And this is yet another show that's late to Crunchyroll today for no reason other than sheer incompetence. They would go so far as to announced the exact launch time in their own news post, but that's not happening this time.

Episode 38

To start the third season off, the Forgers are at a park when Bond sees a vision of someone wreaking havoc with an excavator. This leads them to a disgruntled construction worker at a demolition site. When the worker snaps and tries to take the excavator off site, Loid stops him using another excavator that he hotwires, and Yor saves an old man and his dog from falling debris. Later, Fiona needs help with making some forged documents, so Loid directs her to Franky for assistance. Franky sets up a meeting at a nightclub with a man named Quill, and Franky can't help but show off Fiona to the other patrons. However, the SSS is tipped off on Quill, and Fiona and Franky have to fend off some agents to protect him.

Episode 38

To start this season, it's two more cases here. First, the Forgers are at the part when an excavator is about to cause destruction as Bond had an ominous vision. Loid ends up springing into action and uses another excavator himself to resolve the problem. And then Fiona tasks Loid with helping her make forged documents, and for that Loid turns to Franky. He sets up a meeting with Quill, but they run into trouble there. So it gets back to doing mini-cases here rather than spending time at school or a big mission like the cruise ship case in the previous season. Nevertheless, it's great to see this faux family being a family while dealing with thugs.

Having the Forgers maintain their secret identities from each other is starting to wear thin for me. I think it would be a lot more fun if they started working as a team. I'd also like to see more budding real romance between Loid and Yor. It's been pretty dry for too many episodes.

However, Franky and Sylvia could be fun if they continue to play that out.

Pretty good start. They showed me what I've been wanting the show to be consistent with for a while now: Play around with the Premise. Bond senses a future problem > Anya learns of it but can't do anything about it > Anya tries to subtly lead her parents to the problem > The assassin parents kicks ass! Hoping this season could be consistent with that. I also like the implication of Franky and Sylvia being shipped-- it mixes up the dynamic, even with Sylvia still dead set on Lloyd. Would love to see a team up between Sylvia and Yuri though.

Same here. I'm actually beginning to forget about that part. That trifecta of unique situation should've been played around with much better. But they went the full family-friendly route and have been quite loose with the premise.

Episode 39

With Anya already having a Bolt right off the bat, she's well on her way to getting kicked out of school, especially with the Schlag, who leads the disciplinarian committee, going around and slapping Bolts on the high school kids for seemingly minor infractions. Even something as simple as not bringing their hanky will get them a Bolt from Schlag as Damian forgot his. Anya gives him her hanky thinking she had a spare, but it turns out she doesn't and got a Bolt. And then Loid's childhood is explained as he's the son of a Westalia soldier who is often out at work. He would spend most of his childhood being a soldier. But one day, his father went to work, and then he was killed during an invasion by Ostania. So now, the story about how Loid came to be a spy is told, and it's no wonder why the title is as it is seeing that his real name is unknown.

Episode 39

A storm brews around Eden College, as Donna of the disciplinary committee is issuing Tonitrus Bolts left and right for even the most minor infractions. Damian has forgotten his handkerchief, so Anya, thinking she has a spare one, offers him hers. But Anya doesn't have a spare, and she gets a Tonitrus Bolt instead. Damian tries to own up to the mistake, but Anya tells him not to, after realizing Donna will give them two more Tonitrus Bolts in response.

Next, we journey into Loid's childhood. Young Loid wanted to be a soldier when he grew up, and he played war games in a military depot with some friends. But his father was against Loid's choice of future paths. When his father left to go east for a job, Loid asked for some allowance, but lied on what he was going to spend it on. The next day, he felt guilty, so he decided against playing war games at the depot. Just then, munitions were dropped overhead, and Loid's town became a war zone.

Episode 40

Loid's background wraps up as after Loid's father disappeared, his mother was killed in a bombing campaign from Ostania. That motivated Loid to become a soldier, and forging his identity as Lorand Spoofy in order to enlist despite being underaged. During a battle, he would meet up with Franky for the first time, who was an Ostania soldier who defected. And then came the guy who would go on to become Loid's master as he had been scouting him, and knowing that he has what it takes to become a spy, tells him to throw away everything that made him who he was, including his real name. Loid sure lived through quite a tough time there and now he's on a mission to make sure no more kids will go through what he just experienced.

Young Loid and his mother left their home to his uncle's house, but soon more bombs were dropped, and Loid lost his mother as well. Several years later, Loid enlisted in the Westalian army under a false name. One night, Loid encountered Franky, who was defecting from the other side. Loid soon came under fire, and ended up being reassigned to the rear, where he met up with his friends again, after being convinced that they had died in the initial bombing. However, his friends died soon after, when they went on a campaign that went horribly wrong. Later, a spy from Westalis's intelligence division showed up to recruit Loid, and Handler was assigned as his instructor.

Huh, didn't even think Lloyd Forger might not be his real name. I guess it makes sense for a spy. I suppose that was a set up for his dad to return at some point. All those hits to the head, he's going to be at risk for CTE.

Episode 41

First half, the famous opera singer Wellman is accused of sowing discontent between the east and west, so Sherwood is on the case to get to the bottom of this scandal. It turns out that the one who set this up is a security guard in Pance Karmer, who is after Wellman's life. He was taken down before he could do so. For the second half, Henderson has some advice for Anya as to how to become an Imperial Scholar and shows her around the hall of scholars. This is something that can't be achieved overnight, but despite already having two bolts it's important to learn from her mistakes seeing that one of the scholars had as many as six bolts. So it's back to one part mission, one part school life as life together as a fake family continues.

