How much is the 'they all look the same' running joke/gag continued in the second season?

If I remember correctly, it does get brought up from time to time. Futarou being able to tell the 5 apart at times is used for character growth and it ends up being used as an emotional payoff in the first movie. So yes it does keep getting used, but the uses vary depending on what the story needed in that moment.

Again, been a minute since I watched the show so I may be misremembering details.

Sorry but I don't think you get it. It's literally not a joke. All 5 are designed differently for us viewers to easily differentiate.

But in the work itself, they look literally the same except for the hairstyles(for high school) and the hair accessories (for elementary school)

It's not a gag but more like a setting

“I can differentiate them because they are designed differently for my viewing, why can’t the characters in the show do the same?” It’s almost like you didn’t read what the guy said.

It’s brought up quite a bit, but stuff like that is important to the plot. No matter how frustrating it can be sometimes. Season 2 is definitely worth the watch in my opinion

That's a setting that has been used as a joke.
Actually only someone who truely loves them is able to differentiate them and that's how it's been used in the series as a way to make their relationship grow. The author probably figured out it would be quite troublesome to wait for the reader / viewer to fall in love with the girls before they understand who is talking but except themselves no one can tell them apart except for their mom and Fuutarou.

There will be parts of the story where he had to tell who is who while the girls as wearing the same outfit or even being disguised as each other to deceive him. So it won't always be that easy. I think you will enjoy it.
