Highschool of the dead, is that that one where in the first 5 minutes a chick got punched and her shirt exploded? Caused I watched half an episode of some anime with my girlfriend and she turned it off caused she hated the sexual humor. Cause I legit lol'd at that scene. But she didn't appreciate it. But it could have been that one, I could never remember what it was.

Also Elfen Lied was one I looked into. It looked really interesting. o:

Good one to start out with would be Accel World or Sword Art Online.

EDIT: But truthfully the best way to start out watching anime is to go look up some anime, read the descriptions and if it sounds interesting watch it. Whether it is good or bad you need to start gaining experience with anime so you will know what you like and want to watch in the future.

Heads up, Elfen Lied is not good.
Characters are horrible.
Characters are everything in an anime and the plot in Elfen Lied...dear God. One of the worst out there.

In my opinion, but everyone I talk to, In real life, says its just as horrible.

All Elfen Lied is naked girls that look cute, don't make sense and kill shit. Your girlfriend would not like it. Oh, and there's incest. Not sure if you're into that.

Seconding the statement that Elfen Lied is terrible. Lynn Okamoto should be shot for writing nothing but horrendous manga since the beginning of his career, which often times make me question why I read his works and the director of Elfen Lied should be thrown down a well until he starves to death, because he managed to transform a piece of shit into what seemed like the after effect of explosive diarrhea.

1st point Characters are Horrible. Most of the Character have psychological issues(you watched Mirai Nikki and liked that similar idea). The Characters are really well written and really clear there personalty's and idea's. How can you say they are horrible.

2nd you say no plot. Some people think about it in this way "tragedies of Shakespeare and Ancient Greece" is some what valid. But to be clear the plot is a hate war between two races. The way they do it is exploring the dark side of human nature and how it affects them.(and some light sides as well).

Last you mention the nudity it is there. They are not that cute 1. Much of the nudity is symbolism. Just cause we see marrying you cousin as incest many other places don't it is very much a culture thing if you don't see that. Don't enjoy good anime's cause of that.

I can't even begin to take PoisonedTea seriously. The worst thing about Elfen Lied was the characterizations and their development, which to him are well written and I actually laughed when I read, "much of the nudity is symbolism." But then again a person who spells 'personalities,' "personality's" and 'ideas,' "idea's" shouldn't ever be taken seriously.

Also,
Hellsing Ultimate, the characters aren't especially cute, but they are appealing, and it's only a short OVA series of 10 episode (although they are 40 minutes each?)
Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai, comedy and harem, though not in the usual way, only slight ecchi from time to time (2 seasons, 24 episodes total)
Steins;Gate, it's pretty lowkey for the first half, comedy sometimes based around pervertedness, and then after some revelations it gets really exciting (24 episodes)
Redline, an amazing movie, the animation is superb, all hand-drawn I believe
Jormungand, pretty great action, sometimes has ecchi-ish scenes, and the characters are all pretty likeable (2 seasons, 24 episodes in total)

and sorry for having to deal with immature people who can't take their opinions elsewhere.

maybe nichijou? if u havent seen it, I reccomend Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou too, that shits hilarious.

If you are going to think in that way I can tell you good things always have Hate. Many times they are more Loud about it. I don't why but they don't want other people to like what they don't like. They are not trying to save you they just enjoy hating on this thing.

:l I wasn't disregarding anyone's point. But the mixture of responses has me confused. That's all. I'm brand new to anime, so this is literally my first real discussion about it. I never agreed to anyone being hateful. I guess the discussion caused a rift, which is what I was afraid would happen.

The way I look at it is everyone is correct in their opinion. I have quite a list to go through, so I think its just the point where I look into all of them myself and form an opinion. that's all o:

Mate, if you;re starting with the anime now, I suggest you throw an eye to the classics first. I mean the best way to completely evaluate the anime and manga. Only if you're interested, that is :P

And on this point I might suggest
Higurashi no naku koro ni
Gankutsuou
Speed grapher
Evangelion
Elfen lied(good or bad, it;s a classic in the genre so it's a must ;p)

Well there are more, but I think those are a good start. Just if you're interested in anime/manga as a whole of course ;p
Otherwise, if you're looking for flashy new animes it's not such a good worthy idea :3
