This season will be a split-cour with the second half expected this winter. Also, the manga is coming to an end soon, and I'll just say that there was some massive outrage about it.

Episode 37

While the first two seasons were trashy, the third season was at least pretty good going to show how good this series can be when it's emotional and character-focused as opposed to convenient and the MC being such a headcase that he is. Anyway, after Chizuru went through a tough time last season with Kazuya the reason why she's staying upright, it's back to Kazuya being a you-know-what and hitting on the other girls.

To start off this season, Kazuya hits on Ruka seeing that they work together at the karaoke parlor, and thinks about going on a hot springs trip with her. Kazuya takes a bath, and when he's about to go to bed, Chizuru asks to go out together on the weekend, which after freaking out about how to replay, he accepts. Chizuru arranged this to pay him back for that extravagant date Kazuya took her out on shortly after her granny, the last member of her family other than herself, passed away. It's the same good old trash that I remember seeing that Kazuya is back to being the nutcase I remember him being.

I've forgotten most of what happened last season, and I forgot how this show has text pop up all over the screen all the time.

This is the infamous arc of Rent a Girlfriend haha.

Also I read the most recent chapter out of curiosity. Without spoiling, I have to say the mangaka has to be one of the worst mangakas or greatest trolls ever.
I'm a cultured degenerate.

Yeah, no. Despite the granny segment; this show left me flat. Not diving back into the hot garbage.

Episode 38

It has been a long time since Mami last appeared in this show as Kazuya's ex is helping out his granny, who is unaware of who she is. But in the meantime, Kazuya and Chizuru have another date as Chizuru is still on bereavement and they decide to have lunch together at a casual Italian restaurant, this after Kazuya tried for something fancier but couldn't get a reservation for. And once again, this goes to show the biggest problem with this show in the convenient storytelling as the waitress brought them desserts when the two should be kissing, and when Kazuya confesses that Chizuru is the ideal girlfriend, Kibe drops by. And now, Kazuya is dealing with another problem as Mami should have nothing more to do with him after dumping, yet here she is now about to do stuff for his granny.

Episode 39

While Mami is hooking up over sake with Kazuya's granny, Kazuya and Chizuru go out again, and this time it's to meet up with Chizuru's show biz colleagues in a fancy club in Daikanyama. Umi pops the question there when he asks Kazuya what he thinks when he says "I don't not like him, either" as being celebrities means just about everything gets publicized. And that includes relationships, which explains why Chizuru is still single even though she is ideal girlfriend material. She's just trying to be cautious about who she becomes emotionally attached to seeing that if she gets a real boyfriend, she will have to stop pulling this rental girlfriend act. So while the next episode figures to focus on Ruka, Mami will also have an impact from the look of things, this could be really bad for Kazuya if her granny finds out that Mami is his ex.

Episode 40

Kazuya is in a tight spot after Mami gets involved with Kazuya's granny Nagomi. First of all, he's trying to break up with Ruka, but Ruka isn't so willing to just let him off the hook like that. Then he asks for advice from Kiba and his best friend tells him that Nagomi wants nothing more than for him to live a happy life, which is possible to do without a girlfriend. And then Chizuru calls Kazuya over to talk about this matter as now Mami is out to wreck this relationship. And then comes the moment to start it all when Mami bumps into Chizuru and afterwards asks her to go out to eat donuts after class. Kazuya is in quite a tough spot now after all that and with Mami about to tell his grandma that Chizuru is just a rental.

Episode 41

While dining over donuts, Mami warns Chizuru about Kazuya, telling her about what kind of creep he is that led her to breaking up. Lost in thought, Chizuru heads to the batting cages, all while Ruka barges into Kazuya's apartment to have some alone time with him. And then Chizuru and Nagomi drop by with Kazuya's granny telling everybody that they are going on a family trip to a spa, something Kazuya is not looking forward to. And after that, Chizuru sees that Ruka has had her first time seeing that there is a used condom pack. The situation has really gotten out of hand, and Kazuya has a lot to own up to after all that.

Episode 42

The family trip is on, and it turns out that a lot more people have been invited than expected as it turns out that in addition to Chizuru and Ruka, Kibe and Kuri are also coming for the trip to the indoor waterpark, which is a real-life place as Spa Resort Hawaiians is located in Iwaki in the Fukushima Prefecture. And of course seeing that Mami has been running errands for Nagomi that she would be there. And so, it's quite a nervous time for Kazuya here seeing that he has been faking his relationships and that his ex has conveniently found her way to his granny, and this family trip is the last thing he needs at the moment.

