I thought it would be entertaining to have a good song from anime recommendation thread. Music taste varies so this is just to point out some that you think that they stand out, and maybe others that don’t know them can find out about them. I don’t normally hear some of these songs genre, but I ended up liking them anyway for some reason.

With that said, let’s put some rules: the song should be one that you think it’s good and really like, in the sense that one can listen to it fully (not just from the intro or credits), and that you hear it not only when watching the show. And I think we should write some info about it, like the song name, the band, the anime from where it’s from, and maybe the genre (open to genre suggestions for the songs, as sometimes it is kind of difficult to pinpoint a genre). The rules are open to discussion, more or less, lol; I just thought that we needed parameters so that we don’t just add any song that just doesn’t bother us, or that we can bear. It does not have to be the best song for you, but one that you know what it is and that at least will be in a “playlist” that you hear.

Don’t know if we can add links for the songs of any video/audio site? Let me know if that is ok or not, though I don’t think it is that necessary, there is no doubt it would be helpful.

Let’s post 5 maximum songs each time just to try to keep it interactive. And leave a couple of days (seeing how this club behaves it should be months or even years, lol) to post again just to let people add things. But if people don’t post we could change it to a longer list. Let’s see how it goes.

Let’s try not to put duplicates, meaning that try not to add songs that have already been added by other members (though if they are different versions, they could potentially count as different songs). But, maybe add a comment toward the song that you also think is good, maybe by adding a +1 and the name of the song, also add the post number where the song was added too to keep track, as we could use it later to make a top hit list (maybe). Try to make it where it is easily viewable. (*See the Edit additions at the end).

Also, any ideas for the thread are welcome.

(I don’t speak Japanese and haven’t look what all the song’s lyrics might say, so I am possibly not assigning good points (or giving bad points) towards the lyrics and the meaning of the song. Hopefully none are trying to imitate Krauser, lol. For example, it’s incredible that I haven’t seen the translation of the two inuyasha songs that I included on this first list again, because I don’t remember what they are talking about.)

(Anyone that speaks Japanese well and would like to help me with the translation of a couple of songs, pm me. Thanks in advance)

*Edit additions:
-Following an idea by SixofQueens we can include a vibe description. When someone would like to make an additional description, you can write the qualities that you can pin point or that you capture from the song.
(I will add this “for others”, just in case. You don’t need to add a vibes description, it is optional, as it just to help describe a little bit more the type of song it is, and help filter the songs for others. (Don’t get discouraged by it by thinking; I am no writer man, I can’t describe my feelings damn it. Lol))

-An addition by SixofQueens to an idea from before is to make an Upvote list when you have songs that you also think are good, instead of just adding a +1 to the name of the song. Always try to include the post number of where you saw the song (to keep track). This is for maybe having a top list later. (Don't repeat the upvote, 1 upvote per song per member (I think that's correct, right. Let me know if I am wrong))

- You can just post a link when you are writing your reply by just pasting the link, as shown on one of my lists #13 on post #26. But you can also refer to the BBcode help when creating a reply and go to the "Creating links and showing images section". The first example is what you are trying to mimic:
[url=https://myanimelist.net]Visit MyAnimeList[/url] - this would display Visit MyAnimeList as an URL.
(You can ask for help)

This sounds like an interesting topic - I'll try to add some songs of different types (although I don't know the words to describe exactly the way the songs sound to me, or what genre a song fits in).

I wasn't entirely sure how to qualify songs for this, so I decided to choose ones that are part of a YouTube anime songs playlist that I made of my favorite anime songs. Also, sometimes I really enjoy a song, but didn't enjoy the anime - I decided that it wouldn't be disqualified for that.

1) Title: Set Them Free
Artist/Band: Akira Jimbo
Anime: Tonari no Seki-kun [ED]
Type/Genre: Jazz? Big Band?

2) Title: Kimi ja Nakya Dame Mitai
Artist/Band: Masayoshi Ooishi
Anime: Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun [OP]
Type/Genre: ? it's fun, bouncy

3) Title: Sugar Song to Bitter Step
Artist/Band: Unison Square Garden
Anime: Kekkai Sensen [ED]
Type/Genre: Pop? Energetic? Slightly funk?

4) Title: A Page of My Story
Artist/Band: n/a, it's the VAs
Anime: Princess Principal [ED]
Type/Genre: ? it's soft, not quite a cappella; folk rock?

5) Title: Buntline Special
Artist/Band: Vickeblanca
Anime: Double Decker: Doug & Kirill [ED]
Genre: Hard rock?

@Rivka44, The genre is just to give a little bit of info on what type of music it is. I thought it was a good idea because maybe by knowing the genre you will be more or maybe less interested in a song (that way you don't have to look at every song).

And yeah, i don't think that not liking the anime disqualifies a song. I have some songs like that too.

I think that there are some songs that when you hear them, there is something that makes them stand out, and therefore makes you want to hear them again. Like i said, maybe it is not the best song for you, but it kind of, lets say, speaks to you somehow. The point is so that we don't just write a list of all the songs we have heard, but to filter them with those that we may want others to hear them out because of that additional something.

