The following are the bylaws of the Anime Parliament group on MAL. Please read this before filing a petition for a case. (the bulk of this material come from the official Anime Parliament® bylaws, modified for the MAL situation)
Roles of Parliament
Magistrate -Mr_Panda
Presides over all cases
Prevents significant tangents
Calls for Parliamentary Law Amendments
Has veto power over evidence and faulty arguments
May call for dismissal of cases in extreme circumstances
Calls for votes
Esquires of Parliament - TBD
Jointly support the Plaintiff and Defendants
Challenge or question arguments and presentations
May petition the Magistrate for dismissals or amendments
May suggest resolutions or sentences
May suggest cases
Members of Parliament - MAL users
May vote on all cases presented
May bring up cases
May suggest sentences
May post in designated deliberation areas
May bring forth evidence to trial
May petition to become Esquire in single cases where their knowledge is greater than existing Esquires
May act as witness
Permitted case formats
Character Trials:
Examples: Sango v. Miroku, for restraining order People for the Ethical Treatment of Abominations v. Sephiroth for murder of the Midgar Zolom Fans v. Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar for sugar peddling to minors Fans v. Lina Inverse for wanton acts of reckless violence
Universe vs. universe disagreements:
Examples: Gundam SEED Destiny v. Gundam SEED for grand theft plotline Where’s Waldo v. Carmen Sandiego for rights infringement
Outside Forces:
Examples: Nami (One Piece) v. Doujinshi Artists, for use of likeness without permission
Weddings:
Example: Faye Valentine To Wed Vash the Stampede (bounty claimed)
Cases that will NOT be allowed:
Trials to adjust the fabric of a series:
Ineligible idea: Removal of an entire season
Possible alternative: Put series creator on trial for storytelling under the influence
Trials to adjust the makeup of Parliament:
Ineligible idea: Overthrowing of the Magistrate on grounds of no confidence
Possible alternative: Petition to become Esquire so you may have a greater say in the proceedings
Cases which are far removed from the Anime megaverse:
Ineligible idea: Arguments on a live-action series or American cartoon with no anchor in the anime multiverse.
Possible alternative: American cartoon vs Anime series Certain exceptions will be allowed if the Magistrate deems the case to have merit, or if he believes the fandom would support such a case.
Trials vs. US anime companies or personalities
Ineligible idea: Sub vs. Dub argument, Putting CN on trial for editing a series, etc.
Exception: Bring industry rep forward to argue on behalf of their company, or Voice Actor to argue on behalf of their character.
The Magistrate has the right to deem any case ineligible based on lack of relevance, similarity to previous case, no grounds, or simply for his personal enjoyment.[i/]
Amendments:
AUSA-0402-AM
Age Restriction Act of 2004: The new legal age of consent for anime characters has been established at 14. This law is subject to change should an appropriate case be brought forward.
OTKN-0501-AM:
Plushification Act of 2005: All characters who would otherwise be sentenced to death based on their crimes will now be turned into UFO Catcher sized plushies. The fate of these plushies will be decided by Parliamentary vote.
NYCC-0603-AM:
Adobe Act of 2006: Reasonably Photoshopped evidence will be permitted and considered valid for Parliamentary deliberations.
OTKN-0604-AM:
Alchemists Act of 2006: Alphonse Elric to be hereunto classified as “The Man”
MCO-XX Magistrate commandeering option.
