Black Butler
What do you think of the Black Butler English dub?
| Today I happened across some dubbed episodes of Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji). http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=video&v=6691 I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how good the dubbing sounds. So far it's definitely one of the best dubs I've heard. I found myself getting caught up in the storyline, rather than thinking "Hmm...that line was NOT done well." And I think the actors were well chosen. But that's just my opinion. What do you think? (Note: Link above may only work in U.S.) |

| I thought Ciel's and Sebby's voices were fine. Not fantastic, but pretty good. Lao's voice just didn't sound right to me though. I couldn't put my finger on why... The Undertaker's voice could've been just a bit deeper for my liking; but I'm SOO happy they used a (Scottish?) accent. X3 (That was my head-cannon forever! Haha!) |

| it is pretty good, especially John Michael Tatum, I also really like Ono Daisuke who is the original VA for his previous works so I am conflicted. This is probably one of the onlys times I actually would prefer to watch the dub. I am australian so the british accent sounds a lot nice then the american stuff. also it makes a lot more sense given the setting, the japanese lines seemed to have been trying to go for an old britishy vibe regardless. |
| I think the dub is bad. I haven't heard the sub but in the dub, everyone's voice except Sebastian seems out of place. The servants' voices doesn't seem natural at all - seems like they are making up those voices, and it is really annoying almost every time they speak. Plus, the timing of the dialogues is also whack at times. Some dialogues seem like they were just cut short. |
