I liked this movie and that but I didn’t really get emotional and it was somehow just an 8 for me. It wasn’t bad at all but I definitely expected more…

As someone who is easily entertained and somehow loves tearjerkers, this was the movie/anime that affected me the least emotionally. Well, it doesn’t do much compared to 5 centimetres per second, your name or plastic memories. Still a masterpiece and a great experience imo

Also you wont really get emotional to it bc you already knew she was gonna die bc of her illness, it just she died so early and the cause of her death is not her illness

you actually didnt cry at anohana? Damn. I think most of the people who've watched that anime cried, i mean the ending is just so sad man, the song at the ending made it even more emotional. But i aint judging you.

I didn't cry in Anohana, not sure how one could with that constant sad tone to it, it was more like "oh hey you should feel sad that these characters are feeling down about themselves thanks to an incident that happened years ago.". I did cry during A Silent Voice, Clannad ~After Story~ and a few others.

I also didn't cry in this film despite how great this film is, alone it's a 9. Would of been a 10/10 if it wasn't for the fact that the ending is so random it made me confused rather then cry. Really horrible story writing, there is so many better ways the ending could of gone then that.

Has a 8.60 mean score

For me it gave that shock factor that pushed me over the edge. You expect something to happen but it turns out very differently. Sure it is random, but it is something that could happen. The emotional part for me was them having zero closure, they were building up to the goodbye and stripped me that which hit me pretty hard.

Yea I felt the same although I thought it was great, any tearjerkers or just depressing anime don’t give me that emotional impact like people hype it up to be.

I think I was way too hyped for this and got a little disappointed. I thought for sure I would cry in this one but at the end I thought this was just good, nothing too great about it to be compared to Kimi no Nawa or Koe no Katachi.

It's this and a few others that try to have the emotional stuff be its driving force, but it seems to cover up the rest of the problems in the process.

This movie made me bawl my eyes out, it’s the fact that she was already dying which is sad as it is but then she gets killed and dies cause of a completely different thing is what really hit me, I can understand that you expected more since I wished the mcs got a little closer or gave us more I felt their chemistry was kinda off but regardless of that I still cried so hard

I didn't cry during the anime but I certainly did when I first read the manga. The plot twist at the end was just so sudden and cruel, it did deliver the message that death doesn't care about what people want and expect. There is also this nice video about this anime made by Gigguk that goes trough some nice points what made this anime to be not something I could easily forget. I gave it a 8/10, but that's still a very good score. And I would advice you it's better to not get hyped up by what other people say.

For me it was probably the ending, just because of how sudden it was, I didn’t cry but all the scenes prior to the ending does make the ending even more sadder. Still a solid 8/10.

It wasn't much emotional for me either and it's an 8 for me too ...but the part that got me was the way she died...I she was already ill and then to die on her way to meet him by getting stabbed and the sudden breakdown of the news wearing the mc away was the main highlight for me!!! Overall awesome movie and enjoyed it....

I genuinely think it was slightly overrated like it just didn't have the elements to make me sad much less cry. This movie portrayed the character developement of the protagonist which was solid. I'd give this movie a solid 8.

Same, dude. I thought I was the only one. I think the problem is the fact it was a movie and not a series. When you introduce two strangers, one of whom is dying, you can't develop those characters and their relationship in only 109 minutes (equivalent to 4.5 episodes). Contrast this with Your Lie in April, you really got to learn each character's story and personality inside and out, and watched them grow together over 22 episodes. It felt like a real journey and a real loss.

I can tell they tried to do something similar in this movie with the MC coming out of his shell and the surprise death toward the end, but it just didn't land the same way because I didn't feel like I really got to know them enough to care. The tragedy almost felt heavy-handed and forced, as if the director were telling me "cry, goddammit!"

Edit: Not saying it's utterly impossible to pull it off within the runtime of a feature film, as A Walk to Remember (not an anime but meh) did a fairly decent job presenting a similar scenario, but it's difficult nonetheless. Don't get me wrong, I Want to Eat Your Pancreas was a good movie, it just wasn't an outstanding one, and perhaps never could have been even if it were executed more thoughtfully. I'd have loved to see it as a series, however.

yeah this describes it pretty much exactly. not for everyone i guess, but having the rug pulled out from under you hits harder for me because it feels more real. even if you think you have a handle on it, death usually comes sooner than you expect. it's untidy, blind, and not there to give you closure.

honestly i expected way more. I mean we already expected that Sakura was gonna die in the beginning of the movie so it was much of a shock. If that didn't got revealed in the first place, i would have a greater chance of crying for the unexpected.
