First of all, this thread is a test. Depending on how good it ''works'', i'll keep it up or delete it.
This is NOT a thread about Drama-Romance anime. This Thread is about Romance Anime that were disappointing or extremely sad for some reason.
Also, please don't come asking if a certain anime has a ''disappointing'' romance.
If you're gonna write about an anime, please give a detailed explanation on why you felt like that. If you, for example, only write the name of the anime i'll delete your post.
Well,it was more than satisfying romance-wise and it was really an epic journey,i would dare to say it was a masterpiece so it was not "disappointing"...
But last episode the main girl died so it counts as "extremely sad" in my book...If anyone wants to watch some epicness and good romance despite knowing that, just go watch it...
Oh wow, I really wanted to watch Katanagatari. I'm glad I know about this beforehand now :(
Here's mine: Soukou no Strain.
It's mainly an action/mecha anime where there's a huge war going on in space between two factions. The reasons for the war were not thoroughly explained; in the anime they just say that it has been going on for centuries and it has to do with territory disputes. However, the war is not the main focus of the anime, but what happens inside one of these factions.
The MC is a girl (Sara) who's very talented with piloting these war robots called "Strains". On the first episode, she is shown to have a normal, happy and fulfilling high school life with 3 best friends who are also very talented pilots. Now, one of them is a guy who had decided to confess his love for her on that day, and it is heavily hinted that Sara also likes him back. Sara wants to become a full-fledged pilot as quickly as possible so she can join her brother in the war, because he's all the family she has left and wants to stay near him. Now, that night, right before childhood guy friend confesses to her they both notice that an attack has started in the town. Sara is the leader type, so she immediately took action and ran with the guy behind her to get into their Strains and defend the town. On the way, her other two best friends also joined in. Now here's the first sad part: an enemy Strain kills all of her best friends, and when it was about to kill Sarah the childhood guy friend got in the way to protect her. Needless to say he died at that moment T^T Sara was in shock and rage and followed the enemy Strain, only to find out that the pilot was none other than her dear older brother :O From this point on, the anime is mainly about Sara trying to find out why her brother is a traitor and what what happened to make him kill the people in the town, including her best friends and crush, and why he even tried to kill her. She enrolls in another school under a false name to hide her background, so she could continue with her search.
Other things happen in the anime, and it is filled with both happy and sad moments. Of course there's also the progression of the search to try to find out what happened to her brother, etc. During this time she slowly starts making friends again. Among them is a guy who reminds her of her dead childhood guy friend, who also happens to start falling in love with her. At the second half of the anime, they almost shared a kiss but sadly got interrupted. Now this is what made me really sad and almost drop the anime: after this, on that same night, her brother shows up again and launches yet another attack, and ends up killing this guy too. I mean, seriously, her "dear" brother kills both of her love interests right after they have tried to confess to her!!! That's so unfair!!! ;A;
Zetsuen no Tempest
- Not a sad ending. I repeat, not a sad ending. Just heart-touching sad romance... highly recommended
MC's beloved girlfriend is dead, apparently murdered from the start. As the anime unfolds, they show more and more warm moments the MC had with his dead girlfriend, the pain he felt when he found out she was killed the night before a promised date.....
It ends with him deciding to go with another girl who has completely helplessly fallen for him- so ending is good
Someone write about elfen lied, and angel beats, since I haven' watched em, but know they've got sad endings
Akame ga kill
-Not that much romance, but the anime is sad as a whole, which makes the little romance that it has also sad,
sad ending as well. Everybody dies, except the character who the anime is named after, i.e Akame- and she's not the main protagonist either!
The MC is a guy named Tatsumi, who :
1- Is taken prisoner, by the main villain as she has fallen in love with him
2- Receives a dying confession from a team mate
3- Dies along with the main villain, after promising that he wouldn't die...

I really recommend the manga if you were attached to the series ^^, the anime takes its own path after Chelsea (or something like that)'s death.
-The ending is not sad or traumatizing! Just wanted to point that out quickly~
I started out this series very interested, and the premise is very unique. Kakeru commits suicide, and his friends have gone on in life regretting their decisions, thinking 'if there was only some way we could have saved him.' They are given a new chance after receiving letters from their future selves, guiding them along a better path.
I kind of fell off after not enjoying the progression, and maybe I didn't like Naho? I can't really pinpoint why I found it disappointing, just that I know that I was extremely disappointed. I had actually dropped the manga, and since I enjoy anime more, I wanted to give it another try. I honestly liked the friendship between Suwa and Kakeru a lot more than the romance between Kakeru and Naho.
