Hey guys. My brother and I recently watched Ne Zha 2 (fantastic movie btw) and were stunned that it was the 5th successful movie worldwide with just a release in China. I don‘t know how but somehow we changed the topic to JJK. Spoilers ahead for anime-onlys.
And my brother said that the movie will be so successful that it will be in the Top 10 or even Top 5 movies worldwide. I think that no matter how good the fight is, it won‘t happen. Just like the first Infinity Castle movie will never be so successful. And I think the other two Demon Slayer movies won‘t be so successful. Then he said that I underestimate the anime community and that even non-anime fans will watch the movie. I really like the fight but I don‘t see it happening if it really becomes a movie. I can see that totally happening in Japan, but worldwide? I doubt it. But what do you guys think?

the infinity castle movie has reportedly already crossed 300 million dollars worldwide, so it definitely did well. It’s mostly about the hype and fan base. At my place, anime movies that don’t rly have much of a prominent fan base, like the spy x family movie or the detective Conan movies, tend to do terribly in our country. Movies like demon slayer, Haikyu, Makoto Shinkai movies however already have a large reputation here and do pretty well. JJK is one of the most popular anime of recent times, so I personally think it will do pretty well.

That being said, top 10 worldwide is quite questionable, but anything can happen. A detective Conan movie beat avengers endgame at the Japanese box office after all.

Mappa would surely make a movie out of Gojo vs Sukuna. They are already going the Demon slayer route with all the movies scheduled.
I cant say about its box office performance already but it will be huge. Jjk is quite possibly the most popular anime right now behind Demon slayer. The first movie of Kny alone has made more than 300 million dollars right now with only 13 or so countries (I dont know why you are saying its unsuccessful when its breaking all sorts of box office records in every single country it has opened in). It has yet to release in major markets like US and China. It could definitely beat Mugen train's record despite the weaker yen.
This movie has literally paved the path for future anime movies and Gojo vs Sukuna could do good business.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Gojo is one of the most famous pop culture characters right now. Your brother has a point; but we’re still quite far from seeing a REALLY successful anime movie

I didn‘t mean that the Demon Slayer weren‘t successful. Sure they will break record after record. I just think that they won‘t be in the top 10 movies after their theatrical run.

@Kieran98 It probably wont but being in the top 10 is setting the bar too high for an anime film. I do wish that an anime film makes it in that list though.
