Well, Dr. Love seems to have a problem of his own!

I am an almost 22 year-old history & sociology student in university, going into my 4th year. Now, I know this one girl, have been friends with her for a while, and she is going to be a freshman here in about a month. Awesomely intelligent, funny, cute, shares my political/social/historical viewpoints and plans to go into sociology.

The catch? She's a smart girl who graduated high school early- at 17. She isn't going to turn 18 for another 6 months- pretty much at the end of her first semester of college. Now, I am a man who usually refuses to date high school-age girls, even if they're at/above the age of consent (i.e., I know that just because it's LEGAL doesn't make it right/smart)... I'm not a pedophile and I don't like dealing with teenage girl bullshit. This girl, however, is mature for her age and is, after all, going to be in college.

So, to get down to it: is this a girl I should try to get with, or would it still be messing with a little girl (no matter what her academic position is)?

I don't think there is a problem if you want to be with her, I don't think she's too young.
I have been with girls older than me (I'm 20 years old and they were 22-23) but I better like younger ones xD
Andrei you would be a pedophile if you liked girls under thirteen/fourteen years old.

PS. I think this question was for the "DR. LOVES OFFICE" thread ;]

Yeah, actually the term "pedophile" would be incorrect in this situation; the term for attraction to 14-17 year olds in English is "ephebophilia". It's just I know this asshole who is 21 and he goes around banging 15 year olds and I don't want to seem like I'm doing the shit he's doing.

Also, with large age gaps between a woman and a man, there is often a great power imbalance (even if it's unintentional). It's something I'm going to have to watch out for.

If you like her I think it would be dumb of you not to pursue something. Age is just a number and she'll be 18 soon enough. I was 17 during my freshman year of college and I can say that I would like to have been treated just the same as if I were 18. When you're sitting in class the maturity level is there so I wouldn't worry about it at all.

And to add to that, my last gf was 18 when i was 22 (a few months anyways). We had a great relationship till I had to move away, but I wouldn't let it stop you if you have sincere feelings for her ^_^

I'll say, if you like her, why not go for it? besides, you said she's mature and she shares your views, right?

I would wait a while before I make any move. Let the first semester pass and see what happens. Though, keep in mind that she has to somewhat have an idea that you like her, or else she won't know and might get with someone else.
If you're really anxious, then you could just go for it. What do you have to lose?
Well, this is just my take in it. Do as you wish.

Andrei here, back in black and unbanned XD

So we're... kinda together now. Not in a full-blown relationship, but it's, it's good for what it is now. We'll see what happens.
