| Inio Asano and some other mangakas have been doing it for a long time. Recently, a lot of other popular mangakas have also started using this technique. Personally, I was never a big fan of it. Using photos as reference is fine, but directly using them with a few modifications in the manga (even if it reduces the workload) feels very out of place for me if not done correctly. What do you think about it? |

| I don't mind as long as they've been filtered to match the manga style. Drawn backgrounds almost always look much better, but at the same time I recognize that mangaka have time constraints, or it's just not "worth" spending much time on a background. Sometimes, though, it's clear that the photo's perspective is off compared to the characters', or the real people in the image are more bulky than the manga characters. That looks bad. |
| I haven't read much manga. The only one I've read that did this was Read or Die. I thought it made that manga look a bit more unique and interesting, although I imagine I'll become desensitized to it pretty quickly when I read more manga... |

| Feels a little lazy when they just use converted photos rather than just draw it but I understand they have deadlines and I am not against use of references to copy by hand. It's okay if they use photos directly but it stops them from being better artists if overused. |
