Which is Better: The Original Saint Seiya or Lost Canvas?

I find that many of the characters in Lost Canvas are better than the original StS characters.

For instance, Yato is FAR superior to Jabu, and while I love Aphrodite, Albafica interested me far more.

Do you agree or disagree? Why do you think one or the other is better? I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts!

I totally agree.
Graphics is much better then the one in the first Saint Seiya and, indeed Albafica ( and not only him ) are more interesting then his descendant, (sp?) Aphrodite. When I first saw him, I tough him a girl. -.-
I also like their Athena better. I don't know about you, but Saori was getting on my nervs sometimes.

i hate(well.. maybe not that strong) the original is because of two things

1.Saori never stops to say SeiyaSeiya, whenever he is in trouble

2. the saints always win because of this reason; once the saint experiences an attack they will understand the mechanics and therefore any attack wont work on saints twice

The lost canvas hands down. Fights are longer and more spectacular and more development when it comes to the gold saints.

Well, I can't find a place to read the full original Saint Seiya manga (if anybody can tell me where it'd be MUCH appreciated!) and I hear the licensed English translation is pretty bad. So I can only judge by the anime and assume the manga is better. I like Lost Canvas art infinitely more, and I agree that some of the Gold Saints are more appealing in Lost Canvas (Albafica and Sisyphus stand out to me in particular), plus Tenma is a hell lot less annoying than Seiya. Still, I like the plot better in the original (especially Hades arc), and I developed stronger attachments to characters in the original (maybe because they stayed alive longer? :P), so I voted for the original.

I'm one of the rare ones who support the original manga till the end! I'm not interested in Lost Canvas, at least not yet.

One thing I don't get in the current Saint Seiya(not Lost Canvas) is that, how many times has Seiya saved Saori? o__O like a whole number of times, surely.
Yet some part of her REFUSES to give him the gold cloth he is worthy of wearing, and the cloth that doesn't reject him, mainly, the Sagittarius cloth.

But nooooo even when the cloth also chooses Seiya and Seiya chooses to save Athena VERY gallantly, she STILL refuses to give him a promotion, heck, he isn't even a SILVER saint. Infact, the only thing she gave him was a WHEELCHAIR (when he was vegetated by what, saving her again?) that by the way leaned more to a BRONZE colour cause it was wood, so in the end he was still just a Bronze Saint to her :/

And what makes it even weirder is that, Kanon wasn't exactly the most angelic person, yet she praaaaayed for his safety after being encaged in some cave cell by Saga, heck, the moment he like, apologizes to her one? She instantly dons him a gold cloth :/ The illogical side makes of the normal Saint Seiya makes me like Lost Canvas more.

I mean sure, she's a goddess and all, maybe I'm just rambling.

The Lost Canvas, hands down. Not only does it not fallow your typical shonen formula but the side characters get to shine as well. Gold Saints were superb here, loved every one of them.

The original one ftw! >8D I really like the 80's humour and the craracters more than the stupid 21th century. Nowadays I just can't stand the 20th and 21th century animes 'cos the cliches are always in every anime etc. I know there are plenty of cliches in 80's animes too but I haven't gotten used to them yet. x'D So for now I'm going to say Saint Seiya.
In Lost Canvas the characters are so cliche and can be seen in many different animes too so it's just boring. >__>

And in the 80's Saint Seiya I get the feeling that the characters respect each other more than nowadays for example in Lost Canvas. They remember the names of their enemies and speak to them while using their names. Nowadays enemies and the goodies just mock each other and try to looks so cool.

I have read and watched both series and I have to say the original will always have a biggest place in my heart.
I do admit that some characters are better developed in LC but the original characters have all my love.

