Depends on the chapter in a volume and the the contents of it. Its usually 2 to 4 episodes long.

If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Some manga I read has like 3-4 chapter each volume. You could easily make an entire episode with just one chapter of said manga volume. But it depends.
I'd say 1 volume could probably be about 2-4 episodes, depending on the manga. Otherwise, it might be rushed and they'd skip a lot.

In my experience there is no clean metric, since many chapters have many different lengths. I mean Nichijou is a great example. The first volume is 18 chapters, and it comprised mostly of four panel comics. Then there's Youjo Senki which has only like 3 chapters per volume. It only really works if there is not many changes between them which is not usually the case.

Some 12 episode shows likely 3-4 episodes for ones I've compared to whether 1 manga or 1 light novel volume per those 3-4 episodes, so 3-4 volumes per 12 episode season, how much they compress of scenes, cut out, and so on.

For 4komas if a comedy/story based slice of life it's hard to tell I think. If 24 episodes maybe 5-6 volumes maybe. If it's a more 3 minute, 8 minute, 12 minute short form show maybe the same maybe less it depends on the chapters, how many chapters are in a volume.

Some maybe a bit more or a bit less. I mean with some that have very few chapters they can get by, with more scenes/panels and more cut to fit it is probably more likely then more comedy/slice of life ones with fewer (in some series not all).

I get surprised by how many chapters or pages per chapter different series scale by. Not only for the cost of the manga varying and by publisher/licensor but just in general.

It varies from series to series what content the anime will cover. There is no scale just commonness you can sort of guess/see from series to series, season to season of said series events.