@justkid This is a great idea! I personally have a playlist of over 60 anime songs (almost exclusively full versions of OPs and EDs) that I listen to regularly. I'm going to include (and try to keep it to one or two sentences) what it is that I find to be the qualities I like about the songs (when I can actually pin something down) to give more of a description of the "vibe" beyond just the genre (genres are still quite broad, after all), as well as include in a separate bulleted list any previously mentioned ones I also like with the post number beside the title. So, here are 5 to start with:

1) Name: Fukashigi no Carte
Band: Full Anime Cast
Anime: Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
Genre: Dower J-Pop
Vibe: Melancholy with a healthy dose of yearning, a piece with a great balance of character voice interplay and minor chord heaven, with a decent piano breakdown to boot.

2) Name: Darakena
Band: Iori Nomizu
Anime: Chaika the Coffin Princess OP 1
Genre: J-Pop Kawaii Metal
Vibe: Not for those who love death metal, but if you were a fan of Linkin Park and/or Evanescence back in the day, I think you'll enjoy this song.

3) Name: Spice (スパイス)
Band: Tokyo Karankoron
Anime: Food Wars! ED 1
Genre: Jumpy J-Pop
Vibe: A great light, punchy song that feels motivating without belaboring the point, good for a boost during workouts

4) Name: Hoshi to Hana (ホシトハナ)
Band: Full Cast
Anime: Yuuki Yuna is a Hero OP
Genre: Magical Girl Epic
Vibe: Want a song that you can sprint the entire chorus to no matter how tired you are? You're welcome.

5) Name: Connect
Band: ClariS
Anime: Puella Magi Madoka Magika
Genre: Magical Girl J-Pop
Vibe: Hope and despair perfectly balanced.

I have a lot but the first song that comes to mind is

FLCL - The Pillows - Ride On Shooting Star

Another great is

Cowboy Bebop - The Seatbelts - The Real Folk Blues

I'll make a longer list when I have more time, but these two are at the top of my list.

@SixofQueens, that’s great, those that can pin point a vibe description should add it. Anything that helps describe the songs is a good idea, and the bulleted upvote suggestion is a no brainer too.

The other thing I wanted to comment is that I am seeing that maybe links would be a very good idea, as these lists will be more difficult to browse as posts are adding up. Of course we only have to put the name in a site and the song will probably appear, but who are we kidding, we like when things are easy to do.

Is there a problem in posting a random (not your own) youtube (or another site) link of a song? If someone knows, let me know. Because with links, the probability of hearing the song jumps exponentially. (And I am not saying this because of me, of course not, I made the thread, how could I not search for the other songs…. Lol, as of now, I have just searched for a couple of them).

@justkid I don't know if there'll be any kind of problem linking to YouTube videos as far as MAL is concerned, but I went ahead and did it so I guess we're gonna find out. I edited my post to link to all the songs I mentioned, now all that's left to see is how long until any (or most) of the videos I linked to get taken down on YouTube for DMCA claims.

@justkid, for what it's worth (if you were wondering), I have checked out every post you've added, visited every link, listened to at least a minute of every song. This will be a bit of a meta discussion outside of any specific songs you've added (and I do intend to add some more myself in the near future in spite of what I'm about to say) and is instead about the challenges of finding common ground on musical tastes. I don't mean this as a rebuke of the idea behind this thread, I still think that it's a great concept, but unfortunately lacks in outside participation (as is the case with most threads in this group, but that's a whole other topic) and...well, the fact that musical preference is SO subjective and dependent on a great number of factors that finding common ground is fairly rare these days, at least in my experience. I will elaborate, and please feel free to comment or rebuke (in fact I welcome it), I'm not all-knowing after all. Also, I'll try to set up a coherent progression of thought, but I do oftentimes fail at that, so I beg forgiveness.

1) Innate Musical Taste is Subjective
This one is the easiest to start off with. Speaking only for myself, I enjoy catchy, repetitive rhythms with funk/jazz/blues/epic aesthetics while not really caring for the content of lyrics until I like the underlying music supporting it, songs that switch between major and minor keys (or just stay in minor), with musical buildups in the verses leading to a change in mood in the chorus (often described as a "drop", but it's not always that definitive), usually signified by a key/tempo change and other such things. If you go back and listen to the songs I've posted so far, you should readily be able to notice all of these things. But that's just me, and it's a result of listening to certain kinds of music during certain times with certain circumstances around certain people, all the while making judgement calls based on my own innate sense of taste along the way (I've listened to A LOT that I don't care for, and I can't always account for why). All of these circumstances are different for every single person. I know there are many people who can really vibe to more "minimalist" arrangements (not a judgment on quality, btw, and only a subjective call on complexity on my part), or who are much more in tuned to the lyrical content of a song than I am. Hell, my best friend and I, who are very close in many tastes, including musical tastes (liking EDM, FutureFunk/Bass, Anime tunes, Lofi, etc.), tend to like the exact opposite songs of each other (i.e. if I recommend an album or an artist, he likes the songs I don't and vice-versa). For what it's worth, I don't think that you and I have a similar innate musical taste, as I've only liked Tabi no Tochuu from you, and you've not listed a single one of the pieces I put as one you've liked (this isn't me expressing dissatisfaction or hunting for compliments, that isn't the point). You DO seem to have a clear musical aesthetic that is pretty well represented by your choices, but it's one that I don't share, and many others won't either. But some will, and finding those connections is incredibly rewarding, which is really the larger point, if more people would just participate.

2) Taste Can Change with Context
It is an inextricable fact that anime songs are tied up with the anime they are a part of. The song will ALWAYS make you think of the parent series, and your feelings on the parent series will inevitably influence how you feel about the song to an extent (I'll touch more on the outliers to this phenomena later). I have a few personal examples to attempt to illustrate the point (assuming it even needs illustration).