The death threat was made by a security guard, and while one agent stalls the opera singer, Handler disarms the guard before he has a chance to shoot him. Later, as Anya waits for the bus to go home, Henry asks for her help carrying some books to his office, and he offers some advice to her about becoming an Imperial Scholar. At the end of the day, Henry's not sure if his advice got through to her.

This season is the most I enjoyed Anya so far. I guess I like her more when she isn't trying to be cute a lot-- her natural stupidity is adorable enough.

Glad to see more of Handler. Just wish it didn't come in the form of making her look intellectual by giving her a dunce subordinate.
They used the tactic of making a very dumb character to make the other seem so intelligent; The writer(s) probably couldn't write a 'smart' character. Maybe they should just lessen the 'enlightenment' dialogues.

It turns out that Yor got acquainted with Damian's mother Melinda. Loid tries to make sense of the encounter seeing that Melinda is estranged from her husband and son. So while Yor manages to score points with Melinda there, Anya still has a long way to go with Damian seeing that she threw food on him there at the end.

While out shopping at a mall, Yor saves a woman from falling down the stairs, and she soon ends up joining her and some friends for a volleyball match. It turns out this woman is Melinda Desmond, Donovan's wife and Damian's mother. The two become close friends, and when Yor tells Loid about Melinda, he sees this as another angle for Operation Strix. Anya, however, sees this as some competition, and when she asks for Becky's help on how to quickly become friends with Damian, Becky's thoughts immediately turn to love. Becky's idea ultimately fails, and Damian gets a burger in his face.

Red Circus has taken the kids hostage to use as leverage to get them to negotiate with them as these guys are none too pleased that they were born into wealth. Knowing that they are headed for Papier Park, Anya sends a secret message to Damian to get him to distract the terrorists so that Anya can deliver the SOS message. In light of that, the terrorists put a bomb on Anya, but she knows it's fake due to her mind-reading ability, and then Damian asks to have the bomb be put on him as well. And then the police surrounds the bus after setting a trap to puncture its tires. Red Circus comes out and demands that their guys are released and they are sent to the nation to the north. The SSS then arrives telling the police that they will handle this. Meanwhile, Yuri apparently knows something that can help turn the tables. Quite a dangerous situation, but it's a good thing Anya's ability to read minds is coming through in this mess.

The two girls set up a plan to throw a message out the window, and when Damian finds out, he decides to distract the extremists while Anya throws the message out. But Billy, the leader of the extremists, notices, and he straps a bomb around Anya's neck. Of course, when Anya reads his mind, she realizes it's a fake. But Damian, not knowing that, tries to negotiate getting the bomb strapped on him in her place, and he gets another bomb on him instead.

The bus hits a spike strip, and the police intercept it. Billy gets the students to put curtains over the windows, and things turn into a hostage negotiation as he relays his demands. Meanwhile, WISE finds out where the other bus the extremists hijacked might be, and when they leak the info, Yuri moves to find the second bus.

Anya's imagination is hilarious, though for a comedic show like this I think this situation is a little traumatic for these kids (threatened at gun point) and then went the extra step by straping bombs on them. Every one of these kids would be shitting and pissing themselves. Should have seperated out Anya and Damien and kept it to those two. Interesting they are keeping Lloyd and Yor out of it.

While help is on the way, the hostage situation continues to intensify. Henderson goes in to help out the kids by supplying them food and water from Becky's family. As it turns out, the Red Circus leader Billy's daughter Biddy was killed by the government, and has been on a mission to put a stop to this kind of inequality at school. While that's going on, Yuri leads a squad to take down the terrorists holding the other bus hostage. And while the bombs on Anya and Damian are fake, there's a real one somewhere on the bus that Billy is prepared to activate. So Anya decides to make a stand and uses hunger as to get off the bus, while using Billy's sob story to convince him to surrender. However, Vadim is still going forward, but ends up driving the bus into a couple of armored vehicles, then takes Anya hostage before Becky's servant Martha comes to the rescue. When Billy agrees to the police's request to send food and water over, Henry delivers them to the bus, and when he finds a teacher is hurt, he offers to do a hostage swap for himself. He puts the students' minds at ease, and when he talks to Billy, he learns that Billy's daughter, another member of the Red Circus, was killed by government officials years ago. Meanwhile, Yuri locates the other bus at a storage depot, and a team dispatches the hostage takers, though he gets shot in the shoulder in the process.

When Billy learns that his comrades have been taken out, the driver, Vadim, starts to lose patience; he's got a real bomb on board that he plans to detonate. Plus, the State Security Service is about to send a small squad to take the bus by force. Anya decides to step forward again, demanding that she get some more food. Her actions cause Billy to think of his dead daughter, and soon he loses his will to fight and decides to surrender peacefully. Unfortunately, Vadim will have none of that, and he tries to ram the bus through the blockade. When that fails, he grabs Anya and tries to use her as a human shield, but Martha tases him before he gets too far. With that, the hostage situation has been dealt with.

This season is really doing quite well with tackling the serious political and war aspects of the story, and all while balancing it with a pretty good comedy as well-- it's the most I've had fun from the entire series.

The story of Billy and his daughter was really touching. If the series wasn't intended to be lighthearted and wholesome, I would've loved for that part to be more of a big deal in a much serious manner, same with Lloyd's backstory.

They faked us out with that Yor chaos tease xD But Martha being the one to do it does make more sense-- she's already at the scene.
