Synopsis

Yukito's father is the leader of a cult and sacrifices him under the pretense that their god Mitama will save him and strengthen him to become the leader of their new cult. Yukito feels his entire life has been ruined by the cult and begrudgingly accepts the end of his life. Little does he know that he will be reincarnated into a fantasy world. There he befriends a group of villagers who are outcasts because they refuse to accept their nations practice of suicide upon request. Little more does he know that Mitama is actually real and can be summoned to protect him as well as demand his allegiance

Episode 1

Quite a painful way to start out for Yukito there.  He's born to a religious zealot and he's thrown into sea as a sacrifice.  Then he's reincarnated in a place where the notion of God is like Greek to them.  At least he was raised by a caring family, but they get executed, and with Yukito in peak despair mode, a god descends.  It was an alright start there, but the production values are less than stellar, alwhile things were just happening too fast and a good amount of it I just don't really care about.

I actually read the first few chapters of this manga a few years ago. I am not even sure how I stumbled upon it, but I read basically up to about the point where this episode ends, maybe a tad further. I thought it was pretty stupid at the time. I am not sure I have changed my mind. I think I might have wondered about it because supposedly pornographic drawings were part of the plot.

I don't think this episode exactly explained very well that pornography in this world looks like it was drawn by a small child....and I didn't read far enough into the manga to figure out why that was important.

The concept and tone of the show remind me of Plunderer, which in turn reminds me a bit of the Michael York movie Logan's Run (althought Logan's Run was more serious)

Oh yeah, I don't remember the strange beast thing either, but in this episode the CGI was so bad and it looked so out of place, it reminds me of the beast in Monty Python and the Holy Grail

What in f**k’s name did I just watch?? Lol.

I don't know about y'all but I laughed a couple of times from this episode.

Also why is the animation pretty crisp while having some of the worst CGI monsters I’ve ever seen? Maybe it's just me but that god awful CGI made this episode funnier.

Started silly, got plain (boring), then got dark and ended up silly again.  CGI was execrable. Regular artwork was good. VAs good (Not fond of Mitama's voice, but it was supposed to be juvenile). Soundtrack was good.  I put this on amber alert depending on how it plays out.

I heard Kana Hanazawa's voice and thought, no way this can be bad...then I remembered she was in Fruit of Evolution...

I don't really know what to think so far. The goddess didn't show up until the end, so I'll need at least one more episode to decide whether to stick with it or not. There could be an interesting plot about trying to fix the society's habit of killing people off. There could also be a plot concerning the goddess' apparent habit of slaughtering all who oppose her...

No matter what else this show does I will give it credit for surprising me and trying to do some different things. Good job show.

So this was basically just an epilogue, at least I hope that's what I hope they were going for because if every episode is paced like this my head will explode. Definitely had some funny moments.

I think there were some good ideas here and some funny ideas, but not all of them were executed well. It certainly has me wanting to watch more just to see what the heck else it might throw at us.

The tonal whiplash of this show is something else.

Death ->Happy normal life ->Dark -> Sexy Times -> Death -> Loli Goddess -> Cthulhu -> WTF? End.

Kind of weird how everyone knew how to end a life, but not begin one? No religion, but the SFW sketchbook is still forbidden. Didn't see any children either. There's no magic, yet people were still pulling reference books out of thin air to solve problems. Monsters were called generic "strange beasts" like they weren't given a history or background that would lend to a more descriptive name. And wine was unknown. This world has some serious gaps in its construct, like the goddess forgot to finish the job. Or could the lack of religion cause such a lack of development.

Uh, no, I totally meant epilogue. Because uh, well.... they changed the definition! Yeah that's what happened. They're changing the definition of everything these days. War is peace, love is hate, truth is lies, all that stuff. Yup... totally meant to do that.

The concept and tone of the show remind me of Plunderer, which in turn reminds me a bit of the Michael York movie Logan's Run
With a bit of 2112 thrown in too.

Well that giant dome in the capital means we have the obvious "lost advanced civilization" trope going on here. So who knows how that could have affected things.

Episode 2

Lots of random jokes here as Mitama fits in with the family that was just brought back to life.  But one thing that stands out like a sore thumb is that CGI fox that's just an eye sore that has no place in a show with this animation style.  In any case, the whole god thing is starting to become a thing with this family.

They're really not doing as much with the concept as they could imo. Terry Pratchett did something similar in Small Gods and did it much better.

The dogshit CGI has to be intentional or some kind of meta comedy.

I hope so. They didn't even try to make it in the same style/render as the animation so it looks superimposed over the scene.

Episode 3

At least there's no CGI fox around, and the 8-bit animation parts are pretty funny.  This episode is all about Bertrand as he, or rather she after being revived as a woman, is having quite a tough time fitting in.  And of course, she's being taken advantage of as a woman.  Anyway, not much to care about.

Quite a lot of the show looks to me like an actual parody of something, but I'm not sure what... Most other isekai these days are set in generic fantasy worlds, and this one isn't. And it has a potentially interesting situation with an emperor who is handing out overpowered abilities and weapons to his enforcers, while requiring people to commit suicide on demand.

This show is one big purposeful shitpost and the staff knows it. I frikin love it. I’m trying to wrap my head around the absurdity of this show, it’s got top tier VA, the comedy is mostly on point, the animation gets pretty good in some parts and then you get sudden dogshit CGI and the hilarious live footage nonsense.

Oh I think Yuki Aoi voices Atar. And frikin Megumi Obata voices Clen/Loki.

Holy moly, so the author of Kamikatsu himself is the script writer of the anime and he more or less confirmed that all that terrible cgi and hilarious live action part was 100% intentional.
https://twitter.com/akashiro_aoi

I think he also mentioned that he wanted to take some of insanity from Konosuba and apply it to this show which... he has written script for few episodes of.

https://myanimelist.net/people/38383/Aoi_Akashiro

What's wild is that he is also the author for one of the Yuki Yuna is a Hero LN and also was a script writer for few episodes of the anime.

That just makes me love this show even more and I think I'm all in for the entire ride!

I saw the emperor thing coming when they just waltzed into the capital despite Mitama only having ~2000 followers, but still a big plot twist.

The timeline not so much of a twist, though a parallel Earth also would have made sense. Generally gods are depicted as being bound to a 'planet'.

Honestly, I'm still pretty much a new anime watcher so this show is the first of its kind for me. So, if nothing else, the novelty of it all keeps me coming back. The story's also somehow just enough to make me not bored, so there's that too - but maybe that also falls into the novelty side of things? Either way, I think I'll be sticking all the way through with this anime this season.

Welcome! Don't let us old fart anime watchers deter your enjoyment of any anime. If you like it; that's what is important. Sometimes we are so busy analyzing the show, we forget to just watch and enjoy it. Feel free to ask questions if you have any. We don't bite...much. :D