Episode 43

Kazuya is backed into a corner seeing that Mami is also there, and not to mention the way Nagomi divided up the rooms. She's staying with Kazuya's parents, while Kazuya and Chizuru have a room together, while the two boys have a room together, with Ruka getting one by herself as the lone girl. It turns out that Mami's parents are employees at Spa Hawaiians, so it was easy for her to arrange this trip with Nagomi. In the meantime, the boys are awed by the choice of swimsuits that Chizuru and Ruka have decked out. While it's meant to be a fun time, there's definitely something sinister at play as Mami is none too pleased about what Kazuya has been up to since breaking up.

Episode 44

And it's the good-old fanservice cliche as Chizuru's top comes off during that ride. It's a good thing Kazuya quickly found it so that she can safely exit the pool before anybody else noticed them. After that, Kazuya and Chizuru comes across Mami and Nagomi, and at the very least Nagomi doesn't know about the failed relationship between Kazuya and Mami, though Mami could have easily told Nagomi and to act as if she didn't know, but that's something for another day. There are plenty of things that can go wrong in an episode like this, and that's exactly what happens.

Episode 45

And now, an episode focused mostly on Ruka as she has her time alone with Kazuya, and is trying to convince him to fall for her instead of a rental. Chizuru sees that Ruka has used a condom for her first time. So after a day in the pool, it's off to watch a Polynesian dance team, all while Chizuru recalls that her grandma used to take her to this place. And of course, Kazuya is under a lot of fire there seeing that he's going far and beyond for a rental girlfriend rather than somebody who truly loves him that Ruka is, all while Mami is letting him know that she's aware that Chizuru is just a rental girlfriend and that she's ready to spill the beans at anytime with Nagomi.

Episode 46

And now, everybody goes to bed after a day of fun, and it turns out that Kazuya's parents got married here, so that's why this place was selected for the family trip seeing that Nagomi sensed that Kazuya was going to get married soon. Ruka ended up sleeping with Chizuru and Kazuya and given that Chizuru was asked to spend two nights with Kazuya that she tells him that he's getting a discount for her services. And then Chizuru ends up buying a ring as a souvenir, but Mami has been spying on them thinking that it's a wedding ring. The tension is building here seeing that things are conveniently being put together and Mami is being quite observant about all this.

Episode 47

And now, Mami is about to make her move as she's hellbent on exposing Chizuru as a rental to Nagomi. Once again, this show made things awfully convenient for this kind of melodrama to go down as Mami overheard the conversation about wedding rings, and then they happen to be in the bathroom together then next morning with Nagomi coming in to overhear their conversation, though not catching the part about being a rental. Nagomi has a private conversation with her grandson and while Kazuya was prepared for the worst, Nagomi is actually saying that she's the happiest she has ever been in 21 years since Kazuya's parents got married, and that she's over the moon with Chizuru. However, the truth is about to get out as while Nagomi didn't hear the whole conversation, she did hear the part where she's a victim, and is asking Mami to clear the air about that, and that sets the stage for Mami getting her revenge on her ex. One more episode left before this show goes on break as this is a split-cour season.

Episode 48

The first half of this split-cour season ends nothing but pure melodrama as this trip has been a total nightmare for Kazuya, while Chizuru is not sure what to do. But then Mami swoops in and before Kazuya and Chizuru have a chance to talk things out, Mami tells Chizuru that it's urgent that they meet seeing that Nagomi is quite concerned when she overheard Mami say that Chizuru is a victim in all this. Mami proposes that she rents out Chizuru so that she can cut all ties with Kazuya as his rental girlfriend. So what will Chizuru decide to do between accepting Mami's offer and backstabbing Kazuya in the process, or stay faithful to him and at least find a better time to break up? The answer will come in the second half.

So with that, it's time to take a break from this show, and this season takes the show's worst traits to the extreme. Kazuya continues to be an unlikable wuss, while the show's convenient storytelling really ramps up this season that sets things up for something that wouldn't develop naturally. And of course, Mami shows why she's a big reason why this show can be so cringeworthy. Season 3 shows just how good this show can be as at the very least things were developing naturally and the characters were not being a pain in the rear, but this season shows how bad it could be to this point. In any case, I'm at least seeing this season to the end since I made it this far already.
