I am a bit confused about FMA & FMAB. What is the difference between these two shows? Should I watch both? Is FMA related to FMAB? Is FMAB a sequel of FMA? Or what? πŸ€”

Thanks in advance :)

No...FMAB is not a sequel...The problem with FMA is the ending that doesn't follow the manga.
FMAB is true to manga.
I've watched both and i prefer the FMAB ending more.

Fma was made first and had a different ending because it was ahead of the manga, Fmab followed the mangas ending
They have the same beginning but branch off after a certain point I'm pretty sure
FMAB has the better ending and is better quality (probably because it was made after)
You can watch both if you want, that's what I did.
I watched Fmab first then fma.
All opinions are valid, unless they hurt people. Or suck.

FMA strayed from the manga due to the manga still running at the time while FMA:B stays true to the manga. Imo I prefer FMA over FMA:B. FMA has a darker and more serious tone and no unnecessary, tone ruining comedy like FMA:B. But I still love both. I reccomend you watch FMA then FMA:B first, you get to see the beginning that FMA:B rushed through and FMA:B introduces the characters like you know them already, which you would if you watched FMA. Also I recommend the dub, it's pretty good.

The thing that most people miss out on watching is the movie "Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa", it is the actual ending to the 2003 series, and it's quite good, at least in my opinion.
I recommend watching the 2003 series first because it does an amazing job at adapting the first part of the story, then watch the movie and finally Brotherhood, it'll be an unforgettable experience.

Watch FMA 2003 first followed by it's conclusion movie "Conqueror of Shamballa" then watch FMAB. This is the best way to experience this series in my opinion.

Both the shows were adapted from the same manga and have a similar start but are essentially different shows with their own stories and are equally enjoyable.

I second this and would recommend FMA > Conqueror of Shamballa > FMAB as the watch order as well. There’s some things the original series gave more time and weight to thanks to it having a slower pace for some earlier parts, so it’s definitely worth it to not skip it.

For the short answer: Just watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood without watching s1(Fullmetal Alchemist)

The 03 version was the first adaptation, however since the manga wasn't finished at the time, it wen't in a diffrent direction.
Brotherhood is more faithfull to the manga, and it's tecnicly a remake of the 03 version.

Imo: the 03 version covers the earlier parts of the manga better.
So i recommend watching the 03 version before brotherhood

FMA and FMAB are different shows telling the same story but with two completely different outcomes , most people will tell you to skip the og but if you wanna have the best experience, watch both of them . Both were really successful in Japan and both are considered Masterpieces . So watch FMA first then FMAB , As soon as you are done watching FMA , remember FMAB's story starts at the same place as FMA 2003 but there are so many differences , it won't be wrong to call them two different shows .

Definitely watch fma before fmab. Fma (episode 30+) is all anime original content where as fmab is all adapted from the manga. Fmab is 100% better but in order to truly enjoy it and understand what’s going on you’ll want to watch the 2003 show first. Brotherhood is meant for people who have already seen fma or read the manga.

Don't watch FMA. You can directly watch FMAB. You will not like the ending of FMA. It's not according to manga.

No FMAB is not a sequel. FMA and FMAB are both anime adaptations of the same manga story. The main difference is
FMAB follows the manga story much closer and is a lot more faithful than the original FMA which added a lot of extra stuff as well as a completely made up ending from the manga. If you want the truest experience of how the story originally was go watch FMAB. You don’t need to watch FMA unless you really want to but do it after you’ve watched FMAB. Movies are not necessary and they kind of suck anyway.

FMA cover ups the first chapter's of manga and after that anime only story continuously follows in 0'3 version. If u watch only FMAB u also will cover the whole Manga. But i highly suggest you to watch 0'3 version first this version done better job in starting. After all it's your choice to Watch only FMAB or also watch this.

P.S:- If u want to watch this version also then watch the sequel movie of this version.

Watch them both at the same time. Either switch back and forth every episode or use two TVs simultaneously. I'm joking of course but you could watch a few episodes of each to see which one you like more and then stick with that. I don't think it's that big of a deal. If you like one, you'll probably watch both eventually anyway.

Basically the manga wasnt finished and the anime had to finish so they made their own ending, while brotherhood is more true to the manga, however brotherhood skips a lot of the earlier stuff because they assumed you watched the original, so some will say to just watch brotherhood because it's better and more faithful, I'd recommend watching both as you will be less confused than just jumping straight into brotherhood and honestly both a great shows, I'd say the original is still better than most anime out there.

The only thing I want to add on is that FMA '03 is not the rushed cash grab people make it out to be. People act like it ran out of source material and had to make up the rest on the fly and that is not the case. The creators of the show knew they couldn't adapt the full story and set out from the start to create an original story that followed the manga to a point and then did it's own thing, and they did so with Arakawa's blessing. The show actually starts to diverge pretty early on and only loosely follows the part of the manga it did adapt.

It's very much it's own story and should be treated as such.
