They said "curse" but obviously Maomao is going to find some logical real disease for why he acted that way right?

@MenchiK1 Oh, the curse. lol. I think he was already into the lolis before she ever 'cursed' him. I suspect he and his mom were doing some oddball thing to try and extend his life and it somehow preserved his body.

Episode 32 And now, Maomao tries to figure out how the emperor died, with the key clue being an opriment and a suspicious-looking wall. With the building set for demolition, Maomao peels off the wallpaper, revealing a painting using paint from orpiment with the toxic chemical arsenic in it. Having seen the painting, Maomao concludes that the late emperor was an artist and died due to arsenic poisoning. After learning what kind of person the emperor really was, Anshi tells her story about her relationship with the emperor, and pretty much he broke his mind with her aggression wanting to gain his affection. Seeing that painting sure gave Anshi a different perspective on things realizing that she didn't truly know who the emperor was.

After looking at some of Jinshi's old toys, Maomao figures out how the late emperor's body remained pristine. She reveals a painting behind some wallpaper and divulges that what preserved his body was a particular paint that is as toxic as arsenic. Later, Anshi reflects on her relationship with the late emperor, and how she broke his mind by forcing herself on him once he stopped seeing her. It seems the late emperor had some phobia towards older women.

Yeah poison pigment, not too original. I enjoyed the Empress dowager's story more. I guess Jinshi's apple doesn't fall far from the tree as far as his interest in lolis go. Maomao would have been a top girl if she had been born back then.

It slipped my mind before, but I think the daughter of the concubine, that they claimed wasn't the emperor's child and got sent off with the medical officer, could be the woman from the first season that caused all those incidents before faking her death to escape the palace. It would explain why she has a grudge against the imperial family and knowledge of medicines.

Episode 34 On a hot summer day, all the ladies gather around to hear some ghost stories. While they are providing chills, Maomao is quickly getting dizzy from hearing them. And after some rather outrageous stories it's Maomao's turn, but she couldn't get through her story. And then comes the "13th" story even though there are only 12 in the room and Maomao finally realizes why she was feeling dizzy as the firewood there at the center of the circle was producing some noxious fumes. So Maomao interrupted the last story to warn the girls and the organizer disappears just like that and realizes that the girls there were meant to be that 13th story. Quite the clever trick that was seeing that it took Maomao until the final story to figure it out, but the organizer had some malicious plans in the making that were snuffed out in the nick of time.

After Gyokuyou gets three new attendants (who all look alike even though they're not triplets), Yinghua convinces Maomao to join her at a shed at night for a round of ghost stories. Shisui is at the gathering as well, and she tells quite the chilling tale. In contrast, Maomao isn't very good, and Yinghua can't even get started. During the last story, Maomao begins to pass out, but she arouses herself with a start and quickly opens the window to let air in so nobody suffocates from the smoke gradually filling the room from the smoldering fire. Upon returning to the Jade Pavilion, Hongniang mentions that the person who hosted this gathering the previous year passed away. This makes Maomao wonder if that last story came from the organizer's personal experience, while Yinghua becomes so scared, believing that the organizer was a ghost, that she begs that she sleep with Maomao that night.

Episode 35 Jinshi summons Maomao to the palace as she's being taken on a hunting trip that brings her to a summer resort town to stay the night. After getting acquainted with some guys Jinshi is familiar with, it's off to the forest with Jinshi wearing a mask and taking on the name of Kousen. And then Maomao goes off to find Jinshi, who is dizzy from wearing that mask as he's being hunted. The guys after Jinshi's head attack and they try to shake them off by jumping down a waterfall, managing to find a cave behind the waterfall to hide. Knowing that they attacked using a feifa that can't be fired in succession, he's right to deduce that there are multiple assassins. And so, they go through the cave and find a hidden grassland, but before that Jinshi is getting ready to confess his love for Maomao. Pretty dramatic episode there as Jinshi has made a number of enemies.

Jinshi and Maomao go on a hunting trip, and it seems the effort of trying to hide his face is making him exhausted. But some people want them dead, and Jinshi carries Maomao and leaps down a waterfall to evade their pursuers. Maomao climbs on Jinshi's shoulders to try and get through a cave opening above them, but a frog causes her to slip. Jinshi has been waiting for the right moment to tell Maomao some deep secret, and now seems to be a good time as any, as no one else is around.

I think it is simply that Maomao's brain is wired for hard facts. Fact: Men other than the Emperor are not allowed in the Rear Palace unless they are eunuchs. Fact: Jinshi is in the Rear Palace. Therefore - Fact: Jinshi is a eunuch. Her mind simply doesn't go anywhere else since it would be (in her opinion) pointless.

Episode 36 Basically, Maomao learns that Jinshi has balls, and thus is not a eunuch, and man's best friend helped the guys track down the one who sent the assassins to gun him down. And after all that, Maomao is presented with a gift of ox gallstones, a rare and valuable item for apothecaries. And also being revealed is that Jinshi is the Moon Prince, the emperor's brother, and his real name is Ka Zuigetsu. This episode is all about Jinshi as he's a much bigger deal than he appears to be, and it's no wonder why he has so many enemies.

Ugh may as well be a eunuch dude acts like he has no balls. Well who knows what might have happened if the dog hadn't cock blocked him. Still after his first hand job dude had to be ready to explode. Maomao still not asking any questions about why he isn't a eunuch is still pretty annoying as was her I don't understand people excuse. The dude was trying to kiss you what can you be misunderstanding? Ah whatever the author really wants to drag this out. And wow next episode is a bath episode? Hope it's not just MaoMao and all her undeveloped friends.

