I finished watching the orginal Hunter x Hunter like 2 months ago, and I really enjoyed it. I would give it an 8.4/10 rating tbh. But the question is: will I like the 2011 version more than the 1999 version? Is it really better? And why is it better? Please explain. & thank you :)

If I have to give only one reason it would be “chimera ant arc” alone it's just that good but overall 2011 has better animation,2 more arcs, and in my opinion one of the best soundtracks in anime, etc

2011 is better cuz of VA, animation + it has adapted more, but something better about the old version is that they added a bit more screen time to kite
MY OPINION IS OBJECTIVELY CORRECT

I would definitely watch the 2011 version even after seeing the older one. It has a chimera ant arc which is considered to be one of the best arc in history and the arc after it is also great and closes the story very well.

Idk, I'd choose both. 2011 has 2 additional arcs and the animation is so much better. 1999 has so many fillers but I enjoyed every bit of it tbh (1999 Kurapika was waaay funnier lol)

Since the 2011 version is more Canon, I'd go with that one. Stay true to the original story.

I’ve heard the 2011 version is better overall, but there’s something about the tone of the 1999 version that the 2011 version is missing or something like that. And I heard 1999 did some other things better than 2011, even if the 2011 version is better. So I’m just planning on watching both of them. Oh and like the person above me said, the 2011 version is apparently way more faithful to the manga. I also heard there are only like 2 filler episodes

2011 ver is toned down, doesn't have as much atmosphere as the 1999 ver. no origian material in the anime to further flesh out the characters either, but the animation and pacing is better and smoother with barely any filler in the '11 ver

Should've included a "only seen one of them" option for remotely helpful poll results.

I’ve watched all the 2011 version of Hxh and very little of the 1999 version so of course i’d choose the 2011 version, to me the voice acting is better and of course the quality of the animation is better but the 1999 version really captures the emotion of the characters, especially for Kurapika.

the simple reason why 2011 is better is because it adapted the chimera ant arc as well (imo, the best shoumen arc).
I did feel that the atmosphere in the original hxh was fantastic during the yorknewcity arc, but 2011 was also great so no complaints ig.

2011 adapts far more of the manga in a more up to date art style basically.

It's perfect from start to finish

If you go to any "best arc in HxH" thread, you'll find that the Chimera Ant arc wins almost every time.

2011 has the Chimera Ant arc, 1999 doesn't, so roughly the most beloved part (according to the community) in HxH is in the 2011 version.

1999 for the parts that were adapted (i'm excluding OVAs). I don't think 2011 was a good adaptation actually. Yes, it has good animations and not much filler, but the coloring, the tidy and bright art-style, the soundtrack, everything ruined the atmosphere. Also the characterization of Killua, Gon and Hisoka are ruined by the pacing in the first part, censorship (first part is way more censored than 1999, and sometimes in a really dumb way, like first Hisoka appearance, sometimes in a weird/ugly-looking way, like Killua vs Jones), nerfed looks, and the changed appearance itself (like Killua is mainly shown in his "cute" version, in the manga he felt way more ambivalent since the beginning, making the development of his relationship with Gon way more impactful). I think that despite the fillers and all the 1999 version was more loyal to the spirit and mood of the manga, that imo remain by far the best version of HxH.
