Hi, I want to start by saying that i have seen a good bit of anime but I have only a couple shows or movies blew me away. I try to look on here for suggestions but I can never get too far in a lot of shows or movies.

I think im just picky. The biggest turn offs for me is overuse of stereotypical anime tropes and constant fan service or sexual content. I'm 30 years old and it just does not appeal to me at all. There have been some I can get through because I enjoyed the plot ex. Ghost in the shell, but I tend to try to stay away from it because it just makes me not feel like watching it.

My list of favorite shows and movies:
Serial experiments lain, paranoia agent, perfect blue, paprika, GITS 1 and 2 (SAC and 2nd gig were good half the time), steam boy(this one was an oddball for me but the action really got me into it.), Cowboy Bebop

The ones I enjoyed overall, but found parts that I didn't enjoy as much due to reasons mentioned above:
Princess mononoke, ergo proxy, wicked city, Ninja scroll, berserk, Monster(waaay too long, got Into it for a bit but couldn't finish), texnolize(little boring at times), Akira(gritty)

There might be more but I can't remember at the moment. If you recommend one I forgot and know I enjoyed, ill add it to the list. I feel like I have ran out of anime but I am sure there is plenty I missed.

As you might notice, I am pretty new and unaware to a lot of the anime that exist out there. I only got into it a couple years ago and know no one that likes it. I mostly find stuff by stumbling around on google.

I came across this one searching for more. I don't think I tried it because the first thing I noticed was the art style of the characters. I may try it though since you recommend it.

I think you might like Zankyou no Terror. It's was directed by the same person as Cowboy Bebop. It's quite short; Only 11 episodes, but it really makes you think afterwards about the characters actions and their logic behind things afterwards. It's one of my favourites =)

Try the ones with the Western feel I guess. Those are the ones you've mostly named. So Gangsta, 91 days, and Baccano. The upcoming Vinland Saga adaptation will hopefully be good.

Or something scifi like Planetes and Uchuu Kyoudai.

I saw some of death note. Was not the worse but I didn't end up finishing it. The plot did not hold me. I like dark and or philosophical, but this one just seemed to fall a little short for me.

I have heard of Code Geass but the art style of the characters made me think it would not be worth my time if I tried to find it. What aspects of it do you think I would enjoy if I tried it?

I forgot to add cowboy bebop at the top. I especially liked the Mad Periot or whatever that episode was called.

Thank you, I think the trailers looked like they were worth trying out. Except maybe not the first one. But we will see.

I can't say too much about code geass since I've only seen the first 2-3 episodes, but tbh by the ratings and reviews I assume it's good especially after watching the first few episodes. It relates to death note in some ways (like his powers) expect not so dark, from what I can tell...

I have other ones too:

91 days - Another one of my favourites, set in the time of prohibition.
Boku Dake ga Inai Machi - A man has the power to go back in time to prevent the death of someone who changes everything.
Steins;Gate - An interesting view on the effects that decisions make on the past and present
Death Note - From the point of view of the antagonist

Devilman Crybaby on Netflix was SOOOOO good, and totally different from those super lame ridiculous anime out there that the young people love to watch.