My same friend mentioned above once sent me a number of songs, some he knew I'd been looking for from visual novels, plus a few he just really liked himself. One of the songs was Hacking to the Gate from Steins;Gate, which at the time I hadn't watched. I remember listening to it (without any context) and placing it in the "maybe keep if it grows on me" pile, in other words, not the biggest fan, but willing to give it a few listens, which it performed at...not too well, and I was about to delete the file. But I then started to watch the show and heard the song in context, and...well, Steins;Gate is one of my favorite and few 10/10 series, and Hacking to the Gate is now not only a favorite song of mine, it has a rare place as a workout power-song, one that I listen to when I'm lagging in energy and need a song that will power me through almost any amount of exhaustion. This from a song that, on the first few listens without the context of the series behind it, was BARELY okay.

On the topic of visual novels, I haven't read many (in the grand scheme of things), but there are ones where the music, when taken in the context of knowing the story they are tied to, is SO iconic and evocative of the time when I was reading them that, though to an outside observer they may just be slightly above average pieces of background music (at best), to me they are powerhouse emotional ballads which evoke a complex blend of nostalgia, fantasy and yearning that I struggle to describe it properly.

I can't speak for any of the pieces you've listed, but I'd be willing to place a wager that many are from series you really enjoyed and are evocative of the particular period that you watched/listened to them, and that has a MONUMENTAL influence on enjoyment. There are, as a matter of fact, a small number of anime OPs and EDs that I absolutely love, bring me to tears, in fact, that I more or less only ever listen to in the context of watching their respective anime. While I can certainly listen to them in isolation and derive a complex emotional reaction from them, I choose to limit my exposure to them outside of their intended context within their respective series as that is where they are most "at home", and I do not want to risk degrading their emotional impact from listening to them too many times within outside contexts (examples are the OPs from Aria and Tamayura). Some of these bring me so poignantly back to certain lost times in my life that it almost hurts listening to them. But those feelings are completely lost on an outside listener, and such things have to be taken into account when making recommendations (not saying any of your choices fit such a description for you, but maybe some share similar connections).

3) Musical Taste Can Exist Beyond Context
There is, though, certainly an uncanny valley that exists between these, and those are the songs that are loved in spite of the series they are from, that seem to exist outside of their context to you. I certainly have one or two of these myself, songs that I absolutely love in spite of actually hating, or at least not really respecting, the series they are from, that just tick every box I love so well that I wish they were part of a series I liked better. One of note is a song I posted previously, Hoshi to Hana from Yuuki Yuna is a Hero, a series that I absolutely loath (I won't elaborate as to why I hate that series here, just suffice to say that I do).

In contrast to Hacking to the Gate, this is a rare instance where I first listened to this song and loved it so much that, in spite of warnings to the contrary, I felt I had to watch the show it came from, I instantly loved it so much. And watching the series, I absolutely loathed it. My love for the song, however, did not waver, and still has not, and continues to be a song that, as my vibe description implies, I can flat out sprint listening to regardless of how tired I am. ED of Yuuna and the Haunted Hotsprings is similar, though to a much lesser extent. This is the grey area that I feel this thread hopes to operate in, though it is a rare strike in my experience. But when it hits, DAMN is it worth it.

None of this is meant to say to abandon this thread, or the thought process behind it, at all. I intend to contribute to it further myself in the hopes of planting a seed in somebody who latches on to what I suggest. There are few small joys in life like that of finding someone who actually shares your musical tastes, then dipping into each others wellsprings of content, finding similarities, contrast and hidden gems that you each somehow missed and yet feel like they've part of your life all along regardless. Thank you for putting up with my rambling, assuming you've actually read all of this disjointed mess, and if you didn't, I don't blame you, it was frankly nice to find a place to express all of these thoughts, at least in part.

@SixofQueens don’t worry, no problem with speaking your mind, it broadens the dialogue for the thread.

In regards to the participation “problem”, the positive outcome on having less participation is that the thread can seem more intimidating (time consuming) with all the links or song recommendations as more people participate (though I know that’s the point, but hey that’s the positive side).

I know that participation would help to increase the possibility to find someone with similar taste, but keeping on the positive side, we are finding those that doesn’t have our tastes. For now we will have to continue liking most of our songs on our own, lol. The other thing is that it is another way to try keep the things moving in the club, in the hopes that options help others join to keep the ball moving.

And I hear you, it’s interesting to see the difference in taste we can have. In a pm to Rivka44 I stated the same thing. I had not heard many of the songs others have added, though for some I have not even seen the shows. But like you said, there are many factors that one takes into consideration (even unconsciously sometimes) to decide what one likes. A point that just came to me is that sometimes one needs time to help the song sink in too (maybe later one can add a song to the upvote list).

With that, what I think you are saying is that the subjective element works in detriment of the thread, as the chosen songs may rely more on our attachment to a show than to the “quality” of the tune or on our innate musical taste. And the thread is “injured” even more, as the amount of people participating stays low, because when those few are nothing alike in taste, they will not find many common grounds. Add to that, that the area where the thread “hopes to operate in, is a rare strike”. As is difficult just to find a song that you like because of the song itself.

SixofQueens, let me know if I grasped your idea on that last paragraph?

