How Did You Become Furry or Gain Interest In The Fandom?

What the title says. How did you learn about the furry fandom, and what made you join it? Or, what made you become a fan of furries if anything? Or what caused your interest in it? Ect. You get the idea.
As for me, twas' the Star Fox video games. I became obsessed with them after playing Starfox Adventures in late 2012. I started looking up Starfox, and somehow or another that brought me to the furry fandom. I actually learned about the fandom long before Starfox though, shortly after I gained home access to the internet back in late 2011. Back then, I was a big fan of the cartoon "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic". Some people called fans of that show "furries in denial" or "bronies are even worse than furries", which likely led me to looking up furries. I found that there was a lot of people who hated the furry fandom, mostly seemingly because of the pornographic content within the fandom, which I decided I didn't really have a problem with nor do I understand why people have a problem with it. I mean, people can like what they like long as it doesn't hurt anyone, right? I also understood that the fandom had plenty more than just porn. Still, I was only curious about the fandom at the time, thinking it was cool, but I moved away from it until I became a Starfox fan. Well, that's my story. So...what's your story, if you have one?

Well, my story is a little shorter. Like many, I watched the looney tunes, Disney movies, and several other animated series with anthropomorphic characters during my childhood, but the turning point would be when I was in high school (about 2004-2007). At that time I was a member of an otherkin/werewolf forum where I first heard the term and several months later, while looking for images, I ended up in FA. The rest is history.

I watched plenty of cartoons with anthropomorphic characters in them as well, and still do. I never really thought of them as the reason why I might be in this fandom though. And even my love of cartoons didn't really start until I got internet access at home, which was very recent. I only got internet in late 2011, so having sudden access to all the world and a huge amount of new ideas, it wasn't until then that I started to appreciate cartoons or anything in them. It was the internet that helped me realize that I loved cartoons, loved anthropomorphic creatures, and loved a whole lot of other things too. I probably wouldn't know much about anime either if it wasn't for the internet.

Well for me I saw many of the art that people made and animes that focus on this so that is how I got into it. Heck even my username it shows and my pic is a furry.

I blame my transformation fetish and my (later furry) friend introducing me to DeviantArt. It all kinda happened naturally from there. >.>

i found a show called my strange addiction with a episode about furries and i did research on google and learned that its really about being whp u truly are inside and i just new i was a fox on the inside and now i feel like i dont have to hide that anymore and i can wear my ears and tail in public and not care what people think because its the real me

Well, for me the appeal was sorta related to a lot of what's appealing about anime to me. Furry characters just seem really cute and huggable to me, I love the fluff
Plus the community is really accepting and gives people a lot of room to explore themselves, and I think that's played a large role, particularly with lgbt people. Fursonas are ways people can represent themselves in new ways for example.

Many of my favorite games and shows as a kid had anthros. What got me into the furry fandom was when I met someone who was very similar to me and he was a furry. I wish I knew what a furry was when I was younger.
