Welcome movie goers to our tenth Movie of the Week.

This week's feature is Paprika from my favorite anime director: Satoshi Kon.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851578/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_1

MAL said:
In the near future, a revolutionary new psychotherapy treatment called PT has been invented. Through a device called the "DC Mini" it is able to act as a "dream detective" to enter into people's dreams and explore their unconscious thoughts. Before the government can pass a bill authorizing the use of such advanced psychiatric technology, one of the prototypes is stolen, sending the research facility into an uproar. In the wrong hands, the potential misuse of the device could be devastating, allowing the user to completely annihilate a dreamer's personality while they are asleep. Renowned scientist, Dr. Atsuko Chiba, enters the dream world under her exotic alter-ego, code name "PAPRIKA," in an attempt to discover who is behind the plot to undermine the new invention.

This one also cuts out the coolest opening credits ever, so when Kosaku says, "Just a humble bounty hunter, Ma'am." watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofSLCFxJ8Jo

SPOILER ALERT!
As usual, should you or any of your IM forces be caught or killed beyond this post,
this agency will disavow any knowledge of spoilers.

I watched this movie at my friend's behest well before I truly got into anime. It was trippy. Not bad by any means but certainly difficult to understand what's going on half the time unless you're used to reality shifting rapidly.

Yeah, that's Satoshi Kon, Brian. He loved to mess with your head. I really wished he had lived long enough to make lots more stuff.

First time I watched Paprika, I thought it was trippy, artistic but confusing. I watched the US Dvd release in English. Since then I have watched it again and it was much more understandable. My advice is too watch it more than once!

Yeah, it's confusing the first time. You never fully get Satoshi Kon's stuff the first time through and this one isn't his best.

Heard some of the soundtrack, the music is kinda unusual, but interesting.

Inception indeed had some ideas inspired by Paprika but I feel Inception was executed better, and was just overall better lol

Around last year I randomly stumbled upon this movie in a soon to be closing movie rental place, who were selling most of the dvd's and such in stock :3 I must say, the purchase of this movie is one I'll never regret and I'll continue to rewatch it for years to come most likely x3 It was a little trippy, but the art itself and the well whole story/premise it was just great.

It's one of my favorite anime next to Bebop. Saw it at my uncle Steve's house. We first started to watch a very cliched fantasy anime but then switched over and it blew my mind. Everybody else in the room looked exhausted.

Hee hee! I could see where Paprika could do that to you. If you liked Paprika you might want to try Movie of the Week #2: Mind Game.