1) The question would be if the thread should operate only on the basis that a song is liked beyond the context of the show or not? I will add some “drama” in this question, Do you think that one should only recommend a song that they know it is not being “corrupted” and “tainted” by our emotions playing tricks on us, making us like things on a level that we shouldn’t? Lol

2) Or do you think it would be a good idea to add another category of information, stating if the song is strongly liked because of the close connection to the series? Because I was thinking; if you like the song, is that a wrong reason (that the connection of the show is why you like the song) for you to like it and not be able to recommend it? (Wasn’t the song found technically and directly because of the anime, and wouldn’t that be recommending a song you found because of the anime? I think I don’t really mind the reason that one likes a song is because of the show, if in fact you listen to the song a lot (or that you could listen to it a lot).

Now I will add my perspective on the selection of the songs I have posted and many of the songs that I listen to from the points you made.

On your first point, wow, you are very technical on what you like. I say that because in my case, I hear a song and I “know” if I like it or not (of course there is a play where repetition of the song for any case, makes you decide more clearly in any direction afterwards), but I don’t think I analyze things so “deeply” to see why I do or why I don’t like a song. Thinking about it, it is good information to have, lol, but it seems to not be an easy thing to do (at least for me. I would say you know music theory or have knowledge on music somehow)

Continuing with your points, I think that most of my songs are decided more from the innate musical taste, though I have not analyzed things that much. I know that the songs that I have can of course be affected to some extent if I liked the series, but they also need to hit that, let’s say “chord” (lol). They have to have an element that I like for me to want to hear them again (let’s say a vibe, a melody, a riff, a type of voice, etc). For example, I think that maybe from all the posted ones, the first 2 of my first list (the inuyasha songs, and from those two “Fukai Mori” more) carry some nostalgia from the series (though I don’t like a later outcome of the show). But even then, those 2 are sorted out from the other songs of the series. So I believe that the artist and there sound helped in the selection, as I don’t remember the other eds or ops. So, there is a certain attachment (nostalgia), but I don’t think the liking of the songs just rely on the show. (I can say sort of the same thing for the songs on list # 5, The Disastrous Life of Saiki songs, and the Kimi ni Todoke ed song)

Some examples of songs that I liked and I just saw a couple of episodes of the show are: “Natsu no Yuuhi” by the Jeni Jeni from “Barom One” (I’ve found this one recently), “Yellow Moon” from Naruto ED 13 (this was a song passed to me, I think I saw naruto once), “Shell” from Witch Hunter Robin Op (never finished it, though I think I liked the show, don’t remember that well, maybe I will try to finish it), “Unknown World Map” HighScore Girl II Ed (never finished the second season, think I saw 1 or 2 episodes), “Rewrite” from Fullmetal Alchemist op 4 (great song, you want to shout on the chorus too (Kishikaisei, Riraitoshite), but just saw a couple of episodes, though I saw Brotherhood), two that I am remembering that will be in a future list are “Hello, Shooting Star” from Assassination Classroom ed (saw 1 episode) and "Negai” from Granbelm ed 1.

Examples of animes that I saw but think they weren’t that great: "Amon-Devilman: Revelation" (me no mae no tsudzuki) from The Apocalypse of Devilman (liked the song from the first chord), “Nessa stay close tonight” from Genesis Survivor Gaiarth ed 2 (I like classic rock metal guitar).

With that said, I think that a positive emotion on a series affects more in this case, than a negative or a neutral emotion toward a series. The negative emotion is easier to separate, meaning that you can separate the song from the show without any major setback (I think).

But with that, citing one of your examples, one of the animes that is still one of my favorites is Stein Gate, but I don’t really know the op or the ed. If I hear them they sound familiar of course (more the op than the ed), but are not ones that I normally go to. In fact the one that I remember from stein gate is the instrumental one, “the Gate of Steiner”.

Let me know if I said something worthwhile in response to your post, or let me know if I missed the mark, lol. But you got me thinking on the two questions.

@justkid By and large I think you picked up on what I was getting at, though there are one or two things that I probably worded wrong or in some other way wasn't clear about that I'd like to straighten out.

I certainly didn't mean to suggest that the selections people put on here be limited by why they like them, I was really just musing on the many factors that come into people liking the music they like. Given that I kept coming back to how few other people are contributing (which, eh, it's not like what you and I are putting down is going anywhere, folks can find it later), I certainly wouldn't want to then turn around and suggest some arbitrary additional limiting factor like "only put songs you think are objectively good", besides that would open up a WHOLE other topic on objective quality that's been raging for thousands of years and isn't going to be solved on this message board. That was kind of the biggest one, though I can see how what I wrote could be taken that way.

The other point was that, while I'm flattered you seem to think I know anything about music or music theory, I wish to assure you that I do not. I certainly do have a tendency to overthink things, though (what, really, no, you don't say), so I've put some thought behind finding broad patterns and similarities in the things I do and to not enjoy, but it's just based on after-the-fact observation. Like with you, I ultimately just instinctively do or do not like certain pieces of music, then think through or notice possible reasons why as an afterthought. And it's not uncommon to find that I really like pieces that I wouldn't expect, or dislike ones that, on paper, I should really like, but they just doesn't do it for me. Hell, I didn't even mention that I also have a genuine soft spot for bouncy, fluffy, moe slice of life cute-girls-doing-cute-things type music, like the ABSOLUTE cringiest weeaboo stuff, some of my favorites. Certainly don't sound like funk or jazz, that's for sure.

