I finally took the time this past week to finish this series. In case most didn't know, this series actually has 24 episodes on Netflix. I knew for a good year that there were other episodes, but just never stopped to finish it at the time.

Ultimately, this is an anime with a western audience in mind. As for someone who's watched a lot less anime over the years, I've rather enjoyed being able to watch something that's aimed a bit more for me. I said before in a review that this show really felt like it belonged on a prime time television block. The notes the director made about it being an expensive anime to animate made sense since there were a lot of edits and shots that really felt like a live action show would have done great with.

If they had a full 45minute to an hour time block, I really feel like the story would have been a bit more interesting. James Blood could have had a little more character than just "hot headed action hero" along with Sarah's serious and flat composure. I remember being genuinely sad at the whole Monica story since it clearly showed that these characters cared for her and the visuals showed that well. So that at least they did well with. Sucks that Henry couldn't get his happy ending too.

I'm a bit curious on what others thought of the series as a whole. I do hope they bring the characters back in a movie or another spin off series. It's hard to make an action crime drama sometimes when you only can tell one story or have such limited screen time. I don't think this series needs an NCIS or Law and Order never ending story, but a good couple season primetime series could have made the world and characters shine.

Until then, I hope that I'll be able to find the manga translated eventually (cuz apparently that's a thing I want to read!)

I really wanted to like series but i couldn't find myself to invest in it. It was interesting at first but after every ep it became more and more boring. it's not that series is bad or plot sucks, actually premise is kinda interesting and as OP said sound and animation is good too (most of the time).
I think characters were the weakest link cause they were there just for the sake of story progression and didn't feel real. It could have been lot more interesting if they had tried different approach for execution

And as far OP's mention about this anime aimed to be at western audience, I'm just copy pasting a line fom 2nd review.
a) A big (and very vocal) part of the anime fandom don’t like their anime to be “tainted” by any kind of Western influence and b) A lot of anime fans dislike big changes and series that try to break out of the norm.
So kinda obvious western influence and Netflix tag put off large portion of anime base.

It is shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult.

I liked it a lot in the beginning, but it started to test my patience as it went on with 1 word: "Incompetence." For what appears to be a police state and all the sophisticated tech they have, the SSC sure are a useless bunch.

Why couldn't they send any backup to help escort Edmond and the other guy back to HQ instead of him trying drive back alone? Is James the only field agent they have? Not even a couple of beat cops to help? I get they wanted them to remain hidden but come on, it was never going to play out like that, especially with a noob like Edmond.

Fred Faraday was really when I threw my hands up and began to lose interest. Once again, they have a very important witness, one who is set to blow the whole case open and nail the bad guys once and for all, and he's obviously in serious danger based on the outrageous attack on the apartment a short time ago. But then they simply walk him out the front door with no protection. ABSOLUTELY NO COVER WHATSOEVER. Just 4-5 people out in the open taking a stroll and spaced apart from each other by practically miles. Then everybody is a surprised pikachu when the obvious happens.

Then there was all the cannon fodder in the hospital. The action and bloodshed were nice but dozens of officers not being able to hit 4 people practically standing still was dumb.

They also incorporated the lame ultra-zoomed-in fast cuts in the fights, and Sarah's "pin the clues on the donkey" whiteboard scenes were too long and didn't offer anything of substance.

I didn't mind the show being Western influenced, but it felt like they used all the bad aspects of it.
