The majority of the movie was alright, I dislike the comedy but the dream sequences were cool and ofc the action was cool. I read the arc in the manga afterwards and realized they paced it differently because there wasn't actually that much to adapt and I prefered most of it in the manga. BUTTTTT... the fight scene between Rengoku and Akaza was fucking fantastic and one of the best fight scenes in anime I've ever seen and bumped my feelings about the movie up by a bit.

Humor wasn’t for me, rengoku’s humor was some of the most annoying shit I’ve ever seen. I also felt like everyone but tanjiro and rengoku’s dreams were really disappointing since we know very little about boar kid and the flash. Also since rengoku came and went so quickly I didn’t care when he died so the emotional impact was lost for me, the fact a lot of people cried and praised rengoku after watching it is really kinda strange for me. The villain was mid and pretty stock standard “I’m crazy demon abahaha and I’m werid”
However tanjiro and rengokus steam sections are really fucking good. The animation was all very good but the cgi train demon stuff felt a bit bizarre when everything else was very stylized. And although I didn’t connect with rengoku, his dream sequence and background were just as strong as tanjiro and any other demon slayer. That final fight was obviously very good, tanjiros was a bit disappointing though. Nezuko was cute, really liked that we got to see more of her in human form via tanjiros dream.

What did they alter from the manga? I liked the film but felt like they could've chopped away 10-15 minutes and the movie would've been better for it. The first half kind of dragged, as did the fight scenes as cool as they were.

I think they added in more dialogue and made the dream sequences a lot longer, they just padded everything to make it longer. One example is that in the manga it cuts directly from them encountering Rengoku eating on the train to Rengoku telling Tanjirou "sorry I don't know anything about the fire dance" while in the movie it shows the whole process of him sitting down and beginning to talk to him and also his inner monologue about what he was going to ask Rengoku.

I enjoyed it lots. The Akaza vs Rengoku fight was easily the biggest highlight from the movie and rengoku really left a big impact despite not having a large amount of screentime

Well the comedy wasn't just fitting in the scene for me. That is the only nitpick I can come up with.
One flaw was with the CGI. It was good but just felt overly animated for the movie.
Like you know too good for the movie.

Rengoku‘s death hurt a lot, especially after all the character development he got (how well we got to know him) through out the movie.

It was great, as manga reader I did understand everything not only what's happening in movie but also why is it happening. I'm sure all anime only will re consider to rate the movie after last arc get adapted.

Literally just finished watching the sub 5 mins ago. I thought it just felt like a really long normal episode for the first hour and a half. Some funny bits, dream sequences were neat. Then the last half hour was fucking great!! Loved the final fight, cried for the whole last 10 mins. Meanwhile, my husband next to me was practically falling asleep and said "meh it wasn't that good" at the end lmao.

Good movie. Not particularly attached to Rengoku since i see him more as a symbol to look up to rather than a person. Looked beautiful on the big screen though

The first half was definitely a bit slow but as the movie progressed it got better. When rengoku was dying that was the best part for me as I was really able to connect with the characters and feel their emotions. Overall it's a great movie and the animation is so crisp I could've cried over that too.

The first 3/4 of the movie were kind of sleep (literally) in my opinion. After reading the manga first and then watching the movie, the lower 1 fight felt really drawn out to me. However, the rengoku vs akaza fight was one of the most beautiful anime fights I’ve very watched and it really raised the overall enjoyability of the movie.

I just wrote a review on it in my sig but tldr it was some amazing movie.

What I don't understand is why people would hate on this because of the story, since to me, with this being in a movie format and focusing on visuals, it didn't seem to care too much as to what the story was about lmao.

I did enjoy it but not as much as the original series. As someone who has read the manga i think it’s a good transition from what it was before into what it is now including more of the e pillars and upper moons.

Didn't expect a lot considering how basic the writing is in DS but I was still disappointed tbh. It was great animation wise, but it didn't feel like peak Ufotable. People kept on hyping up Rengoku vs Akaza but I honestly wasn't that impressed, probably because it was just 10 minutes of Akaza saying "Become a demon, become a demon," and didn't really work well with Ufotable's fast- paced fight sequences. Even animation wise, the special effects and compositing were great, but it didn't look much better than certain fights from the anime to me.

Also Emu was an extremely bland antagonist, the dream seqeunces could've been used to give some depth to Inosuke and Zenitsu, and Rengoku dying was extremely predictable and unnecessary.

It was fun to watch but that was honestly just it.

the reason why people cried for Rengoku because he was relatable when it came to his father and family

I thought it was mid at best. The final battle did everything it could to save the film but the mid section was chalk full of squandered potential and shit tier CGI. As a big fan of the show I was pretty disappointed. The hype going in was real, but from the weak gag dreams of zenitsu and inosuke to the devolvement of the plot from a dream based demon blood magic user to a CGI demon train??? (And more) was just... well... disappointing. I left scratching my head wondering what the hell just happened. My favorite studio... one of my favorite shounen... one mess of a disappointing film IMO.

I didn't really feel that much with Rengoku's death because he didn't really get that much screen time and we basically only saw him in the last few episodes of the anime.

It also felt kind of random because that other demon that fought Rengoku kinda just showed up randomly and made the first fight have even less impact than it did.

Idk the whole thing felt overly dramatic and I rolled my eyes at Tanjiro's dream state and how his purity brought the kid to tears and all that. Though, the killing yourself thing to get out of that state was pretty cool, especially when he went to attack the guy and kept doing it.

Also, why didn't the guy just attack them while they were in that sleep state? I mean the kids after failing to get into their souls or whatever, ended up just trying to attack them anyway.

Started of little slow. It felt like an anime episode at the beginning, but was great in the second half; especially after the dream sequences. The final fight was beautifully animated. I wish we could have had more scenes of Rengoku and the others protecting the train.

I don't know why people are complaining about the CG. ufotable had used similar CG for the Holy Grail in the Fate series. I don't see how it could be done better with current technology and it wouldn't have been fluid if it was hand drawn. It also would have been a pain in the ass to draw.

The writing was standard for shonen anime. The first villain didn't really have any real motivation or backstory and in the greater narrative, he was probably there to show us the large gap between the Lower Moon and the Upper moon demons which our protagonists will have to overcome sooner or later. I don't know why the upper demon suddenly appeared, maybe we would get the answer in the new season or something.

9/10, Because +1 for animation quality. The IMAX experience was great too, especially the sound.
