I've been on an anime binge recently and I definitely need some help on finding great shows with a good romantic base. I've watched a good amount of shows that are purely romance + SOL in a school setting and I've gotten a bit tired of them atm. It's still one of my favorite genres but I feel like taking a bit of break from it (unless you know of a spectacular one I haven't watched yet). Look at my list to see the ones that I've watched already.

I just finished Cross Game (which was amazing) and I'm really looking for shows that have a decent/good romantic base but have "something else" involved like action/thriller/sports/fantasy/music/twist/etc. I'd like the romance to have depth to it but I can't be too picky as there might not be too many left. It'd be nice for it to be addicting to watch (not necessarily simple but engrossing) because I can lose interest at times. And not a ridiculous # of episodes hopefully like 50ish max. A few of my favorites are below.

Angel Beats
AnoHana
Clannad
Cross Game
Mirai Nikki
Nodame Cantabile
Sakamichi no Apollon
SAO
Spice & Wolf
Steins;Gate
Toradora
TTGL
World God Only Knows
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru
Zero no Tsukaima

I'm thinking about Chihayafuru and maybe GoSick (didn't seem as addicting to me at first). I'm also watching Katanagatari but slowly. I have Fate/Zero on my list but I'm waiting for the dub to finish first. I'd really like some other suggestions and to discover some other hidden gems.

You should try :
- Shuffle
- Aku no hana ( Different drawing style )
- Code geass ( Not based on romance though but very addicting )
- True tears
- Aquarion evol ( Mecha but pretty addicting )
- High school of the dead
- Infinite stratos
- Blood lad ( very addicting but not only romance )

.. I can give you others only if you liked those though (:

You should try Ranma 1/2. It's like Inuyasha, but better.
The more you know, the more you don't know, you know?

Thanks for some of the recs guys. I've actually watched a lot of the shows you're talking about. I started Honey and Clover but didn't like it that much. I'll probably pick it back up some time in the future. I guess that the anime doesn't have to be "addicting" but engrossing is the better term for it. I'm a little tired of purely slice of life in a high school romance with nothing else behind it. As I said, I just watched Cross Game and I was blown away. I'm honestly thinking of watching Touch right now but 101 episodes + movies are intimidating.

Try Amagami SS. It has a sequel Amagami SS+

It is a romance in school, slice of life, I really enjoyed it and didn't see it on your list.

It says harem, but it's not. It's based of a video game, so it has arcs.

For the first season, the female heroines have 4 episodes each I believe, then they switch over to another girl and let her have her arcs.