Take Cancer for example, Manigoldo and Deathmask appear to be complete opposites.
Deathmask was portrayed as not so strong (being defeated several times and not in "important battles" ). Deathmask had a very interesting idea of what justice was about, he supported Saga's ideal because he (like Aphrodite and Shura) believed that justice was power and to him Saga was the most powerful. Until that point he comes like one of the cliche antagonists, although I must say I really loved his way of thinking. But then Kurumada surprised us with Deathmask's change of heart. Suddenly we had this Deathmask helping Athena's cause and fighting as a good guy. I know this change of heart can be considered cliche or whatever you want to call it, but to me, it was the perfect development for Deathmask's character. At that moment, it was unexpected and I truly enjoy it.

Manigoldo had a big part defeating a god. He was portrayed as a strong character from the very beginning, he was kind and had what we would call a normal sense of justice. He had a very straightforward way of thinking.
I love Manigoldo, his story and his development as character were beautifully written, BUT Deathmask and his unique personality will always have my love.

The same goes for several characters in the original series.
I won't deny that some stories in LC truly touched my heart (and made me cry like a baby), but the original touched me to a major extent.

mmmm its hard to say... after all i grew up with the original SS, if i were to simply compare them, sure LC is way better in animation, story, character developement, and a lot more things, it even has that spark of epicness that its not usually seen in animes(or mangas) this days, but in my opinion, that old art, that old way to tell a story of the original SS (hell, in my head its still the knights of the zodiac...) is way better, and i (along with many others) wont ever forget it.

but still, ask me the names of the original gold saints...aldebaran..death mask..saga..mu..aphrodite..shura..(i spent like 5 mins trying to remember this, but i watched that anime like 10 years ago, and you dont remember side characters for so long)

in comparation i belive i wont ever forget these LC gold saints, ever (even some of the specters like kagaho, casshire, violate(loved that woman), mephisto, partiia, radamanthis)

in the end, i belive above all LC is better, but we should respect the original SS fore ever

at least you can throw shit at SS omega if you want to find an inferior piece(magical boy....saint seiya..)
Being a fan is like having a penis. Its nice to be proud of it But don't pull it out in public and wave it in other's faces

Lost Canvas is better IMO. More character insight, better fights, better art, far fewer asspulls, and several good plot twists.

The only things that stand out for me as being drawbacks were the somewhat slow start and the yaoi-ish stuff between Tenma and Alone near the end of the manga.
Salmon is delicious.

No. While I love Lost Canvas and it was the first anime I watched from the franchise, I find it impossible to beat the Original Manga. While the Original Manga has the greatest of the arcs ever created in the franchise, Lost Canvas has too, but in the half of the manga, it starts dropping in quality. Bluegraad Arc, the Ship of Hope arc and the Malignant Temples arc are boring as hell. I almost drop the manga in episode 160, when Aries Shion is fighting Balrog Lune. It's not until the end that Lost Canvas starts getting better again, with the fight of Gemini Aspros against Mephistopheles Yoma (Kairos). As for the OM, I find it to be always consistent with its work. While Poseidon ant the Tournament Arc could be boring, the Sanctuary Chapter and Hades Chapter are awesome.

OG is full of plot holes, inconsistencies, the same story beat rehashed over and over, characters are flat as board, and the fights eventually boil down to messes like "a saint can't be hit by the same technique twice" as if that means anything.

And don't let me get into shit like Kido Mitsumasa having 100 sons and treated them like orphans and abused them before sending those six years old kids to their death for the sake of a girl he adopted just because she's supposed to be a goddess. All that despite being rich af. Only for fucked up details like that to be forgiven, downplayed, and ignored.

Worse of all: OG ended on a cliffhanger because the author has been too lazy for decades to give us a proper ending but also too greedy to let Hades be the ending.

Lost canvas art is better (sorry Kurumada fans, but his art is ?Rustic?Primitive)
On story, I like how even if golds are fighting a losing battle, LC does them a lot of justice.
The way Lost dimension continuity keeps saying that the time travelling Bronzes are pivotal to the past wars is really bad.
I like how OG is a happy tale about beating gods though, so OG plot is slightly better than LC.
(PS: OG Anime art is way better than manga art, but anime has pacing and filler issues)
