I would like an anime or manga similar to Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii, that is to say, a(n) anime/Manga with romance, a magical element, good character development, and an emotional tragedy of some sort. I’ll keep the examples short, but make sure to check if I’ve already seen it.

Hmm, try Gosick. It has romance, great character development and is emotional towards the end, it has magical elements as mystery which are solved by the FL, so there is no magic rather trickery involved.
