Hey peeeople hows it goin??

I've always had a mixed opinion about the death note series, I think it's brilliant but at times i felt it dragged on a little too much and i wasn't really digging the whole near arc.

When i saw the first two live action films, i was very impressed. They not only lived up to the series, they surpassed my expectations and, in my opinion, are better than the series itself in a number of ways.

So i'm just wondering, what do you guys think?

Which do you prefer more, the series or the film adaptations?

hardly any film adaptation can beat animes,
animes can do more crazy things, and cgi kinda kills it if not done properly
and then anime hairstyles, and maybe even clothing are too, wild/crazy/odd for it to be in real life.

I think they both were about the same. Just like the series it all goes downhill

I also agree that more crazier things can be done in anime compared to live adaptation. A prime example would be Mirrai Nikki (Anime vs. Drama)

Yeah I own them both and think they're better than the actual series but about on the same level as the rewrites. The problem with Death Note for me is that after our favorite detective leaves the show things not only start to drag but the new characters are kind of irritating. I know they were his student but Near in particular feels like a copy.

I see what you mean. The Death Note films are some the only live action anime films i've seen and I definitely see how easily a movie adaptation of an anime can flop. Trust me. I've seen Dragonball Evolution. Garbage. Seriously.

It's rare for that kind of thing to be done well, if not ok and i just think that the death note films are a great example of live action anime movie done well. Also i thought the art direction was great in the films. It was all dark and moody, even if the crazy hair wasn't present lol

That's just my opinion. I understand what you mean though.

death note is easy to live action, all the producers need to do is worry about dressing up Ryuk, if he ever was seen in the live action.

gettogaara, funny you said that Near feels like a copy, because thats kind of the point.

Near and Mello are each successors to L in case anything happens to him. If something does one of the them takes over.

Except Near was a helluva lot more annoying than L, I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because he was a 10 year old brat (or whatever).

I agree, I liked Death note live action's ending way better than the anime ending. Near and Mello arc should have never existed.

zerotenshigg, have you seen the live action films?
If not i highly recommend them.

Death note is definitely a serious anime. Nothing really over the top. So it is easier to emulate in a film than a lot of other animes.

The series for sure. Most of the live action actors didn't suit their roles.

I think for me that only applies to the actor who played light. He really didn't suit the role.
Other than that i thought most of the acting was good.

Fujiwara Tatsuya was alright, imo. I saw death note live action after I saw battle royale (he was shuya), so maybe that's why

Honestly I don't know if its a rule or not, but try not to double/multi post.....
It just leaves a bad impression, at least with me...

Does anyone know if it is a rule not to multi post?

Well yeah, that's why I said I know they were his students lol. The thing is Mello was his own person and while he had similarties to L in their way of thinking, he did things his own way. Near might as well have been a younger clone of L. Neither of them felt particuraly neccesary though. I feel like L should have left some sort of evidence that led to Light's arrest that way they defeated each other.

Ruyk CGI was awesome.
The rest was okay.
I am not a fan of Mello or Near either, but i prefer the Anime ending to the live action one.

I do believe that near and mello are an interesting concept for characters but they arent utilized that well in the series.

Thats a great idea. It would have been awesome if L left eveidence for the others. I love that.

I definitely preferred the anime over the live-action. I actually rather liked the second half of the anime and such as well. As far as live-action adaptations of anime/manga, I think they did a pretty good job with Death Note though.

I think the Live Action was okay, but acting was horrible... But the Anime series all the waaay.

Saying the acting was horrible is a little harsh don't u think?
I know it doesn't have the best acting and some of it is really over the top, but it certainly could have been worse. That's my opinion anyway.

I think prefer the Death Note anime to the live action movies but I think the movies are definitely worth watching for their different spin on events. However, I think that the twists and turns of Death Note were more suited to a 37 episode anime that a couple of two hour long movies.

I know people have a problem with the last third of the anime but to me it is still one of the best that I've seen. It's true that the last third didn't shine quite as bright as the first part of the anime but I would still take the last third of Death Note over a lot of the other anime I've seen.

I do find that Japanese actors have a different more over the top style of acting which is kind kind of difficult to get used to but I wouldn't call it terrible. I actually think that style of acting works better with an adaptation of an anime anyway even if it can be hard to take seriously in live action sometimes.

Anime sometimes is way better than real life. This might be the case.. its just a bit dumb to see ppl running around and doing those kinds of stuff x-x

live action has way better casting
