I see you liked Bakemono. I still think episode 12 was the best ending for a series I've ever seen... 13,14 and 15 I count as bonus episodes.

I'll try and find it, it looked interesting anyway.

See, Hayate isn't even really fully referential humor... unless you're talking about the first anime. The draw of Hayate (s2 and manga) is more rom-com than anything else. Also, Hayate actually has comedic timing (which PPD seems to use sparingly).

Plus, if you only watched the first 3 eps. of PPD, you missed one of the best ones (though I'd have to go back and look it up to figure out which one it was).

It was pretty bland, the only reason I forced myself through the first few episodes was because I'd spoiled myself heavily on tvtropes... but it does get significantly better from episode 5 onwards.

If you aren't well versed in anime/manga, then PPD is pretty much a nightmare. There are so many references that there are sometimes 3 in a span of ten seconds. It's a busy show, but I found it overall enjoyable.

There are a couple of characters that kind of feel flat, but then again, in this type of show, the characters and their development isn't the strong point. If it did devote time to developing them, then I think the show would lose a lot of its... well unique charm, I guess.

I like a lot of the characters in PPD. They all have their roles and they each fill their roles well. There are a couple of characters that go above and beyond their contrived cut-outs, but overall, I feel the show does an adequate job of showing their sides.

Couldn't find it anywhere, but every person I know who watched it, ended up liking Nanoha as well.
blaze_zero Feb 24, 2010 3:06 AM
I plan on watching it sometime. Just need to get around to it.

What didn't you like about Pani Poni?
Falx Feb 24, 2010 12:07 AM
You need to finish watching all of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. I see you liked Sakura so you'll definitely find something to enjoy in it, especially in later seasons as it pokes a bit of fun at some of the conventions of the genre while still actually taking it seriously... well as seriously as it can, at least.

If you end up liking Sketchbook, you must immediately track down ARIA, it's even better and it's made by the same people.

Also, I'm surprised you didn't watch Nyankoi... it's humor seems to be perfect for you, judging by some of your selections.

Also, keep an eye out for Bungaku Shoujo once it releases. You can find a 17 minute long "preview" of it floating around. Quite interesting.