Well, just as I thought, Maomao finds out Jinshi is not a eunuch, and she tries to play off what she felt as a frog. Jinshi's determined to tell her his secret, but Lihaku's dog spoils his big moment. They then employ the dog's assistance and set up an elaborate sting to track down and apprehend the would-be assassins and their guns. Later, Maomao finally gets her ox bezoars, and Jinshi never gets the chance to tell her his big secret: that he's related to the emperor, and his real name is Ka Zuigetsu.

It's time for new theme songs with the show entering the second half and a major reveal was made last time. Episode 37 Maomao's outlook certainly has changed after learning that not only is Jinshi is not a eunuch, but he's royalty. In the meantime, it's back to work as she, along with Shisui, helps Xiaolan out seeing that her service is about to end. And in the meantime they head out to the baths. So after the last few episodes were action-packed considering that this has mostly been a detective show, that it's a nice change of pace to get some fanservice in before things get serious in a big way based on what the new visual is hinting at.

@zkeleton Shisui was working on the other lady, why would she look or get invited? It was a reward to the 3 who did work on Lishu. Anyway worst bath episode ever, really that thin white cloth when wet wouldn't be more clingy? Though I guess bug girl isn't as shapeless as I thought and they threw in one of the hot sisters too. Also uhhh Asians have pretty sparse body hair can't imagine the need to pluck it, especially for women who wear 5 layers of clothing. Unless it was just a G-rated metaphor for where they would really want it plucked, especially to women who wanted to be more presentable if the Emperor visits. ;) I guess Lishu's loliness is so irresistible it has the ghost of the lolicon Emperor haunting her.

I think I appreciate Shisui's character so much more now. That Seki-U girl as well. They should probably consider a career at the Verdigris House. ~_~ You can tell that Jinshi really loves Maomao for who she is as a person since her body's definitely not effective enough to make a 'frog' croak. xD Not a fan of the new OP and ED, and I don't think it's the kind that would grow on me like the precious ones; The ED might have a chance. Galaxy-Crisis said:That's definitely a big clue for something since we got nothing from that statement since then, and there's definitely no reason to highlight Maomao wondering about that. Would be a very interesting twist for sure. Maomao did mention that Shisui's face looked familiar somehow during the ghost storytelling incident. Not sure if I'm reading too much into it but, the ED sequence was also seemingly hinting something with Shisui being shown a bit separated from the two, givingthem a big smile as she notices them. If anything, it's at least telling us that this 2nd cour will definitely involve Shisui a lot. But I'm just glad we get more Xiaolan this time; I always find it cute the ways she says "Maomao-o".

I enjoyed the second season, but it lacked the sense of tension in the first. The mystery of Maomao's father and mother gave that season a certain weight absent in this season. But I think this 2nd-cour finally has that tension with the mystery behind Shisui, Loulan, and that one mysterious guy among the new eunuchs they've shown. There's likely some more Jinshi stuff as well-- maybe he'd finally be able to tell Maomao the truth about him. So, things might get more tense real soon. |

Episode 38 And now, Maomao is on the case to figure out what exactly the big deal is over that ghost that Lishu claims to have seen. So Maomao checks out the warehouse and sees quite a lot of mold and worn out parts. Then she sees that the bathtub was unplugged, as well as an open window. And that was the answer that Maomao needed as the so-called ghost was actually the curtain hanging on the open window, while the water draining through the unplugged bathroom caused the sound, and the face was caused by a copper mirror's reflection. So with that solved, the story moves on as now there's the matter of the big block of ice for a concubine that was broken due to Xiaolan's clumsiness.
Apr 11, 9:52 AM

It seems the so-called bathhouse ghost is a reflection of a hidden image of Lishu's late mother in a mirror, and Lishu takes this as some sort of sign. Jinshi's presence actually is twofold, as he's there to find proof that Lishu is being mistreated, and he finds it when the former head lady-in-waiting tries to take the mirror away. Later, Jinshi realizes another obstacle in bringing Maomao deeper into his fold: how to appease Lakan, her father. But Maomao has problems that are more personal now, as her friend Xiaolan has dropped a rather important shipment of ice.

Jinshi getting pretty handsy, Maomao still dumb only when it comes to him. | NOOOO! Not Xiaolan! She's too nice of a person to deserve negativities! X( But judging from the preview, seeing as Xiaolan and Shisui were shown fooling around, I'd assume they'll manage to deal with it quickly. Unless that was just Shisui making her feel better. I'm really liking Jinshi and Lady Gyokuyou passive-aggresive bickering for Maomao's ownership xD But looks like there won't be much of that now that Jinshi has called Maomao by her name in front of Lady Gyokuyou, which I assume is the key to her approval. Was that Maomao's uncle shown in the preview? He's coming to the palace? Please let it be so, so the story could finally get some much needed tension. HOOfan_1 said:I thought so too. | @zkeleton I see. Appreciate these info; These details tend to go over my head as I get confused by barrage of words xD I forget that the concubines come from well-known families who offered them, and that their ladies-in-waiting are not like servants who were sold to work for the palace. I guess Lishu really has it bad, being offered so young and having to incapably be responsible of their 'household' and a possibility of being a mother at a very early age-- good thing the emperor is somewhat sane. Her only chance for a bit of comfort now would be if Kanan could push herself to be a commanding head lady-in-waiting for Lishu's sake. |
