So... does this soft resets the story or I just have to ignore the season 1 anime original ending?

Saw season 1 when it aired and liked the series, but the anime only ending kept me full. Now I want to retry this series by rewatching season 1 and the this one... but if this season does a sort of recap of the season 1 in less episodes, I might be doing myself some diservice. So, do I watch the manga canon episodes of season 1 and I'm safe, or should I start fresh from this season?

Watch the manga canon, then start this season. Season 2 doesn't recap much about the first season except the manga canon part where it ended, if i recall correctly.

Just watch until episode 17 where the cannon part ends and from there season 2 picks up

You can search online the canon episodes of season 1 and watch only those. That's what I did in my rewatch.

Idk, when I started watching Blue Exorcist I wasn’t informed on the fact that season 1 wasn’t fully canon, so I just watched it completely, got a little confused while watching season 2 but easily caught up with it.

Also, unrelated question: what is the Blue exorcist movie? Is it canon? From what I could understand, on the timeline seems to be happening right after season 1 since the city got rebuilt after the destruction.
