I love this show. I grew up with it, and watched it multiple times. I think the power system is interesting and the characters are likeable. It's interesting that our main group is generally not that strong, and most of their powers are pretty meh? but given the limitation of their ability, theres always a need for strategy in their battles. Theres also that factor where they dont always directly tell you what the ability of the enemies are which adds another layer of strategical planning, and this "strategic battle" thing persist till the endgame of the story. Not to mention the power system in the sequel is just as weird? which i wish received an adaptation, but i know its pretty unlikely. Also those two openings are bangers.

Hmmm... let's see.

I think I like three things the most:

1) Battles use to be about strategy. To be strong is not all you need, but to use your powers wisely.
2) Every plot element last the whole story. The story doesn't forget about what it has introduced earlier, so every time you think "What about that?" or "Why that didn't happen?" the show fastly gives you an answer.
3) Characters are used with respect. Even the weakest one (Mori and Hideyoshi) have their moments. Even when Ueki turns overpowered, Rinko, Sano or Riho keep fighting and doing their best.

And the openings are awesome indeed.

The ingenuity of the fighting with their candidate powers, quite impressive with how much variety they put on display with a "change X to X" power. That also goes for the celestial powers (sacred weapons) of Ueki and Robert.

The voice acting of Romi Park, quite possibly the most convincing voice actress to convey a Male's voice.

Ueki as a steadfast, no bullshit MC, very endearing personality, even if the old "dumb as bricks" trope is overplayed a bit. A good role model for young kids watching IMO

The gag comedy isn't as strong as it could be, it's very mainstream and cliche, but it does make me laugh every now and then.
