Ok, I have several questions about Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm a big fan so it's kinda embarrassing asking some of these which I ought to have known3

(1) Transmutation Circles

How close does someone need to be to a transmutation circle to activate it? In both shows, Al and Ed have activated circles without touching them.

(2) Homunculus in the Flask

Where did the "Homunculus in the Flask" come from in FMA Brotherhood? Did they tell and I just missed it or something? Because I was very confused about the whole thing...

(3) Ed's Arm

A friend of mine had this question. Why can't Ed transmute himself a new arm? I assumed it applies under human transmutation which doesn't work.

(4) Homunculus Pride

In FMA Brotherhood, they state that Bradley's son, Salem is still a Homunculus even after Kimbley and Ed destroy his "casing" and he is reborn. How does that work?

(5) Ed and Al's mother not actually their mother

In Brotherhood, Ed and Al discover that the thing they created wasn't actually their mother and are comforted by this. Why would they be comforted by the news that they went through all that and didn't even make their mother's body or something (that episode really confused me)

1. They have to touch the circle?

2. He was created by scientists using hohenheims blood.

3. Your assumption is right.

4. Pretty sure he didn't die, he just lost his human form.

5. They're glad that thier mother didn't have to go through the pain of dying one more time or something.

1. I'm not sure how far you into the series, but yes you have to touch the circle. Ed and Al have exceptions because they

ummmm... Ive completed both series as I sorta hinted in my first post by asking the 'pride question'. well anyway, it apparently seemed to only be in volume 1 of the manga and the first episode. if anyone noticed, al just crosses his hands above the tranmutation circle in lior when hes fixing the radio....Im not sure if arakawa was just being dramatic and didnt show him touching it or what...you guys noticed that? its not really a big deal or anything
