Nice, I've seen a lot of anime final battles with the big boss but that one might just take the cake. They pulled the old Dragonball Z ki supression but took it to the extreme. Whereas DBZ still had the fight, this one was over before it even began. Love it. If only Aura had said "Over 9000?!" And smashed her scales, LOL.
Of course Luke said it to the Emperor even longer ago "Your overconfidence is your weakness". How much cooler would it have been to see Luke make the Emperor pick up his lightsaber and cut his own head off though?
Freiren's low key always bored personality makes such great sense, loved that most of the episode was a flashback with Flamme. Even the way they saved that for this was brilliant. She really knew what she was doing when she chose her apprentice.
This show is so good it's going to be so hard now to take shonen fighting shows seriously after this haha.
I'd also love a 2nd season but this was such a well paced story I am sure after next week there won't really be any more story to tell. Which I don't mind in a way.

The show is only halfway through volume 3 of 11. Plenty left for a season 2. Like you said it's well paced and doesn't seem to be rushing through it's source material.

I spent the episode both appreciating the flashback with Flamme and worrying the way it was pacing we'd have to wait another episode to see the battle between Frieren and Aura. The battle was over the moment Frieren landed.

I love the way this anime brilliantly plays with expectations.

Episode 11

With Aura and her minions dead, the battle is over and after holding a memorial for the soldiers, the journey continues. Unfortunately, it's winter and they are quite harsh the further north they go. Good thing Frieren knew where to find shelter in the middle of the woods, and there they meet Kraft, a fellow elf priest who hasn't seen an elf in over 300 years. They end up spending six months there as they wait for the winter to pass by, and they become close friends with Kraft. Stark comes across as an oddball, but he's somebody who's easy to get along with, and seeing another elf was just what he needed.

Ha, when Stark started dreaming about the jumbo berry parfait, I realized he has the same voice actor as Mash from Mashle.

The music playing during Frieren's remembrance of the priest was pretty epic.

From a party composition, it's a shame that Kraft didn't join the team. As a priest and long lived elf, I assume he's cable of healing magic. He would've been really helpful for someone like Stark.

I am amazed at how Frieren and Fraft are so nonchalant about possible extinction of their kind. Frieren originally lived in a village, so maybe the elves were more likely to procreate in the past.

@Graumann Didn't she say earlier that elves basically had no interest in procreation? They seem asexual. There's no half-elves running around either.

I suppose if you have no interest in procreation and treat hundreds of years as a little while then nothing seems that urgent.

@Graumann he said he is a Monk, from my admittedly very low knowledge of RPG classes, monks are hand to hand or staff weapon fighters, not sorcerers

@runec Frieren did mention that, but there's also a contradictory point when she first encountered Flamme. She was in an elven village with a decent population. At that time, the Demon King did order for mass murder of elves. Perhaps the elves population became so low that elves rarely saw each other, and with lesser bonding, became more and more asexual in a thousand years.

@HOOfan_1 True, he seemed a priest in his profession, but potentially monk in terms of combat. There are some example in RPGs with healing monks. In World of Warcraft, the monk class has a specialization called Mistweaver; which is a melee-based healer monk.

It makes sense for a long lived race to not be very emotional.

I can see that. With how even 50 years isn't a lot of time to them it could take decades of spending time with someone before they start to develop romantic feelings. That wouldn't be so much an issue as long as there were villages of them living together. If the demon king managed to destroy all their villages, and it seems like he did, then it would be a very big problem for the scattered survivors.

Ah too bad the one male elf left and he is a Monk. Like everything else they just seem practical. From the flashback it does seem as though the demons have wiped out almost all the elves. Frieren herself would be dead if not for Flamme and no one they meet seems to have ever seen another elf besides her. Guess they are just resigned to the fact that even if they had a kid they would be doomed to not find another elf so why put them through that. Or maybe they just aren't in any rush, they did seem to acknowle they will meet again. Maybe when they are less busy with their current quests they can think about kids. The way this show skips ahead in time maybe we'll even get to see.

Episode 12

The party is navigating through a blizzard in the mountains as she underestimated them. They venture into a village where the Hero Sword that even Himmel failed to draw from the stone. While Himmel was a fake hero, he was a hero nonetheless. The chief of that village is now a little girl as much of the place has died down. And then Stark's birthday is coming up, and Frieren and Fern are looking at presents to give him, though there's just no way Stark would ever take that potion that Fern ultimately used on Frieren. Fern got Stark a bracelet, albeit not that expensive gold one he wants. And for dinner, they celebrate with a meal of Hamburg steak. This episode is all about what being a hero is all about as while Himmel was a hero, he was a fake. But Stark has a chance of being that real hero, but has quite a long way to go.

