I don't hate the other girls, but Tenri was special. She was there for Keima from the very beginning and waited for him for 10 years. Without her, nothing would be possible. So, I think Tenri should have won in the end.She deserved at least this much.

They all deserved to be one, especially Tenri. I also didn't like that weird approach where ending it with someone he mistakenly approached and dumped in the end, then came back to her to make her as the true best girl)

P.S. Since you already added a spoiler tag in the title, there's no need for you to use spoiler tags for your comments.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Tenri is the only girl of relevance in the final arc. It makes no narrative sense for anyone else to have been picked.

Japan hates childhood friends. That's why Tenri lost.

As for why worst girl won, well, author preference.

If I had a nickel for every time the adorable dandere lost for a terrible girl just because said terrible girl is the author's type, I would have two nickels.

Honestly, this is the finest example of literary vs sympathy thing. Chihiro is thematically the perfect choice. She's the "real life girl" and the one Katsuragi had the most trouble with from the start. From the writing perspective, it can only be her.

That said, if you have a heart at all, you'd pick Tenri.

For me this series ended with the goddess arc, which was covered by the 3rd season of the anime. I'd rather have an ending where Keima picks no one over what we got in the manga.

@JustMonaka Haqua kinda fits it too as a nice compromise between 'real' and not real, though I guess Haqua was never conquered so Chihiro wins out. There is also the Elsie aspect that totally rules her out of the ending too.

I agree. When I finished the manga, I was heartbroken, but I still love this manga very much because it gave me many good memories.
