I think when Near compared C-Kira to the original, he found himself comparing himself to the original L. I think that made him take the role of L more seriously, and question if he was up to it. I mean, at the end of the original story, he had pretty much admitted that, without Mello, he was below L.

And yea, I loved the way he handled it, too. He really did hate C-Kira, it seems.

Lastly...damn, Near is cute. o.o