Btw I hate the way this forum works, typed a huge reply, hit the reply buttom and it just dissappeared :(

Anyway...(see if I remember what I typed)
Nice flashback with Stark, love the way this show integrates all of those into the plot. Same with Himmel and the sword (Stark wasn't going to try to pull it?). Loli mayor was pretty funny (so was her grandmother's will), lots teasing the lolicons this episode. First the mayor then tge feet firat view of Frieren reading her book in her undergarment, then Fern actually dissolving it. Just to tease them more they might get an actual glimpse of her 12 year old looking body, haha doubt even the blu-ray will fulfill that fantasy.
Funny the different attitude Fern and Frieren took from learning how ecchi men are from the Priest. Frieren just accepts it and Fern is always suspicious and on guard.
And wow did Stark get a friendship bracelet from Fern? Usually that a bad "friend-zoned" sign but in this case that's at least a move in a positive direction.

@MenchiK1 I'm not sure if he did or didn't try the sword and the show opted to not show it. I think it's intentional.

I continue to be impressed with how what Fern/Frieren are thinking gets transmitted when the camera focuses on their staring, unblinking faces. Like the amount of time they hold the shot manages to imply what's (probably) going through their heads based on what we've seen of them so far.

Fern seems to be getting possessive, maybe makes the shippers happy :P.

~"No princess-style-carrying other women, Stark!"

Nonmagical jewelry is probably a bad idea for a melee fighter though. I wonder if that silver ring Frieren thought about actually does anything.

We haven't seen explicitly magical items (aside from 'they somehow don't break') until this thing with the Hero's Sword though. Apparently it emits magic, so objects should be able to get enchanted.

A whole ten coppers for saving the world? So they got 1 copper per year. How generous.

At least put some sauce on that hamburger steak. I don't see any appeal in eating several pounds of unseasoned ground beef.

Was that a flashback to after or before, sounded like it was when they first started and the king didn't want to waste money on another party who fails. It wasn't a reward but a "here's a little something to help you get started".

Had to be something else added to the hamburger, she had to follow a recipe. I doubt it just said "cook 10lbs of beef".

Episode 13

Here comes Sein, who Frieren and company are looking at to join the party. So they make a bet with the village chief, and they lost to the chief, leaving Stark and Sein out in the cold in only their underwear. Sein is somebody who has long wanted to be an adventurer and is largely in it for the women, but as he got older he lost his motivation. The only thing that is keeping the possibility alive is the fact that his friend had gone missing for ten years, and he now assumes he's dead. But above all, he's staying put because of his brother, who is an accomplished priest in the village. So after getting a scolding from his brother, Sein has decided to become an adventurer, and become a temporary member of the party. It was a rather silly episode, but it does a great job establishing Sein's character as somebody who's wants to be an adventurer, but keeps on finding excuses not to be one, until now.

Kind of a nice change of pace to have a comedic episode, although I guess last week had some comedy as well.

That opening gag reminded me of the Johnny Depp stepping off the sinking boat at the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean and Sein kind of reminds me of Jack Sparrow in that movie...too bad that series took a nose dive after that.

Never fails to be lovely, this Anime. You could see where this episode's story was going from miles away but it was fun and engaging enough to be an entertaining episode.
Can't believe Sein and Stark lost their clothing and stuff twice and the gamblers were still nice enough to give their things back to them a 2nd time xD

Negatives: Frieren mentioned her master, Flamme, teaching her the seductive technique... but they didn't show us Flamme doing it! I need to see it!!! I must see it!!!

Frieren is inadvertently putting together this generation's party of heroes. Fern the Mage; who is her apprentice. Stark the Warrior; who is Eisen's apprentice. Now, Sein the Priest; who is somewhat connected to Heiter. With this trend, I'm thinking that we will meet and pick up this generation's Hero later in this series; who will likely have a connection to Himmel if the trend continues.

I found it amusing that Eisen might have given Frieren a misleading perspective on close combat fighters. As a seasoned warrior and a dwarf, Eisen appeared to be the quite the resilient tank for the group. Resilient enough to even mitigate effects of poison and other ailments. With this is mind, I could see why Frieren didn't extensively develop her abilities in healing magic.
