So i wanted to bring some life back into this club so i thought why not some jazz? If you want any specific recommendations or you wanna share some of your favorite sessions this is the place. I'll start off with one of my favorite jazz sessions of all time, Spiritual by John Coltrane. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkY_zTKzPCY&list=PL1DYg6YE3ruekbRK2xGu_r3HLWruzpF_f |

Vera nice playlist, Ace. Yoko Kanno's Moanin' just doesn't hold a candle to Art Blakley (duh!). I got into jazz when Cowboy Bebop came out and again with Kids On The Slope. I have lots of jazz now. I just need to make more time to listen to it. Are you familiar with The Esbjörn Svensson Trio? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w937ZhyBk4g&list=PLA4E294EF3909B91B |

Ive never heard of them. Im most familiar with hard bebop and jazz fusion but they sound pretty sweet. They definitely have a unique sound. |

24 hours later and I still have Moanin' running through my head I have always liked Art Tatum. He may be a bit too much Swing for your tastes but he doesn't just play a tune, he dances circles around it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOtDQH8znjM&list=PL9A87BE1C89C20D6F |

Art Tatum pops up on my pandora station sometimes. I really should listen to more piano based jazz. I can't believe that this is from the swing age since it so much more fresh than a lot of modern stuff. Have you listened to Hank Mobley at all. He is overshadowed by John Coltrane a lot but he has the feel for the tenor sax like no other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmtHdBPzi_w |

That's nice. I was unaware of him. Whenever I run across someone who makes good tunes I run over to Extra Torrents and get myself suited up. Then again, that's how I end up with all this stuff I'm unfamiliar with. For instance...(perusing)... Don Grolnick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imbz83p75Rg Not bad. A little too free form for my tastes, but I could learn to like him a lot. Didn't know him. Didn't know I had him. |

I was thinking about Kids On The Slope and I wondered how they could not have mentioned Dave Brubeck's Take 5. That song would have been known to almost everyone in 1966. Then I thought, that's why. =0) Also, here's a classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hL8GwidZcg |

There was a lot of jazz that was left out but not everything could make the cut. It might also have to do with licensing but who knows. Eddie Harris is pretty awesome. I listen to a lot of his stuff. I just stumbled upon this amazing piece today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=oxzeDpBvxv4#! |

Oh yeah. That's real nice. I remember being impressed with Mr. Evans when I first listened to him after he was referenced in Kids On the Slope. I've been downloading so much jazz since then that I can't even listen to it all, let alone become familiar with any of it. I have quite a bit of Bill Evans Trio but didn't have this one. So... Do you do torrents? (Sorry. Links to illicit downloads violate MAL's rules for being very dangerous to MAL.) |

In spite of all the porno ads (Adblock Plus gets rid of all that), that site is a very good source for all kinds of media. I've been using it for years and never gotten any bad stuff (Of course, I don't download any porn, programs or games.) I've finished downloading Explorations. I lllllllllike it. This is going on my 'to buy' list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CidKmdtvtfs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpQQ1RjnRJM |

All that text that Spike and Jet are runnung through in the show's opening says: Once upon a time, in New York City in 1941... at this club open to all comers to play, night after night, at a club named "Minston's Play House" in Harlem, they play jazz sessions competing with each other. Young jazz men with a new sense are gathering. At last they created a new genre itself. They are sick and tired of the conventional fixed style jazz. They're eager to play jazz more freely as they wish. Then... in 2071 in the universe... The bounty hunters, who are gathering in the spaceship "BEBOP", will play freely without fear of risky things. They must create new dreams and films by breaking traditional styles. The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called... COWBOY BEBOP Go to YouTube and search, "Minston's Play House*" and start listening. *Actually it's, "Minton's Playhouse", but either will work. |

Nevermind the above. Upon inspection I found that there isn't much music under that search. It's mostly tourist videos and cuts from some documentary. |

I was driving to philly to visit my brother for his birthday a couple days ago and I discovered this jazz station. They did a whole feature on Charles Mingus which was really cool. I wish I was alive in 1959 though! |