Anyway, at risk of creating another wall of text, that's about all I wanted to follow up on. Ja ne.

@SixofQueens Yeah I am with you, we don’t want to give reasons to people to participate less, lol.

And even if I kind understood that your post was only making note about the subjective elements creating certain “problems” to the thread, and that the low participation can help amplify those problems, I can see that the first question on my reply to you can be seen as a little bit too limiting or off putting. Though I always thought that one should recommend something they believe they really like, and because they see that additional something on it, no matter the reason, they would want others to hear it.

The additional category question was because I was just thinking on the observation you made, that one has some songs that probably just speak to us, because of the emotional connection to a part of a show. So I decided to ask if it was a good idea that one informs that info in case it seems relevant for the one posting, or just something that the one posting would like to add (just because). I don’t really know if that is something good to add, but if others think it is good additional info, I wouldn’t mind it (as most of the info given is optional anyway).

On the second point, I think that you analyze things in a serious way then, which is a good trait in my book. As like I said, there is good information to have from that.

5) Song: “Heaven's not enough”
Artist: Steve Conte
Anime: Wolf’s Rain OST
Genre: Soft Pop rock
Vibe: Melancholic
Comment: I believe this is a second version, I don’t know if the one (I believe in the first episode) perfomed by a female singer (the composer Yoko Kanno) uses the same lyrics, as it appears it was never released in a full song. But this version with the heaven is not enough lyrics works in the context of the anime, and steven conte does a good job. Though it would have been nice to be able to compare the two versions.

List # 9

1) Song: "Lilium"
Artist: Kumiko Noma
Anime: Elfen Lied Op
Genre: Don’t know the correct name of the genre, but the artist is an opera singer, so it has that component.
Vibe:
Comment: Just something peculiar that I wanted to add; The ed song “Be your Girl” from Elfen Lied has a similar vibe to an avril lavigne song (imo), so if you like those kind of songs, go check it out.

2) Song: "Bungaku Shoujo”
Artist: Hikasa Youko
Anime: Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (Daily Lives of High School Boys) Ed 1
Genre: slow melodial “easy listening”
Vibe: Has a melancholic tone and has a music box kind of vibe.
Comment: This is a second version, as it is the same song from Ed 1 but performed by the voice of the character in the anime, Yassan. (I liked this one better)

**I got to say this, the next three are one of those types of songs that you immediately know they are from an specific era.

3) Song: "Ai yo Far Away"
Artist: Rie Fujiwara
Anime: Choujuu Kishin Dancougar (Super Bestial Machine God Dancougar) Op
Genre: 70-80s J Pop
Vibe:
Comment: Didn’t know about this anime but somehow heard this song a couple of years ago, and it just has some nostalgic element (that’s kind of the same for the next two songs, though for those I remember I saw at least a couple of episodes of the anime (not when it aired though)).

4) Song: "Chikyuu ni I Love You”

List # 10

1) Song: “Kiseki”
Artist: Rie Takahashi (Takagi-san)
Anime: Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san 2 (Teasing Master Takagi-san) Ed3
Genre: J Pop
Vibe:
Comment: This is a cover, the original artist is GReeeeN I believe. If you like this kind of songs, hear the other endings. (For example one of them is “Ai Uta” from season one, and it is another cover from GReeeen.)

2) Song: “Endless History (The Morning Grow)"
Artist: Falcom Sound Team jdk • Shoko Minami
Anime: Ys Ed
Genre: Rock pop, rock metal pop
Vibe: Has a “fairy tale rock tone”.

3) Song: “Himeboshi -Omou Kokoro-“
Artist: Yuki Kajiura
Anime: Mai-HiME (My-Hime) OST
Genre: Don’t know the name of the genre but this also has the opera component
Vibe:
Comment: Didn’t see Mai-Hime because I don’t like those types of anime, but if you like songs like this one, there are other good ones in the ost (for example Mezame), the artist is great and has other songs. It is interesting that apparently the “language” of the lyrics are totally made up by the artist.

4) Song: “You (Vocal Version)”
Song artist link: “You (Vocal Version)”
Artist: dai
Anime: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When They Cry) Ost
Genre: Soft pop
Vibe: Nice “simple” melodies accompanied with a melancholic voice
Comment: I don’t really know if this song is from that anime specifically (I don’t really remember if it was from that season) or a visual novel. But it appears (or a version of it) on the last episode of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sotsu (latest one), which I didn’t watch as I just watched the older ones. I added the artist link (apparently) just because I prefer those (for the copyright problems) but didn't want to delete the other one.

5) Song: "Takusu mono he (My Dear)"
Artist: Matsuzawa Yumi
Anime: Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Inferno
Genre: J soft Pop
Vibe: Nice easy going melancholic tones.
Comment: I have some other saint seiya songs, but thought to start with this one, which for me, it is not of the more common ones. Two songs that I think are similar to this one from the show are "Kimi To Onaji Aozora - (The Same Blue Sky as You)" by Yumi Matsuzawa and "Kami no En ~ Del Regno" by Yuuko Ishibashi (I think I need to put at least this last one on a future list though)

List #11

1) Song: “Pegasus Fantasy”
Artist: MAKE-UP
Anime: Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac) Op 1
Genre: Hard Rock, Metal rock
Vibe:
Comment: This is one of the few that the lyrics tell you from what show it is, but I would think it is kind of a classic ("... well it’s an oldie where I come from"), and if you like hard rock and some metal its an easy pick. I don't know if these two songs are the exact versions of the show, but I liked these ones, and thought the videos sounded good. An interesting thing about saint seiya is that in some parts of the world it was known just as Knights of the Zodiac, and didn't have this song as the op of course. In the USA one had a cover from "I ran (So Far Away)" by Bowling for Soup (original from A Flock of Seagulls), if I am not mistaken.

