I thought this would be a useful topic to have up: a list of all the places (online or off!) you know that sell anime, manga, merchandise, figures, imports, heck even pocky or melonpan! It's always useful, as I'm always amazingly pedantic when I shop around... well anyway, post store names (and relevant contact details), site URLS, whatever, to make all our lives easier. ^^ (I must note, I'm not from a big city so most of my stuff is purchased online...)

Kinokuniya
500 George Street, Sydney, NSW 2000
Phone: (02) 9262 7996
---> My favourite place to get manga from when I'm down in Sydney, they have absolutely everything, and shipping's not too painful either if you're buying online.

Nyan Nyan (non-eBay site: here)
---> Great dealer of legit imports, you can get some really good deals in both their online store and their eBay store, so check them both out.

Yorokonde
---> Haven't actually bought from this site but it seems pretty good. They have a lot of .. well, everything, really. DVDs, manga, merch, whatever.

There's also the other misc places i.e. buying directly from madman, buying stuff from places like EBGames, JB Hi-Fi, etc. Well... as you can see I'm pretty low on stores and such (I import a lot of stuff from the US X.x), so post away!

BP. As in the fuel station. Seriously.

I walked in there, and they just had this tiny library of softcover books, about 4 feet wide and 5 feet tall. The whole top shelf was filled with manga! Specifically Mahou Sensei Negima! The even crazier thing? $4.50 a book, no joke. I was going to buy THE ENTIRE SHELF but I remembered that the manga still isn't finished (?) so I decided against it. It couldn't have been a madman release, but it was translated, so...maybe Tokyopop's work?

Ditto!

It's like $20 for a manga elsewhere

Guys, it was one at the Gold Coast, but it might be elsewhere, too. It wasn't a small one either. This was one of the HUGE highway BP's with all the restaurants and the gift shop, and the manga was in that shop.

*happyface*

I'll have to stop at one of those BP's when I go to the Gold Coast. I usually go there at least twice a year.

lol schoolies. I'm glad I'm not going. Besides, my parents bribed me away from going by getting me a puppy. :D

But back on topic-- think we should add a list of import (Japan/American) web-stores here too? Most of the stuff I buy comes from overseas... you can definitely get it a lot cheaper if you look around. Of course you kind of get owned in terms of shipping... and you can get screwed if you don't own multi-region DVD player etc.. but hey, it's always good to share the love around.

Wow, thanks for this topic, it's going to be useful!

I'm happy to see EzyDVD and JB Hi-Fi are both on here, because they have always been pretty good for me. I used to live in the middle of nowhere, so EzyDVD made it easy to build up my collection.

I was relying on JB Hi-Fi and (occasionally) Borders for my anime fix. That is, until I discovered Shin Tokyo the other day. For some reason I always thought it was a clothing store... I can't believe I never looked in there before. it's right next door to the JBs I frequent. Regardless, it's awesome good.

Which one!? I go down to the Gold Coast most weekends, I should like to pay this place a visit.

Also, Brisbanites, best place for manga is Ace Comics on Queen st. They're collection's amazing.

There's also a store at Sunnybank call JV Lazer City that sells a lot of Japanese anime DVD's, with subtitles. Although, they're all NTSC, but a PS2 fixes that problem.

You have to walk up about 2 flights of stairs, and there's a store called Egg Records, then another 2 flights and Ace Comics is at the top. From Queen st. it's basically just a door, but there's a sign on it that says Egg Records and Ace Comics.

Took me a while to find it, aswell. If you still have trouble, just ask someone that works in Queen st., I'm sure they'll know.

So let me see...

Since I'm going to Brisbane sometime this month (to check out the QANTM College), I'll have to find Ace Comics, JV Lazer City, Comics Etc and Daily Planet. Need to start saving up some more cash.

Edit: Because I fail at spelling. And...well...meh. I'm going to Brisbane tomorrow, so I felt like rechecking this thread.

There is a bookshop underneath Central Station in Sydney which has 5 manga for $10 deals. Though i've never actually been, i hear it's quite good. I'm going up this weekend for a look so i'll post back.

Checked out that shop under central. It's called the Basement, and it's not the greatest.. VERY limited selection, only 1 series I recognized and most of it is Manwha. Plus by the time I got there most of it was sold so it only had a table worth of manga left. Still picked up some cheap volumes from random series though. Hell who can say no to manga at that price even if it sucks and i have to download the 17 chapters before the volumes I purchased. >.>

For Perth-ians:
Empire Toys
Large selection of manga and figurines. 100% legit but mostly overpriced.
1/856 Hay St
Perth WA 6000
(08) 9485 2444

Tokyo Underground
Cheap merchandise, model evas/gundams etc. Beware of fakes.
816 Hay Street
Perth WA 6000
(08) 9226 3677

Both these stores are EXTREMELY hard to find unless you already know where it is.

Quality Comics
Manga and some merchandise. Haven't been there so can't comment on price/quality.
872 Hay Street
Perth WA 6000
(08) 9321 2168

Otherwise you've got JB Hi Fi for DVD/Blu-rays (the one on Hay St mall has the best selection)
Borders and Angus and Robertson also sell some manga and light novels (but you'll probably need to order it from them).

Enjoy

Also adding to the Brisbane area - there's a small shop in Fortitude Valley, I'm not quite sure what it's called but it has anime, figurines, k-drama etc.
On google maps it says its on 204 wickham street but that's not really accurate.
It's across a place called the Chopstix Arcade and a little to the right of a Pawnbrokers store (the store is kind of in a hall not on the street). It's really close to the valley station exit with escalators (when you exit, go straight past the win hing chinese herb food store).

Though really it's only worth going if you're in the area. Still has some great stuff.
