I checked older topics of this kind but each of them either had anime I've finished or I wasn't interested in or didn't fulfil my expectations. I have, sort of, two requests which were caused by several anime I finished recently that had useless female characters and I need to compensate now. XD

1.) Calm, strong and/or calculative female MC (stronger than male MC) or main villain. (if you could write which it is that would be great) She doesn't have to be primary MC.

What I want it to be: A female MC that's very strong either mentally or physically and is more or equally useful as male MC. She can train male MC or have a romantic relationship with him UNLESS it's all about the male MC getting someone over his league. Preferably if she isn't OP.

What I don't want it to be: Love-sick female or whiny female that is useful only occasionally (even if she's overpowered), side character (unless she appears really often), tsundere, pure fap material and love-hate relationship.

IDC about genre, just not SoL from present, harem, pseudo-harem (like SAO or bunch of stereotyped girls around male MC to attract audience), rom-com or hentai. Ecchi is fine if it isn't overdone. If there are more female characters like that in a show, that's great.

Examples: Kino (Kino's Journey), about every female character in Claymore, Koko (Jormungand) or Alphard (Canaan).

2.) Same as above BUT the said female gets the guy. Even better if he isn't interested in her at all at first. Whether it is the MC or simply a random guy she has a crush on doesn't matter as long as he appears frequently and the relationship is developed on screen. Ideally if they are on different sides. Requirements for the female MC are THE SAME. This can be seriously any genre but hentai, ecchi and harem.

Example: Princess Tutu (can't think of anything else)

Note: It can be on my PTW list and, please, don't just recommend everything you think of, I'm asking about recommendations because I'm busy and can't do the research myself. I'd rather get a few recs I might like than 20 out of which I might like just one.
Also, I'd prefer if it was finished or on-going planned-to-be short anime. (Ideally up to 26 eps but if it perfectly fits my request then any length is fine.)
My list: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/HikaruIzumi

Anime I'm not interested in: Elfen Lied, Guilty Crown and Accel World. (Not sure if there are strong female characters in the latter two but just in case.)

Thank you for help and your time.

BTW don't bother recommending Inferno Cop, I'm already aware of its epicness.

Maybe Ben-To.
Will say some rather over the top ecchi parts, but the female MC is rather calm but also strong and pretty much helps the male MC train.

You ma'am, is awesome :)

Just this once, I'll fulfill whatever your wish is.

Guilty Crown definitely doesn't have a strong female lead. I guess Birdy the mighty decode fits what you are asking for, I enjoyed it and our compatibility is really high.

I'm guessing you're looking for something like Shinji and Asuka from NGE?

Maybe Berserk

Unfortunately, everything worth watching I thought of, you have already seen. This one doesn't quite fit the bill, but it is a good anime, so you may wanna check it out. Black Lagoon. Revy is the bad ass heroine who excels in gunfights, and Rock is the quiet, calculating hero who puts her abilities to use. They get in all sorts of fights with each other, but you get the feel that they like each other. Another similar anime would be Kara no Kyoukai.

Shit that fits the bill, but I hate recommending them:
Freezing
Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Girls
IS: Infinite Stratos
Witchblade
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

Thanks, that looks really good. I'll check first ep for the ecchi but from the looks of it I might like it.

That looks really great, thank you. Definitely checking it out.

From character bio I had a feeling Revy wasn't really calm and by the description I was going for a female character that doesn't "need" anyone to be at her best. Freezing and Samurai Girls are ecchi, while Witchblade looks ecchi and IS is harem.

Yeah, something similar to them in both requests. BTW, for which request is Berserk?

Thanks for so fast replies, I was afraid I would get none.

Fits more into number 2. She isn't stronger than Guts by any means, but she is a close second. I would recommend the manga, because... well, it is a hell of a lot longer than the anime, but up to the point which was adapted is pretty much #2.

"Anime with calm and calculating female character"

Black Lagoon, all the famale characters in that show are calm and understandable.
The forums are dark, and full of ego.

Except the main one haha.

EDIT: Not sure how I could forget ghost in the shell: stand alone complex. That's definitely what you are asking for as well.

Thanks, I've been looking for something that fits #2 for sometime, I'll check it.

From top to bottom: both harem and ecchi, on my on hold list and on my watching list. You know, I didn't put my list there to fill space. It's a solid wall of text even without it.

That's great, thanks. Can you tell me how ecchi it is? A friend of mine stopped watching it midway because of it but she's kinda touchy about ecchi.

You're looking for Seirei no Moribito: a great, strong female mc.

Starship Operators is another title with a strong female lead, that usually has to make difficult choices for her entire crew.

Even Trinity Blood has such characters, like her and her.

GITS isn't ecchi at all, the major just wears some really out of place clothing at times and the director is always questioning her and telling her how uncomfortable he is about it (I really don't care for it either, I honestly can't stand ecchi and fanservice). I haven't seen the movies, but maybe your friend is referring to those?

EDIT: Actually in retrospect, it does come off as fanservice now that I think about it, so you may want to ignore it. I think I was just blocking it out when I was watching since it was a good show.

I'm not sure, I didn't bother with it because she looked really dissatisfied by it but that was long time ago before I found out she hated ecchi in general. And by then I forgot about it. But I'll give it a try.

The 1st one looks really good, the 2nd has discouraging reviews and 3rd looks good. Thanks for the recs.

Kokoro connect has a female lead character that's very serious and usually in control of her emotions. She's also very blunt, and takes the straight line to solve a problem rather then curving around it.

She softens up latter in the series, and it ends well.

-Mnemosyne (Rin is really strong female main character, also this anime features plenty of violence just like Claymore)
-Air master (i've watched it, but to be honest didn't like it. features strong main female character which does a lot of street fighting, but she has awfully annoying friends)
-Madlax (she is strong mercenary)

Bantorra library - one of the best untipical female character Hamyutsu Meseta - she is strong, leader of an organisation, little bit evil - better said between good and evil, sexy... i would say she is one of the main characters. And yes everibody is scared of her.

Your friend's problem isn't ecchi. Your friends problem is when characters show too much skin for short periods of time. GITS is very far from ecchi. Also, I'm going to second Black Lagoon. While it's true Revy is a badass motherfucker, she isn't calm. There is, however, a character who is both calm and collected. Balalaika.

If you want to know just how slick she can be, watch the start of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3KlH3g1KI0 (There aren't any spoilers) - Pretty cool guy called gigguk did a nice video series listing his top 20 cool anime characters with Balalaika coming in at #3. You can see some examples of her awesomeness in that video + the reasons why he chose her. Btw, English Dub is the best for Black Lagoon.

Strong female MC's are kinda rare in anime admittedly (strong female leads don't sell very well when a large portion of your fanbase consists of sweaty fat neckbeards or borderline malnourished pale basement dwellers... No offence, I count as the latter).

The ones I do know of are Ghost in the Shell (almost certain that's already been mentioned), and Spice and Wolf.

Also if you wouldn't mind more of a kids show Cybersix would also fit the bill (though like I said, it's more of a kids show and despite the fact that it is indeed an anime by definition, it has far more in common with western cartoons)
