They have a good idea over at our affiliate. They are picking a show to watch and discuss together. I'd like to do the same here only cutting out all the rigamorole they have with the choosing. We'll just do movies available at YouTube. Quick, easy, painless. You won't have to commit to finding, downloading and watching a long drawn out show on a schedule. Just an hour or two for a movie sometime during the week.

I'll put up a new MOTW thread with a new movie every Wednesday night. Be here at that time and we can watch it together, but you don't have[/i[ to see it Wednesday night, we will keep it going all week, every week. If you're watching with us on Wednesday night pause the movie now and then and check the comments here and make your own. We might even work out a way to keep everyone sync'd up. What do you think?

I found a good one to start. It is The Sword of the Stranger.
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2418/Stranger:_Mukoh_Hadan
The story is set in the Sengoku period. A rounin called Nanashi (meaning 'nameless') saves a young boy Kotarou at an abandoned temple. Kotarou has no family, is pursued by a mysterious militia organization from China and hires Nanashi as his bodyguard. Amongst the men who pursue Kotarou is a man called Rarou, a skilled warrior with blond hair and blue eyes. He obeys an old man called Byakuran and is a member of the Chinese militia. Unlike his companions in the militia, he isn't serving any Emperor and just wants to fight with the strong.

Here is the YouTube video of the movie:

That's a pretty badass fight scene with the bandids at the begining - poor bastards never had a chance.

I saw this at the theater when the dub came out.

Watch up to the 9:20 mark - when the kid storms out of the temple.

I love the music for this. Very dramatic. I have the OST. The backgrounds are georgous, too. Looks like water color.

What did you think, even though you've already seen it.

EDIT

The music was good throughout the entire movie.

I don't really know what he said but his whole death scene looked like a Blade Runner tribute.

That was a great fight scene. I mentioned earlier how his Blondie's death seemed to be a tribute to Rutgar Hower's death in Blade Runner. "Time to die."

Actually they were unclear whether Nameless dies at the end. When I first saw it I came away with the impression that he did die.

@kemptz not sure if you were talking to me but when I said toss up I meant as in who was going to win.

I think he survived, the last scene was him and the boy riding off. I watched through the credits and there was nothing hinting at death. Now you got me thinking about it and here I was happy and content thinking he lived.

People say he died because of the blood on the snow. But cmon how man characters have bled and survived I feel like its not a good enough reason. Then they say because he closed his eyes. He was tired and wanted to rest! I mean cmon there are people animating this they want it to look real and believable its not like he's going to talk and laugh alll the way to town you know? I feel like we try to make things so cookie cutter that of since he closed his eyes that must mean he died you know? Blood on the snow can be symbolic for so many other things than death in the movie I just took it as something else maybe like a cleansing of his past or something you know?

I think its just how the person views it I guess but to me it looked very hopeful and very optimistic in regards to nameless' end!

With action anime I don't really think blood means anything anymore(usually)
Ichigo loses gallons every time he fight. This was slightly more realistic but not so much that I believe he died because of the blood. He probably closed his eyes because he was tired, don't forget he had to travel on foot and then fight.

I think they were purposely ambiguous about whether he lives.

Here's Rutger Hauer's Blade Runner death. Has to be one of the greatest death scenes ever filmed. It's a serious spoiler though, so don't watch if you haven't seen Blade Runner:

Incredible movie, I just wish Ridley Scott would stop screwing with it. There are, I think, seven different versions of the movie now.

For those of you who can do torrents, BakaBT has several versions in various resolutions including an English dub. Remember, you don't need to sign up for an account with BakaBT to download, in fact, it's advised that you don't unless you want to maintain a seed ratio.

As pointed out in the first post, it streams legally and free at YouTube. I didn't think the quality was bad either.
