bad. I would still watch it though.

Agreed. I saw the thread title and immediately went "Please no!"... I'm tired of the endless remakes when so many of them are subpar. It's not like it undoes the original but it feels so unnecessary. I think I'd rather see new stories.

I'm not big fan of remakes.

I mean anime/manga was good, the first live action movie was good.

After all these Jdorama and Netflix versions I would just let Death Note rest in piece and leave untouched for now.

I will never understand this idiotic wish for culture to be stuck in a loop as the same territory is retread over and over again, as if originality was a crime. Death Note is done and has an objectively good adaptation, get over it.

People want to consume the same things endlessly with only minor changes, without any respect for the art. I guess that's the exact same mentality that makes people listen to sped-up/slowed-down edits of the same three songs. I swear, the forums are full of braindead threads like this---made by ten year olds, or adults with the intelligence of ten year olds. I'm not sure which is worse.

I went on OP's profile and it's full of hentai and Mushoku Tensei. This is the type of person we're dealing with, and the type of person the forums are full of now, lol.

As cool as a remake would be, honestly I don't think that it's needed. The original death note in my opinion is perfect and doesn't need a remake. I fear it would only taint the name of death note as it could become a shit reamke.

It would be interesting to see how Death Note would work in, say, 2025, given the advancements in technology, increased conflicts, and heightened surveillance since the timeline Death Note takes place in and was written in which already had those elements used to further the stakes in how Light used the Death Note and how investigators went about trying to find who Kira was.