2) Song: "Yume Tabibito: Blue Dream"
Artist: Hironobu Kageyama & Broadway
Anime: Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac) Ed 2
Genre: Rock, soft rock metal
Vibe: Its a rock ballad

3) Song: “All Alone With You"
Artist: EGOIST
Anime: Psycho-Pass Ed 2
Genre: Heavy Rock Pop, alternative rock
Vibe: It has a saturated distorted and a hard rock element in it, but the voice with the melody "softens it" and complements it to evoke that melancholy feel.

**For the next two songs I got to give a shoutout to @WillWel, as his post introduced me to the Pillows and that’s why these two songs are here.

4) Song: “Thank you, my twilight (Fool on cool Version)”
Artist: The Pillows
Anime: FLCL Progressive / Alternative OST
Genre: Rock, alternative rock, grunge rock
Vibe:

5) Song: "Bran-New lovesong"
Artist: The Pillows
Anime: FLCL
Genre: Rock, alternative rock, grunge rock
Vibe: it has saturated sound with reverb that gives a melancholic vibe
Comment: If you like these 2 songs by The Pillows, check out their music. I am just putting 2 right now, but I could easily add more from the ost. Just in case some are curious on other songs from them I'll put a couple Crazy sunshine, Hybrid Rainbow, Patricia, Little busters.

Anime: Nabari no ou Op
Genre: Pop Rock, Alternative Rock, punk grunge rock

2) Song: "Kaze no You na Kimi de Ite (You're like the wind)”
Artist: Halo
Anime: Yume de Aetara (TV) (If I See You in My Dreams) Ed
Genre: Soft Pop Rock
Vibe:
Comment: I don’t really remember this anime (so I would think I didn’t think it was good at the time), but I thought the song had something and gave a certain nostalgia.

3) Song: “Haru ni Ochite (Fall in Spring)"
Artist: Kano
Anime: Shiyan Pin Jiating (Frankenstein Family) Ed
Genre: J soft Pop
Vibe: Like the soft melodies and tones, which are helped by the soft voice in giving that melancholic feel.
Link 2:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNzcxbzXwpU
Comment: If you like Kano, other good songs I know are "How are you", “Decide” and “Nee/Hey”.

4) Song: "Walk"
Artist: Vickeblanca
Anime: Shikioriori (Flavors of Youth) Ed
Genre: J Pop
Vibe: Also has nice melodic tones and the voice also works well to give a nostalgic feel.

5) Song: “Chikyuugi”
Artist: Yumi Matsuzawa
Anime: Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter – Sanctuary Op
Genre: J Pop, pop rock (for new version)
Vibe: It has a melancholic vibe, and another in which the voice really makes it stand out.
Comment: I don’t think this is the exact version of the show, as the guitar has a hard rock sound on this one, but I think it works.

Genre: Indie pop rock
Vibe:
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRz4kfAZwko
Link2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePKL6dwlOj8
Comments: The second link is the part where you find the song in the anime. I am putting that link because I liked the version in the anime more, but I don’t know if that version was recorded, and I think this is a good version too. I think this is a cover, as I found other older folks sang this song.

4) Song: Good Dreams
Artist: Micc (Miku Sasao) (Anime character: Yasuko)
Anime: Mahoutsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora (Someday's Dreamers II: Sora) OST
Genre: Indie Rock Pop
Vibe: It has a slow punk rock vibe to it, which goes well with her voice.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78lLvLbmM08
Comments: I understand this is a cover from a (rock, punk, british blues) band called the Roosterz

5) Song: Aozora no marie

Hi Chiyomi, just wanted to ask if the 4th song should be "MAYDAY feat. Ryo from CRYSTAL LAKE" by Coldrain, or if the song is correct and the anime, I think, should be Rainbow?

With that, I just want to warn others; If you are relaxed drinking hot coffee or tea, be careful with the beginning of that song "Were not Alone" by Coldrain, lets say, it can surprise you, lol.

Vibe: Has a fairy tale fantasy feeling.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUFOdRYhDEg

Comment: The second link is because you have the instrumental track too, which is nice if you like the song.

4) Song: Broken Camera
Artist: Ji-Zo
Anime: Geneshaft Ed 1
Genre: Indie rock, Classic rock
Vibe:
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTey9W1xhDo
Comments: This anime has a lot of classic rock, hard rock songs (mostly instrumentals) on its OST, so check them out if you like that.

5) Song: Rainbow
Artist: ROUND TABLE feat. Nino
Anime: Aria the Animation Ed
Genre: Soft Pop
Vibe: Soothing voice and nice instrumental melodies.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV8kiPG7TfE
Link 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP1cp-BSwYA
Comment: First link is the anime version, the second one is the acoustic version (it seems like it just takes out the drumbeats). Have not seen the anime, but discussing with SixofQueens about some songs, Aria the Animation came to the equation, and heard this song. Aria the animation has some other nice tracks (for soothing, nice and calm atmosphere), so if you like this one check them out.

