(Anime only) Geto theory spoilers for up to episode 5 of season 2, 0, and season 1

I do think it's one of the first things said in both the anime/manga (correct me if I'm wrong) but, there is a saying that when you kill someone (especially a sorcerer), it must be with a cursed technique / cursed tool, otherwise the residual cursed energy (which increases near death) might result in a cursed spirit

Another thing is that they must keep an eye on a dying sorcerer to ensure they don't become a curse, gojo's mistake was leaving geto to die without confirming/waiting for geto to actually die
