This is not important, but just an observation I've made. I was surprised to find that Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2 is only on 373,900 MAL members' lists while debut animes such as Horimiya (448,068 members) and Jujutsu Kaisen (802,710 members) stand at much higher numbers. I totally get that there is big hype surrounding these animes, as they are the stars of the Winter 2021 season, but I can't help but think that Re:Zero is somehow losing its influence. Have fans been sticking around less? Is there something being done differently? Feel free to add your input on this useless thought of mine!

You're already wrong when you decided to use MAL as basis for popularity.

bro popularity is based on how much it s popular in japan and rezero in 2020 was the most watched thing on netflix in japan. and check on youtube rezero season 2 part one opening and ending have 10million for opening and forgot the other but the point is it is getting popular.it was even trending on twitter so have patience and next episode also have the potential to top this episode if done better.

Right! I did note that. I was seeing how Attack on Titan was on their last season and had plenty of members, but Re:Zero was trailing behind heavily. I guess maybe the comparison is out of the question since one is way more popular than the other.

Oh yeah, you're definitely right about that. MAL is not a valid demonstration of popularity. Society's watch ranks are. Also, thanks for sharing those numbers since personally I have never followed Re:Zero's performance in Japan so that's interesting. Just seeing how this is a popular forum site, I was thinking it would have more members following the series on here.

Because Re Zero is only for special people like us. Not everyone can understand the greatness behind these dialogues and 30min ep we get and so little content cut from light novels. But Re Zero is starting to gain popularity it has highest premier karma in history of weekly polls in reddit (except for aot). Its also doing great in AniTrendz polls by maintaining its top2 spot sometimes top3and even top1 2 times. This week we got the very first episode which made it to the #21 highest rated episodes on Imdb.
We just need to keep supporting this masterpiece.

Yes! We have to keep supporting the masterpiece that is Re:Zero. I second that statement. The most recent episode was definitely amazing and I'm still thinking about it. I think I'm just bitter about the member number on here being low because I want more people to represent Re:Zero on their profiles haha. The number of members compared to other animes on here baffled me. Those ranks are impressive! As someone else stated, Re:Zero performs quite well on the charts in terms of views and what not. I hope to see more of this show for a long time :')

I don’t know if it’s not as popular but something feels off about the pacing and setting of the second part of Re:Zero. Like I really love the show but I feel like they are focusing way to much on the past and the trials. A couple off episodes have been straight up flashbacks and delving way too much into the past, we were even getting to the point that we were having flashbacks within flashbacks. IMO while the finishing point of the second season is quite obvious, I feel like the show eased off too much on return by death. I have not a doubt in my mind that in the whole second part of season 2 Subaru will not undergo another reset. Even if he does the reset point will have to change. All this has at least for me, taken a great deal of suspense out of the show which was what made season 2 part 1 amazing. In season 2 part 1 there were multiple times where I genuinely thought Subaru would survive and you could both see and feel his frustration and mental state deteriorating as the show went on. The first part even had a solid message for Subaru to learn from. However for the season two part two I can’t see this going any other way. In summary the past has been focused on way too much. It felt like to develop Emilia as a character we put most of the story on hold and I think it’s killing the shows pacing

The series isn't only about RbD, deaths or suspense, at the end of the day, it's a character driven story that focused on growth and self-improvement, and this part has develop every single character present in this season.

I noticed that change too and I see where you’re coming from with that. I must say I miss those moments from season one of Subaru waking up from a reset and panicking about what the future holds. It was thrilling to see those scenes with the return by death and it kind of kept us all on the edges of our seats. I think the past is important and season two is doing a decent job of giving that to us. Personally, I greatly enjoy seeing Emilia’s character development along with the development of other characters (Otto, Garf, and so on). I have seen many viewpoints on the pacing and they vary greatly from what I’ve observed. I suppose we will all have to see what the anime adaptation will serve us in these upcoming episodes.

Well jjk topped rezero’s number of views worldwide and some weeks it even tops Aot’s weekly numbers in some countries. As of openings and endings, it’s the same: jjk is one of the most popular if not the most popular anime rn (excluding AoT).

I honestly know quite a bit of people who have dropped re:zero. I almost did too. I love season 1 but season 2 part was a bit lacking for me although looks like I'm loving part 2 more. So I think your idea that it might be losing influence is kinda true. Re:zero is not for everyone.

well knY ONLY have god tier animation but dororo plot is way better than knY whereas jujutsu no kaisen is doing great on its own and i am happy but other than that rezero for being an isekai have been standing equal to equal with these great anime and i see it getting more fanbase in future due to godly arcs which are arc5 and arc6

I think this is the reason Re:Zero will never be as popular as something like AoT. It's still pretty popular and successful, but it's not exactly mainstream like a few others.

Probably just not as popular in the west. Definitely massive in Japan. MAL is also a bad place to look but it’s still a good reference, I’d say more people are probably watching horimiya and kaisen regardless because they’re new

That’s a good point you make. Animes like Re:Zero have super detailed plots which could be hard to understand. I can see how this can discourage new viewers or result in people dropping it. Horimiya and Jujutsu are fairly easy to comprehend at face so it would make them easier to follow. Happy to be part of the western Re:Zero community haha

I can see that being true. There’s definitely evidence as well to demonstrate the difference in Re:Zero popularity in Japan compared to other regions. MAL is like Wikipedia in a sense. Good for fast information but not so good for research!