Thanks for reminding me yesterday.
I wanted to change it actually, but forgot in the meanwhile because I got occupied otherwise (my brothers birthdayparty and my ongoing renovation of my apartment).
I did make a mistake there, maybe because both songs reminded me of each other (I heared "We're not alone" before watching Fire Force and when I heared the intro of FF I thought "oh, i heared something from them recently" and looked up the band. :D).

That's why - for now - I replaced it with something else I like to listen too in the past few days, as I went to the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie a week and half ago and enjoyed the music there and added the music to my playlist.

List # 15

1) Song: Grand Escape (feat. Toko Miura)
Artist: Radwimps
Anime: Weathering with You OST
Genre: J Indie Pop
Vibe: Like the instrumental melody and in combination with the voice helps gives a melancholic feel.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saDmN2f3HI0

2) Song: Daybreak’s Bell
Artist: L'arc~en~Ciel
Anime: Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Op
Genre: Rock, Modern rock
Vibe: It has a nostalgic melody with a rock sound combined with a good voice.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VF6epJfbd1k

3) Song: Hikari naki Yoru wo Yuke (Tread the Endless Night)
Artist: Humming Bird
Anime: Karakurizoushi Ayatsuri Sakon Op
Genre: Rock
Vibe: It has a classic rock flavor with a good singer.

Link2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA__lbcnohM
Link3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0otUTGPkg
Comment: I added three versions just because they are kind of different. And if you like the song, you will probably like the three of them. The first one is the original from the anime and the second one is a re-mix from the artist. The third one is a live version, with just the singer and a acoustic electric guitar (if someone could create some tabs for it, it would be great, maybe I can start learning guitar again, lol). I like to put the link from an “official” link because they will not be removed by copyrights.

4) Song: Kanaete (Grant my Wish)
Artist: Akino Arai
Anime: Karakurizoushi Ayatsuri Sakon Ed
Genre: Slow indie J Pop (don’t really know what genre is this)
Vibe: Slow instrumental melodies with a nice soothing voice that gives a haunting ambiance.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QUv0_aYVlc

5) Song: Sayonara wa Iwanaide
Artist: Kokia
Anime: Karakurizoushi Ayatsuri Sakon OST
Genre: Slow J indie pop (Don’t really know what genre is this)
Vibe: Similar to Kanaete in the sense of the haunting mood but also has a “traditional” tone because of some of the instruments used.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYtskgU6uIc
Comments: If you like this one, Kokia has another song that has a haunting tone called "Fukurou" not related to anime though.

My playlist on spotify grew a lot in the past few months and I am always listening to it when I go for a longer walk. But most of them aren't related to anime, but are from bands and artist who do Animeopenings/-endings occasionally.

But I also found some animesongs among them:

Song: Hadaka no Yuusha
Artist: Vaundy
Anime: Ousama Ranking (2nd Opening)
Genre: J-Pop/Rock

Song: Vivid Vice
Artist: Who-ya Extended
Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen (2nd Opening)
Genre: J-Rock

Song: Goya No Machiawase
Artist: Hello Sleepwalkers
Anime: Noragami (First season)
Genre: J-Rock

Song: TBD
Artist: (K)NoW_NAME
Anime: Spy x Family (5th Episode)
Genre: Some kind of Rockmusic

Song: scaPEGoat
Artist: Hiroyuki Sawano

List #16

1) Song: Brave Song
Artist: Aoi Tada
Anime: Angel Beats Ed 1
Genre: J pop
Vibe: It has melancholic vibe.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL1IocKVqs8
Comment: I added that live version cause that’s the one I found that probably will last longer without problems, but if I find a better one I will add it. I had to add this one, because even if the anime has certain what’s going on there, I think of it as a well known one (then again that might just be my impression). Another song that is nice from the series, is the ed2, Ichiban no Takaramono (Yui final ver.) ed2.

2) Song: Yume no Naka e
Artist: Enomoto Atsuko and Suzuki Chihiro
Anime: Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances) Ed 1
Genre: J pop
Vibe: For me it gives a certain nostalgia.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk7DXo72dgQ
Comment: I think I just saw like 2 or 3 episodes of this anime, but kind of liked the song, find it kind of catchy. And it just gives the vibe of a certain era. A fun fact for the ed is that in the first episode you only hear the female voice in the song, but after that one you hear both. Another thing that I remember from the show is that the previews showed the actresses, which in my case, it was the first one that I saw doing that.

3) Song: Abnormalize
Artist: Ling Tosite Sigure
Anime: Psychopass Op
Genre: Progressive rock, post hardcore (just in case you were like me asking, “what the heck is post hardcore”, it is supposedly a type of punk rock genre, lol)
Vibe: Energetic and chaotic, with soothing voices.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLKf8yLL-aY

4) Song: Moonlight Walk
Artist: Poppin’ Party
Anime: Shinka no Mi Ed
Genre: Hard Rock pop
Vibe:
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MOFLR7mI94
Comment: This is one case where I didn’t know it was in an anime, so I don’t know anything of the anime but thought the song was ok.

5) Song: Gymnopédie No. 1 • Erik Satie
Artist: Erik Satie
Anime: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya OST
Genre: Classical Music
Vibe: Melancholic but kind of relaxing
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMnxjdGTK4w
Comment: I have not added any instrumentals, but I thought that I had to add this one.

