Does the original show or the newer movies like “you are (not) alone” have a better adaptation of the manga? Like which is truer?

OG anime got manga after the anime adaptation. Even the spin off movies are technically still canon and still in the same universe of the OG series. In all aspects the anime is better than the manga.

But yeah the OG series and movie series are the same world because EoE’s water turned red and movie series water is also red. So yeahhh
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

It is an anime original so they aren’t adapted from the manga. If I am not mistaken the anime the movies and the manga are all very different. Basically you watch the og and then the end of eva movie and then you watch the reboot movies. You can probably read the manga after that if you want cause I’m pretty sure it is slightly different from the other too.

You have to watch both the show and the movies because they are all canon.
Watch order,
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV)
End of Evangelion (movie)
Then alternate movie series
You can also read the manga which is the adaption of the original show.

Eva is anime original. The manga came out after the og anime, so neither.

It’s not an adaptation of the manga. The manga is a manga adaptation of the anime

90s Anime + End of Evangelion is the original and by far the best version of Eva. The Manga was technically released before, but only because of how long TV series take to produce. The show began work first and so it's actually the manga which is the adaption. The rebuild movies are shallow cashgrabs that came out a decade later to milk money off of the franchise for its new owners.

Technically the Manga came first but it was just a promotional product for the Anime anyway. Some stuff is different though

The manga copied the show. Not the other way around

Technically yeah but it was such a weird way to do it, especially with the way the manga was published over time so for all purposes I consider the anime to be original but you’re right.

The manga is an adaptation of the anime though.

Neon genesis (the anime) was the original, the manga released after some episodes of the anime and ended after 3.0 release i think.
So no, the anime isnt a adaption, the manga is a adaption of the anime, i know it is kinda strange, but thats it.

I love the original series more, but the manga is good as well.
Rebuild series is very bad, but by your question, maybe it is more "faithfull" to the manga.

The anime IS the original. The Manga originally was an adaptation of the anime and the Movies are a sequel to the anime.

All of the parts of EVA (the anime/movies the Mangas and other spinoffs) are canon and are all separate stories with the newest movie Evangelion 3.0+1.0 being the end to all of it.

That said the main series is only the anime + the movies while the rest is kind of side content AUs (which are technically still canon because reasons but not actually required to read).

So just start with the original series. then watch end of Evangelion (which is the end to the original series) and then watch the rebuild movies (1.0 2.0 3.0 and 3.0+1.0. There's also directors cut versions of these movies called 1.11 2.22 3.33 and 3.0+1.01 but the differences are very small)
