Can't say I didn't see that one coming. And I can't blame Will too much. The last two OPs were really pushing the boundaries of taste. You just don't lead off with that sort of thing if you expect ANYONE new to look in.

I mean, why do you think half the people asking for anime recommendations make H&A posts instead of going to the anime thread that's always on the front page? I wouldn't touch that OP with YOUR 10 foot pole.

Well, I knew they'd only tolerate that OP for so long.

At least this gives me the motivation to update my list! It's been ages since I last did so.

At least if people had had the decency to slap pics behind spoilers and drop a NSFW now and then. When you open the page and it's just raw shots of lolis glomping each other people are going to ask questions.

Yeah I really can't say I blame Will for locking it at all, I imagine most people new to the thread would take a look at the OP and immediately close their browser. I know I probably would have done the same!

I think when the thread is back a simple "here is what is airing this season, what they're about, and if it's being streamed legally here are some links! Also you can talk about stuff that's not airing too!" type of OP (followed by the 'ol recommendation lists) would be a much better thing to have as opposed to some folks scrambling in hopes of pimping their favorite show in the new OP.

I'm not surprised it got locked. That OP was pretty distasteful and was really pushing it.

If it was any mod but Irond I'd say that the only reason would be the OP... but Irond has made some... comments about how the Anime thread should be banned forever and ever and nobody should watch any ever.

So I question his decision just a tad...

But yes, the OP was not cool now that I really think about it.

I think you're right about Irond being biased. The OP was probably the excuse he was looking for to close it.

But it wasn't just the OP that got the thread locked, it was also the "...references to "lolicon" and various other forms of depravity".

Personally, I feel the thread locking was kind of overboard. We can have threads about people doing horrible shit in real life, but the shit commonly featured in anime is a no go?

Yeah as amusing as the show is, that should of been spoilered at least.

I don't even recall that much lolicon talk except maybe some off hand nanoha stuff.

The "illustrated" references to Lolicon (apart from the OP) is just complete BS.

Honestly if I thought it had any chance of doing something I'd complain... but the mods have shown how, at best, little they care unless it's annoying enough.

Meh...

"my hope is that after a cooling off period, the more problematic members who wanted to post about obsessive pedophilia will have fucked off to bash or 4chan where they belong, and the remaining members, who might otherwise contribute to the D&D community will be able to run a thread and talk about samurais with wolf ears or whatever else in a relatively civilized fashion."

I read it as aimed at specific posts by specific posters. I still think the problem is that it was getting too insular and OPs like that and B Cup screencaps with no labels and no spoilers were keeping new people out. Tell, don't show.

Like I said, if you've got an anime thread that's permanently on the first page but people still feel the need to make a separate thread in H&A to ask for anime recommendations or ask anime questions then the D&D thread just isn't doing its job.

where's this H&A thing?

and beside, there's no anime thread in D&D, it's always a weeaboo thread, and no matter how much people try to say it's anime, it's renamed to weeaboo.

how would the H&A poster ever know it was an anime thread? weeaboo is a PA thing.

whatever mod that kept changing it to the weeaboo thread was the one making the thread insular.

Apologies for derailing the thread, y'all.

You know what I find terribly disappointing? The rarity of Avatar toys, and save for the Appa and Momo plush toys.... which reminds me, I need a giant Sky-Bison to go alongside my Arceus and Tare-Panda plush.

Yeah, given how popular Avatar was and the fact that there are bazillions of Spongebob things EVERYWHERE I'm a little baffled they didn't at least do a toyline.

They did do a toyline.
A toyline containing zero Tophs [tiny]for me to record myself doing things onto and posting on 4chan[/tiny] is not a toyline.

That said, I got the four toy set scene of the water nation invasion and it's pretty badass. the action figure toys were pretty meh so I never got them.

Irond Will does sound terribly biased, doesn't he?

So, I'm assuming this is the place the weeaboo thread will be in exile.

Has anyone else watched RAINBOW? It was somewhat cheesy, but had an interestingly honest and negative portrayal of Japanese society in the 50's.

I will admit, 75% of the reason I am watching Senkou no Night Raid will be to see how they portray the eventual occupation of Manchuria. If they actually have the balls to do it on Japanese television.

New, simply put. I got over merely reading the forums for 5 years and decided I'd post for once. Name here is the same as on the PA forums. Of course, as soon as I post in the Japanimation thread it gets locked a day later.

I seem to remember something about a manga set between A's and StrikerS? If I do recall correctly, would it be prudent to track that down before continuing on to the last anime serries?

Weelll... StrikerS doesn't require any previous knowledge other than A's to fully understand... so the manga is more like extra story rather than backstory.

A little ironic isn't it?

"Oh hey you guys are too insular, so go be even more insular using a website that isn't even connected to PA"

Could've at least just banished the thread to another forum. Or merely culled the NWS thread and told us to begin a new, "stricter" one.

To be fair I imagine some folks were turned off by the OP, though the constant changes to the thread tag from anime to weeaboo probably didn't help matters either.

That said, I'm not too concerned since it appears to be only a temporary thing (though I do think giving the thread a warning first would have been a better way to go about it really). Out of curiosity, has anyone PM'd any mods about anything yet? I figure I'd ask first because flooding their inboxes is probably not the best way to go about it!

I haven't yet... if you do want to contact someone try Elki... he handled the whole Clawshrimpy thing very well IMO. I'm slightly curious if there was any discussion amongst the mods over whether to lock the thread or not, or if Irond simply locked it in some sort of explosion of passive aggressive nerd rage.

I suppose we can also use this thread to think up some guidelines for the new OP when we get the thread back... something more newbie friendly.

Can we just have warnings about NSFW content in spoilers and leave it at that? I mean, this whole thing's BS so why bother putting any effort creating guidelines?

Anyway, I finished Nanoha and started A's. So much better than the first series.
