Not really, no. Forums themselves are pretty much dying out. MAL is still decently big due to the overall site's popularity. Most Anime discussion these days takes place on Reddit, Twitter, and certain Anime Discords.

Nah, it seems MAL is the last stand for active anime forums nowadays.

Why though? I find the discussion on r/anime to be much more interesting and entertaining than MAL. Not to mention it seems more active and there also exists separate subreddits for individual shows. I also rarely see spoilers on reddit since those posts are quickly downvoted and hidden whereas on MAL by the time a mod spoilers the post the damage is done.

Nah, they're just being 'eaten up' by reddit and various imageboards. Forums are still very much a thing, just a bit more obscure.

Which is my point. There are plenty of Forums still around (I use several), but they're far from the activity they used to have. They'll definitely always be a thing most likely, but social media outlets will continue to be a preference amongst a majority of people for the foreseeable future.

It's not that they're a 'preference', per se. Rather, it's forums being filtered out due to quora's and reddit's mechanism. A lot of big forums are still just as active and the only ones that are really hurting are smaller communities that are basically non-existent due to how lackluster search engines are nowadays. I honestly believe that a good portion of people would still prefer a good forum over something like reddit or twitter.

Discord doesn't really affect forums as much as it affects other real-time chat systems like IRC's and those generic sidebar chats. From my experience, a lot of them don't have any meaningful conversations and all narrow down to mindless shitposting - which is what public chat's should be imho.

because they only talk about idividual shows and 90% of the time it's currently airing shows. well it isn't completely trash tbh but for me this is unninteresting and a waste.

Very true about Discord. It's mostly aimed at time-wasting. I always compare Discord chats to a big crowd of teenagers - everyone screams, makes vulgar jokes and faces and whoever is the loudest is the "winner", even, though, you don't want to be a winner or a loser and just want to talk.

Reddit is even worse. If you happened to have an unpopular opinion, they'll treat you like a heretic.

By the way, I heard that Twitter wants to remove the "like" feature, so maybe it will be a better place soon? Who knows.
