I couldn't resist drawing Mei after watching Clannad After story episode 3...>_> She's just too cute.

Needless to say, Clannad is probably my favorite show this season...Kyou/Ryou/Kotomi's reactions to the "onii-chan" part was too funny.

you are on a website where almost everyone is an anime/manga fan. Thus the name of the website, myanimelist. Therefore, the probability of someone drawing in the japanese style is a lot higher than on other websites (say, a website devoted to horror fandom).

Yeah, higher.. but every-one? I some-times take some influences from it really clone the style I never do.

It's all a matter of how much you work at either, and how much of your own style you add in.

True, but for a complete beginner it's much easier to imitate japanese style rather then the western style or realistic drawing imho. But you sure still have to practice :)

I know that, luckily I'm not a Japan fanatic, who hates everything that deosn't come from the east side of the world and I like a lot of western comics and animation too :) But I think they are a bit more difficult to draw, cos they can be really different in the basics of a character, while by a mangaka who uses a unique style you can still see the similarities with other japanese style drawings.

Hmmm... I don't know if I could express really well what I wanted... maybe I should get to sleep now (4 am here)

Yes, 'comic-book'-style is generally 'simpler', this is because you have to make a lot of panels in limited time, they can't be all photo-realistic paintings.

Wow, what a coincidence. I never watched beast wars, so I was kind of surprised at how close the general figure is. Megatron with a coat, maybe? I guess people having animals coming out of their bodies isn't a terribly original idea, after all... :P

Hellu, new here.

I'm surprised how people can talk about style here... I always thought "style" was something that comes with the years and is something that in the earlier stages can be imitated, just for learning.
Speaking of which. I've been concerned about my style too, lately.
Its getting too realistic! Help me!! :P