List # 17

1) Song: "LilaS"
Artist:  SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]: Honoka Takahashi
Anime: 86 Part 2 ed 3
Genre: Soft pop, electronic, Orchestral
Vibe: It has that melancholic vibe with ambiance.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfOsUNxc2Xg
Comment: Have not seen the anime, but liked the song.

2) Song:  Watamote ED1 (Yuu Ver.)
Artist: Yuu-chan CV: Hanazawa Kana
Anime: Watamote OST
Genre: J pop
Vibe: Has a vocaloidy vibe with a nostalgic element.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqJrOkUecVc
Comment: I don’t know but I liked this song for some reason, I think it’s not even on the anime, but I heard it and liked it, the one in the anime is funny and sad because of the voice of the actress and the mood.  For some reason the lyrics for this one are kind of relatable (in case the translation is good, lol), thinking of times that were simpler that when you start “growing up” they lose that “simplicity”. I don’t remember the anime that much (but I think I didn’t like some stuff if I recall) though I remember I enjoyed the ova where she gets the keys for the school rooftop.

3) Song: I REALLY WANT TO STAY AT YOUR HOUSE
Artist:  Rosa Walton & Hallie Coggins
Anime: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners OST
Genre: Electronic Pop
Vibe: The soft voice and melody gives a melancholic feeling
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzbLODUb1sA
Comment: If you like the song, hear the acoustic cover by lunity (I landed on that cover when looking for the song, and thought I would mention it), I found it to be good, as part of why I like the song is the soft voice and the melody.
*Additional very good covers I have listened to in youtube are from Samuel Kim Music and from Levi Doron. If you like 80s beats listen the Levi Doron one. If you like the orchestral instrumental aspect more, hear the Samuel Kim Music one (liked this one a lot and he also has a instrumental Hiroyuki sawano style one, so hear that one too).

** For the next two I will cheat a little bit, because these are not in the anime (at least for now), but I would think they will be. Though even if they do not include them, they are part of the world of NieR:Automata Ver1.1ª in some way, and they are very good songs (imo). I can have some problems with the story and some tropes, but it has some very good songs.

4) Song: Kainé/Salvation (Emil's Memories)
Artist:  keiichi okabe monaca
Anime: NieR:Automata Ver1.1ª (Nier Automata, Nier Replicant)
Genre: Orchestral
Vibe: The melodies and the voice work together to create a melancholic mood.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FP4duz43t_A
Comment: As I recall, the song in the game is kind of memorable, cause the place where it happens has very nice mood and scenery. Thankfully my prediction was good, as in the anime it can be found in ep 8, when they find the lunar tear, if I recall.

5) Song: Emil/Sacrifice
Artist:  keiichi okabe monaca
Anime: NieR:Automata Ver1.1ª OST (Nier Automata, Nier Replicant)
Genre: Orchestral
Vibe: Like the one before, the melodies of the instrument and the voice gives it a very melancholic vibe.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuRaSC_0wsY
Comment: This one remind me of that song in Empire of the Sun Suo Gân (lullaby). (As I suspected, the song appears on ep 5 in the flashback)
* I wanted to add that if you like this song there is a cover in youtube by RIO's Flute, "Emil Sacrifice / Flute & Piano", very good instrumental cover. If you like that style that channel has many songs.

I'll try to follow the formatting, and also sorry if I post one that's already been stated.

List #1

1) Song: Ash-like Snow
Artist: (K)NoW_NAME
Anime: Fairy Gone
Genre: Pop-rock
Vibe: Upbeat, positive
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSxAA5XX6SU
Comment: I like this one a lot, it was the first song from an anime that I hunted down on Spotify and became the bases for a playlist that I curate slowly. Takes me back to when I was just another dreamy high-schooler who fell in love with the soundtrack to Rent.

2) Song: "Gurenge"
Artist: LiSA
Anime: Demon Slayer
Genre: pop-rock
Vibe: Intense, fun
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmanD_s7G3U / https://open.spotify.com/track/0nUKU6e9COOCgO5tAUtlST?si=37090d22344a4bf0
Comment: Who didn't love this song? But I gotta say, Demon Slayer only uses part of this track, and I really like the full track which I've linked above (Spotify link)

3) Song: Kanata Haluka
Artist: RADWIMPS
Anime: Suzume
Genre: Laid back listening, Indie post-punk
Vibe: Bittersweet, nostalgic, positive
Link: https://youtu.be/Mt3kQI38zXk?si=h2g7kGFtSVmom3Eo
Comment: This song played over the credits for Suzume. I loved that film, and def cried at the end, so maybe my interest in the song is biased 😅

That's all for now 😊

Because it has been a long time and things have been silent, I thought I could “raise the volume” a little bit, so I will put the 7 songs from K-On! that I added to the anime song mix that I am listening these days, instead of just adding 5 (from "the rules"). Don’t know if Iam liking these songs just because I liked the anime, but I think that Yui’s voice (the one that sounds more “childlike” of the 2 main voices) just gives a certain nostalgic feel for me in these songs, even if Moi’s voice may have a “mellower” tone. Though I liked the version of Fude Pen Boru Pen done by both over the one that is performed predominantly by Yui.

1) Name: Fude pen Boru pen
Band: Houkago Teatime
Anime: K-On!
Genre: J-Pop/Rock
Vibe:
