![]() https://myanimelist.net/anime/53128/ Plot Summary In the near future, a sudden and unexplained sea rise has left much of human civilization underwater. Ikaruga Natsuki, a boy who lost his mother and his leg in an accident some years earlier, returns disillusioned from a harsh life in the big city to find his old countryside home half-swallowed by the sea. Left without a family, all he has to his name is the ship and submarine left to him by his oceanologist grandmother, and her debts. His only hope to restore the dreams for the future that he has lost is to take up an opportunity presented to him by the suspicious debt collector Catherine. They set sail to search the sunken ruins of his grandmother's laboratory in order to find a treasure rumor says she left there. But what they find is not riches or jewels; it is a strange girl lying asleep in a coffin at the bottom of the sea. Atri. Atri is a robot, but her appearance and her wealth of emotions would fool anyone into thinking she's a living, breathing human being. In gratitude for being salvaged, she makes a declaration to Natsuki: "I want to fulfill my master's final order. Until I do, I'll be your leg!" In a little town slowly being enveloped by the ocean, an unforgettable summer is about to begin for this boy and this mysterious robot girl... Episode 1 And thus, this show begins with Natsuki, who has a prosthetic leg after an accident, waking up and explaining the situation the world is in, all while having panic attacks galore when he's in dark spaces. The sea levels have risen, though not because of the climate change as it is the result of a catastrophic tectonic event. Natsuki lives as a scavenger hoping to pay off his debt for his prosthetic leg, and during one of his salvages, he finds the cute android girl Atri, who was being built by his late grandmother Nonko, and the shock of finding her causes him to lose his prosthetic leg and drown, but she saves him. Seeing that Atri is a state-of-the-art model as opposed to the numerous androids that were recalled, that selling her would more than pay off his debt, but he doesn't want to let her go. Natsuki sure is miserable as hell there, and understandably so due to the traumatizing events of his life, but meeting Atri will be the best thing to happen to his life. That was quite a great way to start things off as this is going to be a show with lots of character development and feels, and the first episode was bombarded with these feels. This is from a Frontwing game, which is best known for the Grisaia series, and Aniplex sure is going all-out with the production for this show as it looks great. Curious to see where this relationship goes as Natsuki feels like he has sunk the bottom of the ocean, but he now has someone to support him and get through these tough times. |

The boy seems angst-ridden, but the android girl compensates for that. This looks like it will be a good show, and I'll be watching. |

So why did they need the Sub? You could get that deep with diving equipment and bring up what you need with the crane on the boat. The MC getting all panicky, getting the sub stuck, then jumping in the water and almost drowning like an idiot because apparently he can't swim--while living on a boat--makes him look pretty stupid and useless. This one has visual novel written all over it. And looking at the info confirms it. Does the same person make all these or is there some kind of template all the directors copy when making anime based on visual novels? I have as yet to watch one of these that didn't disappoint me and this isn't looking like it's going to break the streak. |

Episode 2 Natsuki and Atri couldn't be any more different in personality as Atri's cheery AI serves as a counterbalance to Natsuki's bleak outlook on life, as well as his leg replacement. She and Minamo are getting along quite well. Natsuki has been sweating bullets as those nightmares have been taking its toll. And then the next day, Natsuki goes into an abandoned convenience store to see what he can find as most of the food is gone, and whatever is left might not be edible. As is typical for a show adapted from a visual novel, there are serious bits, and they are lighthearted bits as well seeing that at some point the MC will leave his gloomy state for good, and this episode is far more lighthearted than the first going to show that Atri is just the one who can turn Natsuki around. |

No gas, no water, no electricity and scavenging for food. I didn't realize I was watching Fallout. "I think he likes you"? Really? At what point did he ever give that impression with the way he treats Atri? Also, as the childhood friend you should not be encouraging this in any way shape or form. You're already at a huge disadvantage as a childhood friend. |

@zkeleton Natsuki seems to have a low-end prosthetic leg. I imagine he has a hard time swimming with those, hence the sub. He should be able to float just fine though. There are high-end prosthetic legs that help with swimming, but those tend to be pretty pricey. Other people could go with diving, but the other folks in this town don't seem interested enough to explore the submerged sections. |

Episode 3 Atri is not built to be a housewife, and even though she is a robot, she's capable of telling lies as she made up that story about being a battle droid. In the meantime, Natsuki believes he has a source of energy available being near windmills, but turning them is another matter entirely. In any case, this was a pretty lighthearted episode considering the circumstances, and Atri would be a popular girl at school, but she's a robot all while school is no longer in session. |

It looks like the blonde had built a Leyden jar to store power from her little wind generator, but I'm not sure that would illuminate a standard light bulb. It might work with a small fluorescent though, at least briefly. Interesting that he didn't mention solar. They'd need panels, which they couldn't manufacture, but you'd think there would be some on the island somewhere. The show seems to have this weird alternate history where they didn't have solar panels and didn't anticipate rising sea levels, but they did have humanoid robots that look convincingly like cute girls in short skirts. At least they had their priorities correct. :-D |

Episode 4 And into the open sea they go as Atri is going on a diving expedition, and is even wearing a swimsuit to do it. They catch some crabs and they got an imagawayaki grill. And at night, Atri puts on what Minamo believes is sleepwear, but are actually old-school undergarments. And then Catherine, whose real name is Hanako Osada and was a teacher before everything became a watery hell, appears in even bigger desperation to sell Atri, but a rocket punch from Atri got her to buzz off. And then they go searching for batteries, but most of them have already been scavenged, and Natsuki knows why Atri is so valuable in that she comes from a line of androids that was discontinued, though the reason remains unclear. And now, their relationship is really tested here as Atri is willing to let herself be sold so that Natsuki's can fulfill his dream, but Natsuki isn't so willing to budge. Quite a lot was revealed here, and now this show has come to a crossroads where Natuki and Atri will need to find common ground. |

Jeeze, solar panels everywhere on the roofs, and they're trying to build a tidal generator? Even if the panels are old they just lose some efficiency, and they generate DC voltage without needing a motor. I'm guessing the story is going to be about building some sort of energy storage, but they sure are getting there sideways. |

Episode 5 And let there be light. Catherine is convinced to return to her job as a teacher even if she's only teaching a few kids who are still left, all while Atri and company work hard to get some power generated, and they did just that. Now that they have some electricity, now they need to produce more of it. As for that junk shop owner, somebody ordered him to swipe Atri, and so it will be interesting to see who ordered him and what exactly about Atri makes her a valuable commodity. |

Episode 6 Natsuki is now a teacher and has started his own salvaging business now that he has the power up and running. He's having arough time, but at least he has a far better outlook now. And the mysteries just keep coming as that song at the end is quite a big reveal as Natsuki remembers it quite well as Atri's memories of the past are slowly coming into focus. |

Episode 7 That revelation at the end was something, and now Natsuki is trying to make sense of things as his memories are still missing, and now he has a lead. Atri was apparently his childhood friend and first love, but he's not convinced. So they go shopping together for shoes, and while those high platform shoes look great, they aren't practical for walking. And then they fall in love. While there's a lot to uncover here, it's clear that Natsuki and Atri were meant for each other even if she is a robot. |

Episode 7 This has been nice so far, but college kid falling for teenage robot isn't the easiest to deal with. I wasn't satisfied with Atri's argument that she has a "heart," either; that she referenced Natsuki's desire that she have one makes it seem like she's just saying it to please him. She's been ridiculous enough it's fairly easy to think she has emotions, but by hamhandedly emphasizing the issue the episode ended up watering down the conclusion it wanted to make. |
I love him who is ashamed when the dice fall in his favour and who then asks: Am I then a cheat? – for he wants to perish. |

It didn't occur to me until partway through this episode (Atri's date plan) that this was a visual novel adaptation, but that certainly explains a lot. I'm not sure the show can recover now. I wouldn't be surprised if Atri can literally bear children. |

Episode 8 A humanoid with a heart is how Natsuki will see Atri from hereon out. Natsuki is hard at work at school, but when it comes to swimming class he's totally slacking off seeing that he can't swim with that flimsy prosthetic leg of his. Minamo continues to tell Natsuki who he was seeing that his memories are lost. And then at night as Natsuki can't fall asleep and while Atri was fast asleep he reads Atri's diary and sees that all those emotions and affections were faked as she was simply mimicking what she has learned and doing things by the book. Just when it looked like things were looking up, all of the sudden this happens where Natsuki finds out that none of it was actually real. Now what will Natsuki do next as I get the feeling that Atri is probably a replacement for the girl who he truly felt with and that girl died not long after making that confession. |

Episode 8 I didn't mind this followup to the last episode. Though you'd think Natsuki would expect Atri's diary to say such things. She's a robot; if she is going to understand love and whatnot, those are the things she's got to work through. And all the characters know this, which is why they were asking her leading questions this and last episode. And even if Natsuki was just blind and oblivious, that he was so shocked by her diary that he'd yell at her to stay away isn't all that believable. Also, @runec lol, I forgot about Sex Robot. |

Kind of obvious where the story goes from here. Android runs away/gets stolen. Boy realizes he overreacted and all that matters is his feelings are real, blah, blah, etc. Boy, and friends, go rescue android. HOOfan_1 said: I'm surprised it took you that long. Episode 9 Whoa boy did things take a dramatically dark turn here. The truth about Atri is revealed, and she's among the line of 4th gen androids in development, but they were recalled because they had problems obeying their masters. But one of them was not returned, and that is Atri, and she caused a lot of chaos because she was running free. But in light of this, Natsuki decides that he needs Atri to continue to be the same girl she always was. Before that, he will need to save her from the former employees of Yamanaki Laboratories that is out to scrap her, and goes as far as holing kids hostage to get her. But if they were going to scrap her, they should have just taken her away and dispose of her at a secret location rather than putting on a show of it. At least Natsuki's mind is made up now that he knows the truth about what happened, but man did things get dark in a big way. |

Episode 10 With Natsuki siding with Atri, he gets beaten down by Yasuda with his mechanical arm. After that, with Natsuki and Atri beaten down, Atri's history is explained, and her relationship with Shiina, who is Natsuki's mother, as it turns out that Atri is 31 years old. Atri got her name from Shiina after a finch landed on her head. Life was great, but everything changed when Shiina entered high school as a female classmate bullied her. Shiina lost her mind, and the bullying reached its peak when she was chosen for the lead role in the cultural festival play and was about to commit suicide, and that's when she injured one of the bullies to get Shiina to back off, only to be called a monster by her master. No wonder Natsuki is who he is as he inherited his mother's despair, though Shiina at least managed to live long enough to become a mother. That was quite the emotional story there, and it's clear as to why Atri ended up who she became that led to the recall and everything, and seeing that her previous master is Natsuki's mother that it's no wonder why she's so affectionate towards him. |
