| This was a terrible movie. I mean, I certainly enjoyed myself, and it has some amazing animation but as a movie it falls flat. The story starts off in media res with only a small flashback for context, so first of all you need to have the ending of the last season fresh in your mind. Sure, it's a sequel but still, not exactly a great start considering this made me feel somewhat disconnected from all these big emotions everyone feels. After this the entire story switches a bit between characters, before deciding to just focus on one battle, flashbacks for the relevant characters, and then another battle that also is just fighting, flashbacks, fighting, flashbacks and then the movie just ends. I guess they were just following the source material but this format just does not work for a movie. In all honesty this probably should have been a series, and almost feels like a compilation movie. It felt overly long and repetitive, while at the same time adding nothing to the overall story. One fortunate this is that there is no reason to rewatch it before the next movie. The only thing to remember is that two numbers died and one hashira is being digested. |
