giffica said:skeleton305 said:dude I’m so confused. I mean slam dunk is awesome but if you just look at manga sales it was bleach Naruto and one piece. Like one piece was top of shonin for like 20 years bro. What is this weird gatekeeping hierarchy you have come up with lol
If you look at manga sales, its Devilman, Dragonball, and Slam Dunk. Try again my friend.
I assure you im a shonen expert. I dont claim to know every genre, certainly not mecha or shojo, but shonen i know. These numbers are seared into my skull.
I'll also contend "big 3" is still about being a household name. We saw DB fans embarrass One Piece fans in front of the entie world this very week, so I dont need to rehash that, but i assure you in Japan Slam Dunk DWARFS literally every manga you can name, other than DB. Demon Slayer is a shadow of Slam. AND like I admitted DS is nearly that same tier. It's not slam lol The general japanese public began playing the sport of basketball. That didnt happen with demon slayer. Dudes aint acting like pirates, chill, be honest. More guys ninjarun than act like a pirate.
And again, Big 3 isnt just a manga term. It really refers to anime, as well, not just manga. Shonen JUMPS Big 3 in an era was OP, Naruto, Bleach. But that was hardly mangas big 3 forever. Astro Boy 70 years on dwarfs whatever any of the big 3 are doing. Akira is still regarded by the Japanese public and nearly every single mangaka as the pinnicle of manga, and was, at the time, and hasnt been not considered that in the 40 years since release. Anime side. Literal motorcycle sales happened because of Akira. Kanye Wests entire discography exists due to Akira. Matrix choose the pill moment, the most memorable scene in western movies in the last 20 years, comes directly from Akira (the rest is ghost in the shell). What you consider 'big 3' is highly suggestive of some ancillary argument that only exist for a few little kids.
Numbers always go up. Or wait, i guess BTS is the best Kpop band, right? No one ANYONE could be kore influential. Just cause the numbers. Right bruh lmao. The best selling philosopher is Marx and Hitler, i assure you neither have anything near Plato, Kant or Descartes. You obviously are young. Its clear now.
Besides GT had more viewship than One Piece. Provide anime viewship ratings for the Big 3. Surprise one piece isnt even top 10 lol. Irrelevant franchise.
Btw bozos like you love forgetting Pokemon dwarfs all 3.
Ok I understand that the influence in Japan of slam these titles is very heavy and I know about slam dunk and akira and all of the titles that shaped many aspects of media even in the west. However the big three was a term coined literally to talk about one piece Naruto and bleach. If we are going by cultural significance then yeah obviously slam dunk, North Star, akira, all these titles are very significant. But slam dunk is the 7th best selling manga, and is not nearly as popular in the west as it is in Japan. Just look up big three manga, it is a term for the time period in the mid 2000’s when one piece, bleach and naruto were the three manga reining over everything else in jump. Also one piece has sold the most volumes of any manga every, by a pretty significant margin. Like I agree with you if you are talking about cultural influence but the title of the big three is not that. And sure Pokémon dwarfs all three, it wasn’t in jump! Like the big three is by definition these three manga look it up. You can make up your own term for what the big three is but that’s not what I’m referring too. (Pokémon still doesn’t have nearly as many manga sales as one piece)
